For those who might be interested, Probert was working on a book just before passing away. His family has decided to go ahead and publish the book. Linky: http://www.thestar.com/sports/hockey/article/847660--memoir-probert-worked-on-before-his-sudden-death-due-this-fall

That's kind of the impression I get, that it was still in process. I would think they would publish as much as they could using whatever notes he may have made in advance, I don't really know otherwise. Either way, I'll be picking that one up. Edit: sp

This. I enjoy the summer, and the hot weather. That's it.

Yeah, the reffing in the series sucked. That pretty much sums it up. The refs need to have some kind of discipline for bad officiating. Seriously, it was rediculous. Whatever.

Ray Farraro Interview Suggests Lidstrom will return

Can we sign him to a long term contract right now at league minimum for say 25 years??? -
This. The wings are what 2 and 9 for afternoon games? We suck in the afternoon. A later game will benefit the wings. They can rest more before the game. I'd rather they played great and I missed some of the game than played like crap, but I got to see them play like crap...

Wow awesome game! USA played amazing. I hope Rafalski comes back and plays like that for the Wings. Maybe this will have ignited a fire in him.

2010 Winter Olympics - Canada vs United States (Group A)
CdnWingsFanEh replied to redwings8831's topic in General
Good game, USA! Who is this RAFALSKI guy on defense? He was playing pretty good tonight! Wish the Wings would sign him to a contract! Be interesting to see if Brodeur or Luongo starts Canada's next game. .. Hopefully this is our only loss... -
Ward and Howard both have W's in their names. Ward, Hextall, and Howard have a's. Ward, Roy, Dryden and Howard have r's, Roy an Howard have o's...

Only if all the camera angles have been submitted. Given that this is Detroit, however, I would not expect things to go in our favour...

http://freep.com/article/20100129/SPORTS05...to-Grand-Rapids Holland says they are trying to make it happen? He must have just found out... Didn't he just say he didn't know anything about this when Mickey mentioned it on tv?

I must have a different nhl bible version than you. Mine is the King Bettman version. It desperately needs to be updated. Only one verse was changed: "as we forgive those teams that turn our goalies into sieves" actually reads: "as we forgive refs who disallow our goals" Peace be with you.

If memory serves me correctly, Holland has already said Zetterberg will be Captain (back when they were naming Lidstrom Captain). Things may change by that point, who knows, but he has already said that.

I never really had a problem with ties, either. They existed for a reason. If 2 teams played for a tie, that meant that neither team was the better team that night. I don't see a reason that there HAS to be a winner in each game. That being said, I like your suggestion, but would tweak it to make it a 5 point game. If both teams show up to the rink on time, then each team gets 1 point just for making their appearance. The rest of the points can be divvied up as above... I guess we can issue points for getting skates tied up properly, as well. Hey, how about if one team gets no penalties all game, they get an extra point too!!!

I like the way he says "or even Southern Ontario" like it isn't the all around best option there is. I'm sorry, but while Winnipeg or Quebec might be good for a team again, Southern Ontario is by far the best option the league has in order to bring in steady cash.

Do you mean the promotion of the NHL? You seem to be using the terms USA and NHL interchangeably. They are not. The NHL is an international league between Canada and the USA. Being in Canada, I rarely see any promotion by the USA, so I don't see what you are talking about. I see lots of promotion by the NHL, an international company. If the NHL were to nosedive in Canada, Hockey would still thrive and flourish as it always has. New leagues would form, as they always have. There would be no shortage of talent in Canada. Would Canada bother promoting their sport in the USA at this point? Not likely, it doesn't make a lot of sense. But it would continue. As for Russia, and Sweden, I don't think it would affect them greatly at all. I don't know, though, as I don't know how much promotion either the NHL or the USA do in those countries...

This whole thing makes no sense, because there is no quantifiable definition of the #1 country. By what standards are you meaning #1? If you simply mean who would have a bigger impact on the NHL itself, if it pulled all their teams, then obviously the USA would, as they have 24 of the 30 teams. However, to put it in perspective, if Canada pulled all its players from the NHL, it would have just as big an impact, as it would take probably half the players away, and leave watered down talent. If you are arguing that hockey is more important to the USA as a country, however, you are seriously misguided. Think of it this way. Your thought is that if the USA pulled all the American teams out of the NHL, that the league would be in ruins. You are correct about this. What you need to realize, however, is that the most likely result of this would be that those remaining 6 teams in the NHL would likely start up an entirely new league, and add many more teams in Canada to it, and simply start up again, in Canada. It is unlikely there would be difficulty getting a massive following. Your thread really makes no sense, as the answer you give to your question, does not answer your question properly. Back to the drawing board please.

I think if Holland could have kept Conklin he would have. Conklin is an improvement over Howard. Holland knew that, but his hands were tied. Not only did the wings lose forwards that they had to replace, but they lost a huge number of goals with those forwards. They kind of got screwed with the Hudler issue. It would have been irresponsible to have gone after another Eaves type player making $500k but at the same time losing a larger number of goals. He had to make up some of those points somehow. He must have felt that the Wings scoring woes would be a bigger problem than poor backup goaltending. Who knew? In retrospect what could they have done. Howard was out of options, as well in the AHL. He basically got the shot by default. I don't think this was Holland's first choice of how things would play out. Yes, goaltending is a big issue right now. But the question is what's a bigger issue goaltending or the team plagued by injuries? Difficult call. Obviously, as there is such a big debate on it... Edit (sp)
