Pretty much sums it up, I don't think Lilja was an unjustified whipping boy at times, he has made some incredibly bad plays in the past. Solid play so far this season though, can't fault him at all compared to the rest of the defense.

I won't be sad if losing Filppula contributes to keeping Franzen and or Hudler/Hossa as they play the numbers game. Filppula just gets knocked around way too much, he's like a ragdoll.

That's cool though, you guys just keep on buying those jerseys.

Honestly I dont know what the f*** is going on with this team. Lets send down the guy who had the only energy on the ice last night, but make sure Tomas "I'm the most useless player on the Red Wings roster since Boyd Devereux" Kopecky keeps his permanent roster spot? You know what's even sadder? Devereux was better than Kopecky. Go ahead and try to deny it.

QFT, honestly this is really bothering me. Downey does what Kopecky is supposed to be doing every game and doesn't. It's not like Kopecky is putting up the points, so why bother with him?

No way can Kopecky be playing over Downey if he's going to come out like that every night, non-stop hustle from him everytime he hit the ice.

Wow...12 years, that seems excessive at first glance. Zetterberg going to play until he's 40? Lets hope his back holds up...I guess thats the only way to work out the money situation though.

I'll be at the game with a few other local Wings' fans...hopefully the Caps fans can contain their "Go back to Detroit fags" mentality for a few hours at an early Saturday game.

He played a number of games this season on the first line with Hossa and Datsyuk and generated 0 points during that time. He was eventually replaced by Cleary who I believe scored in the first game he was put in Kopecky's place. Kopecky has no business taking a spot away from Helm (for speed) or Downey (for fighting), both of whom would be infinitely more useful just playing the roles that they excel at.

That's a tough call, but honestly I'd go for Hossa/Franzen. I really don't like the idea of losing Franzen as a side effect of all this, he's a beast and only seems to be getting better. -

Unfortunately this is the response most people SHOULD have...$7.5 million is fair, if he doesn't want it then he can go play in Columbus or LA. That's certainly worked out well for players who've left the Wings in the past -
There's really no way you can justify how awful Kopecky is. He doesn't have any area of specialty, he's the most generic and useless 4th line player we could have gotten. Although I'll give you this one, he's finally reached the 20 point plateau! unfortunately it took him 146 games to do it. Pretty ridiculous for someone that isn't an enforcer.

This is what bothers me the most, Kopecky is leading the team in "hits"...but if you actually look at these "hits" they're not exactly instilling fear in our opponents.

Other than the faceoff aspect of Draper's game, I honestly don't see how Abdelkader-Helm-Downey could be worse than our current 4th line, even with the lack of experience. Obviously there are cap issues, but it's ok to dream

As soon as Datsyuk scored the go-ahead goal, it was nothing but laziness for the rest of the 3rd and OT.

Shanahan was a great player for this team and that's not going to change. It suprises me the number of people who will come in here and hate on him considering there's no one on the current roster that contributes the same skill set he had. A forward that could consistently put up 50+ points per season while hitting and fighting? Who needs that when we've got Samuelsson to defend us right? Bitter doesn't begin to describe some of the posters around here.
