2010 NHL Trade Deadline Thread - March 3rd, 3:00 PM ET

Yes. I am not taking away from Holland on that one. However, when was the last time he took a 2nd round pick and traded it for a goalie who turned into a superstar? I give Sutter credit for things like that. -

You don't think so? I can't believe that he's got Regehr locked up for such a small cap hit. I guess it's a debateable one, in terms of where to put him, but I think he makes bold moves to make his team better. -

I don't know that he'd be 16th, but I'll try to name 10 for you. Brian Burke, Mike Gillis, George McPhee, Ray Shero, Brian Murray (recently), Darcy Regier (on a limited budget, that team is always competitive), Dave Poile (same as Regier), Lou Lamorello, Sutter (Flames GM). Ah well, there are 9 that I feel are better for different reasons. I'd rank him #10. -

I just made a valid point about how Holland is letting them slip this year. That's not nitpicking. He's not a bad GM. He's middle-of-the-pack. -

Caputi was their top prospect? What about Tangradi or Despres? -

Not quite. Slegr was 2002. The Fischer call-up was 2001, if I remember correctly. You're right about the Slegr pickup in 2002, but really-- did they need much that year? Is there any comparison between that year and this one? That year, they were destined for the President's trophy....and Holland still went out and got a depth defenseman. (Who only played 1 playoff game when Fish was suspended). This year? Struggling to make the playoffs and standing pat. Nice. -

Maybe I'm not saying this correctly-- Walker would be a great depth player. He may not play every game, but it pays to have guys like him to plug in--in the case of injuries. -

Maltby. On the forward lines, that is. Ponikarovsky was not a salary dump, he had some value. -

Not likely. They want to re-sign Kubina and Afinogenov, plus we don't have cap space because we can't take on salary. ****I just saved you guys the time by throwing out the canned responses.**** Here's hoping. -

Either of those guys would've been great for our 3rd line. Ah well. We got injured players back. Anyone remember when we called up Jiri Fischer as our deadline move? Good ole' Kenny. -

Or you get Scott Walker, who (if you are watching TSN) was considered a great move. Hell, I'd take Schneider back for a conditional pick. Either of those would've improved the team. -

In your previous post, were you implying that Ponikarovsky or Skoula was the salary dump? Anyway, Walker is the kind of guy we need. I would love Afinogenov, but they provide different things-- Walker grit, jam, and depth-- Afinogenov speed and depth. But yeah, I'd jump on Walker for a 7th for this team. -

Ummm....guys like Scott Walker go for 7th rounders, apparently. Would you say no to that? -

Yes, they want to keep them. How did that work out with Kovalchuk, Hossa, et all? Just wondering. Because I can't remember what happened with those guys. Atlanta must've resigned them, because they wanted to. -

Yep. It's amazing that every single late round pick turns into a gem. In the history of the Wings, every player taken in Round 7 has been awesome, so we should never take a chance and deal those picks. -

So, Alexei Ponikarovsky goes for a prospect and a 5th--but a deal that I explain involves Meech and Lebda to clear salary (much like Skoula going to Toronto) including a 2nd Rounder-- laughable? Silly, silly stuff. -

Even salary for salary, Afinogenov=$800,000; Lebda $650,000--you get a deal like Pittsburgh made: To ATL: Lebda, Meech, 2nd Round Pick, Prospect To DET: Afinogenov, 6th Round Pick We did just get Lilja back. Our depth d-man is Tollefsen. You sill have Lidstrom, Rafalski, Kronwall, Stuart, Ericsson, Lilja as your regulars and use Tollefsen if necessary. I can do it. Can Holland? -

This is the 2nd post where I am acknowledging that I missed that word in the first go round. You can go back to looking for times to jump in. -

I disagree with your assessment of what is passion vs. what is entitlement. If I disagree with you, I'm acting like a brat? Nah. I just don't buy into the party line that this team is good to go. -

Good point, I missed the part about re-appearing. Ah well. I don't think it's unrealistic to want him to add a guy like Scott Walker or Max Afinogenov, especially considering we have (I believe) all of our picks in the next two drafts. -

Taking a break from taking shots at each other (which is fun, btw); I think that Atlanta would take on a 2nd Rounder + a prospect for a soon-to-be UFA. 2nd and the rights to Johan Ryno, perhaps? -

Yes, my advocating adding a depth forward would certainly shake the land. I suppose reading comprehension could be an issue with you-- were you educated in SC, or do you just live there? -

Or two years before you joined. I am not entitled to be passionate about my team?
