I believe Yzerman was the only redwing to be retired with a "C" on his jersey. He is "The Captain" after all...

CBC in Canada is to the Leafs, and other CDN teams what FSN Detroit is to the Wings. I may be mistaken, but does FSN DETROIT play any hockey games (outside p/o's) that do not include the wings? It's the same thing. Hence it's called Hockey night in Canada (indicating that one of the teams are from Canada (almost always the first game is the leafs, in the Toronto area, and the second is from out west). Also, Canadian TV has an issue called Canadian content. A certain percentage of all Canadian broadcasting must include Canadian content (around 40-50% I believe). HNIC allows the CBC to make up a great portion of this content. The CBC will play the wings only when they play a CDN team. Also, Hockey Night In Canada is only on Saturday (sometimes a Sunday afternoon). When you only play 2 games a week, they can't show many wings games. Trust me, I'd love them to, so I don't have to pay for centre Ice. I think TSN will have more, though.

Um, actually, I'm pretty sure Heaton was just kidding... Unless... NorrisNick, have you been into the sauce again?

Well, I would love it if Ozzie styed here for another 5 years, or however long he wanted in order o finish his career. He's a good solid, dependable goalie, whether in the starting or the backup role. I think Holland knows this, and will do his best to keep him around. Shouldn't be too hard, as Ozzie seems willing to take a little less $ in order to remain on the team. GO OZZIE!!!!

Ah, thanks, it was Woolley I was thinking of, not Whitney.....that makes a little more sense now.
-
My bad , then, but why do I have 15 stuck in my head? nm
-
Nah, I was thinking more along the lines of Ray Whitney. As an aside I never knew Homer wore 15 Why the number change?
-
Yeah, I kinda like the 51 too. I've kinda started getting a negative vibe about anyone on the team in number 15. It sorta has bad mojo. Keep 51, I say.

I'm not gonna get tricked into this thread again.......crap!
-
I wouldn't worry about him. He will play 1 or 2 games, then be sent down to the farm team.....hopefully for you.....

Nashville decision will say a lot about Bettman's legacy
CdnWingsFanEh replied to Salviaman's topic in General
Obviously I can't speak for everyone, but... If we're specifically talking about hockey, I don't think that Canadians are quite so much biased against Americans as much as they are starved for NHL level hockey in what we believe is "our" sport. Part of the problem is that we look at the fact that there are 6 Canadian teams in the NHL, and 24 American ones. We see a team with a lot of problems, and feel that it only makes sense to bring a team to a market that will be a sure fire success. It also has a bit to do with the fact that the league seems to be so determined NOT to allow Canada to have another team that upsets everyone. My 2 cents. For the record, I don't think Winnipeg or Quebec deserve another team. Ottawa is doing well now, regardless of how they were doing, and Hamilton absolutely does deserve a team. They have the fan support, and corporate support to do well. Much better, imho than many of these other cities that can't support their team. -
Was there ever actual confirmation Calder's wrist was broken, or is that still speculation? Just curious.

Awesome

No, I know he was an RFA, but you don't think some of the UFA's are going to think why would I bother signing with you to have my butt traded to another team that I didn't sign up for originally?
-
I think if Hudler were to be traded before the season, Holland would have a ***** of a time signing any future UFA's. It's very much frowned upon.
-
I'm gonna miss Matty, but only until I see Brian on the ice, I think....
-
The problem is the Predators haven't had the support they've needed. There shouldn't be a team in Nashville anymore, regardless who buys it. Why should the city be supporting the team. It should be the fans, and corporations, and therein lies the problem, is the lack of bothe corporate (for the most part) and fan support. They should be moved either way imho. I just want them to be moved to Hamilton, if/when they do go.

obligatory post. Hi all.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think it has to do with HOW that number is achieved for the purposes of breaking the lease. I think it was that if you didn't include the post season, it went down below 14000, and this was the basis for how Craig and co. thought they could get out of the lease. And it had something to do with strictly season tickets, as well, not average attendence. I think Legionnaire11 could give a better explanation for sure. I'm just trying to remember what I've heard, most of which is speculation, and poorly at that, I guess.

I live in Stoney Creek (a suburb of Hamilton) and have to say I agree with pretty much this entire statement. It's what i've been trying to say, but couldn't figure out how to say it. I think, ultimately, you'd have people dropping season tickets for the Blue Jays to switch to a Hamilton team before you would ever lose support (season ticket holders) for the Leafs. Besides, if the Leafs did lose any ticketholders to Hamilton, they have a waiting list probably as long as the wings for people to buy.

I may be reading people wrong, but there's only 1 person who said they don't want Calder back (other than management). Everyone else suggested they wouldn't mind him for a good price, including myself. I have no problem with him. When he started, he played well. His ice time dried up for whatever the reason may be. Lang.....not really any surprise. I'm wishy washy on him. I guess the money would be better spent on someone who will give more effort consistently.

post... Maybe if we heard that more we would have been in the finals...?
