By the numbers Chelios deserves it... "Chelios, 47, is being honored as much for his durability and high level of play over 25 seasons as for his return from injury. His teams have made the playoffs in 24 of his 25 seasons. He is the oldest player in the NHL. Chelios won three Stanley Cups, with Montreal in 1986 and with Detroit in 2002 and 2008. He played in 11 NHL All-Star Games and won the Norris Trophy in 1989, 1993 and 1996. He was twice runner-up for the Norris. That means he was the NHL's best or second-best defenseman in 20 percent of his seasons. Chelios has 185 goals and 763 assists in 1,644 NHL games. He is plus-352 in his career and had only three negative seasons. Afraid of no one, he has logged 2,891 penalty minutes. He has scored 69 power-play goals, 13 short-handed goals and 31 game-winners. Chelios has been a superior Stanley Cup Playoffs performer with 31 goals and 113 assists in 260 games. Chelios ranks fourth all-time in games played and is the leader among defensemen, Americans and active players. He is the only player in NHL history to play more than 400 games with three different teams, Montreal, Chicago and Detroit. He set the NHL record by playing in his 880th victory on Jan. 6 and extended that mark to 894 wins."

It was obviously meant as a joke, and regardless I wouldn't count on Parros doing much in this series other than playing with his mustache.

Last article I saw said that Draper was seeking final doctor's approval today to play tomorrow. I agree that Kopecky was invisible in round 1, and the 4th line is definitely our weakest link.

It really is a shame for both him and the team, he had a solid season
-
Being a Wings' fan in MD, surrounded by Capitals and Penguins fans for years, I've taken a lot of flack. 1998 was a particularly rough year

Ilitch is cheap when it comes to promotions?
-
He deserves the win here...best all around player in the league.
-
Is it required as a member of this board to worship the Caps and their shameless showboat of a leader? I've despised the Capitals for 15+ years, that isn't going to change just because they have a fresh new bandwagon rolling into town.
-
Tough call, it's times like these I wish both teams could just cancel eachother out and be eliminated...don't want to cheer for either.
-
Opie take that crossed out post over to the stickied thread, I think there's a few Ducks fan who could use a lesson on our defensive capabilities
-
Laughable analysis really, I mean is this meant as a joke? I don't feel like I even really need to address this as a serious post. Not to mention the inherent xenophobic "Not one of them is a Euro" comment.

Ew no please...trust me, I live in the area, and they're still incredibly bitter about 98.

Downey isn't half the hockey player Brashear is? Come on now, you're giving old Donald a lot of credit here. He put up...wait for it...4 Points this season! I think Downey could manage that and still be just as useful of an "enforcer" as Brashear, minus the nonsensical goonery. Either way, Brashear got the suspension he deserved.

That was real ugly.
-
Yay the caps are still in it...that's just...swell
-
I don't think it was words, I think it was the pouring of beers over the bench that set him off.
-
It's exciting to have a player who you always have to keep your eye on because you know he's going to finish his checks (not as a knock to anyone else, just that Helm is flying out there)
-
Caps fans trying to take over as scummiest fans in the league now that the Flyers have been eliminated?
-
There's always going to be a few people who have to jump in and defend a guy as universally despised by the Red Wings' universe as Pierre Mcguire Although it's entirely possible hell has frozen over, this is the first year I can remember Mcguire speaking favorably about the Wings' and their chances.

Tortorella is a moron, Avery should be in every night. I really don't think it's a coincidence the Rangers improved after Avery came back to NY.

Exactly, the Columbus announcers seemed reluctant to count the dots on the screen after they circled all 6 BJs players on the ice at once...1, 2, 3, 4, 5...oh...6...yea oops. They can only blame themselves for that one.
-
I'd settle for Torres getting destroyed too

Hopefully Stuart can help Commodore out in a similar fashion tonight.

I dunno, I was at the Wings-Caps a few months back in DC with my girlfriend and another guy (both attending their first ever hockey game, not in Wings' garb) and I made it about 1/2 block in my Shanahan jersey before the first random passing car told me to "Take off that ****** jersey and go back to Detroit". I've been going to the games down there since about '95 (including the 98 finals) and haven't had much of a warm welcome
