Weird start to the playoffs for Tavares... you think he is playing bad or below his normal standard, but he is still producing at a point-per-game pace. The other guys have stepped up for London (Kadri, Varone, McRae, Carlson).

"Bring it back"

^hahah the PINK jersey! The Knights hosted a Support for Breast Cancer Night, and the jerseys were auctioned off. 10 grand for a pink Tavares Jersey... gotta love it. So heres the stat line since JT moved to London... GP 24 G 32 A18 P 50

He got a big win against London last night. All signs point to a Mike Murphy (Belleville) - McCollum (Brampton) showdown in the OHL East Final. Between the World Juniors and the upcoming OHL playoffs, he will have had lots of big game experience this season. Should end up in GR next year, but you never know with the way the Wings handle their goaltending situation.

Wish I could see more of Duchene, he has been great in Brampton playing with Hodgson and Grachev. Canada will be sick again next year at the Juniors with him, Taylor Hall and Nazem Kadri. TSN has Kadri at 8 which can be justified, but I can see him sliding to the 15 range. There is a lot of holes in his game, he needs to get alot bigger and tougher if he is going to succeed at the NHL level. He is definately a top 10 talent, just lacks in other areas. I have to believe that Ryan Ellis would not be at 13 if he was 6ft1 instead of a generous 5ft10. Some team that is picking between 6 and 10 is going to get nervous when they see Ellis on the board and ****** him before someone else can. He is not the best in 5on5 situations, but not terrible by any means. This guy is a beast on the powerplay, he is very calm and makes good decisions. Nice showing from the team Ontario U-17 team that won gold, with Duchene, Ellis, and Holland listed at 17. Taylor Hall was also on that team, who is going to be #1 Overall next year.

Ive been able to watch JT alot since he was traded to London. I would take him with the first pick, IMO you can't pass up on a scorer like this. Weaknesses : You won't get a 2 way game like Crosby gives you. Saves up energy for the offensive end, might struggle with the speed of the NHL game at first. Does not have breakaway speed like Ovechkin. Strengths : Few are better from 25ft in (roughly the top of the circle to the goal line). Has the ability to score in tight, and can find the open man when you think that there is no option. Can score lots of goals without being a puck hog. Goal totals have dropped off since 2006 when he raked 72, but the Apples have increased, which shows he likes to create. The top 2 are similar to last year, where Stamkos is the elite scorer and Doughty is the shutdown D with some playmaking ability. Doughty could have easily gone #1, and Hedman could also go #1 with no complaints. Either way you are getting someone that helps your club immediately, but in this case I take JT.

I was wondering about this. I havent seen much of Green, Is he really THAT bad in his own end, or is he just average? Clearly his +/- is inflated because of his point totals. I like the thought of having this guy around at next year's olympics for Canada, but if he is not responsible in his own end than you might as well not invite him to camp. My buddy and I were at the Knights game Friday watching John Carlson play, this guy is also very offensive minded (drafted 15-25ish in the 08 draft) once he arrives in Washington they will have lots of firepower on the back end.

hahah solid thread.. some of these names are awesome. Im a big fan of Wings backups, and Marc Lamothe is one I completely forgot about. Opened up a program from the 97 Cup year and saw a pic of Maxim Kuznetsov under the "in the system" section Jesse Wallin was on the roster when I used to play NHL 2003, always remember Don Taylor pronouncing it Wall-een
-
update : JT has 9 goals in 6 games for the Knights... he now leads the OHL

hahah Elaine, solid writer.

I was looking for a song last week thats played at alot of arenas, rarely hear it at the Joe though. It was Brain Stew by Green Day. "I believe in a thing called love" is played alot at JLA, its by The Darkness "its all been done" by Barenaked Ladies gets played alot (the one where the crowd all goes "wooo-ooo-ooh" "dont stop believing" buy Journey is another one where they stop the music... the crowd recites the "born and raised in south detroit" part
-
that was a solid liney... anytime a tender gets put on his ass like that, it will usually start a nice line brawl
-
I know that the guy at the Joe does play some top40 sometimes, but its better than hearing it ALL the time like at some arenas. I would rather hear him keep playing the classics than hear the usual billboard stuff all the time. Does he even cue the "Rudy" speech anymore? I remember it used to get the crowd pumped when the Wings were down a goal late in the 3rd, but I havent been to a game in a while with that situation, so Im not to sure if he still plays it. (nobody, and i mean nobody, comes into our house, and pushes us around)
-
The guy that does the music for Wings games is a genius... I remember him playing some German song that kept repeating Du Lang every time Robert Lang would score. Can anyone ring off some of the rock songs that are commonly played at the Joe? Theres one that I would like to find, but have no idea what it's called. He plays "believe in a thing called love" by The Darkness alot, but thats not the one im looking for.

JT had 2 goals and an assist today in his debut
-
Brampton could very well steal an OHL title from one of those teams from the West, McCollum has had a great year until his performance at the WJC
-
I went tonight, they presented him with a plaque and did the whole ceremony thing and watched a quick video with highlights from the WJC. Everyone gave him a standing ovation when they announced his name, it was kind of funny to see, kinda felt like 9000 people all saying "bring us another memorial cup PLEASE" Got tickets for Sunday as well, the building should be pretty pumped up to see 61 in the lineup.
-
Also a friend of a season ticket holder, hahah been to alot of big games over the years including game 1 of the Mem Cup vs Rimouski / Crosby. Pretty sweet to see future NHLers come through that place, ive seen Jeff Carter with the Soo, Mike Richards with Kitchener, plenty of NHLers. I also got pretty lucky this year, and got asked to play in a league that has games at the JLC. Pretty fun playing in that building, even though there is 9000 empty seats! So Mark Hunter is really going for it this year, he went out and got a buddy of mine Leigh Salters from Guelph, I played highschool hockey with him. He can fight just about anyone in the league (including that beast Greenhop from Windsor) and can also fill the net at times. Anything but a Windsor/London West finals this year will be a huge upset. In the East, Brampton just got very good in adding the Wings 1st rounder, goalie Thomas McCollum. Brampton has 3 very good forwards in Cody Hodgson (16pts at the WJC) and Matt Duchene, who won gold at the world under 17 last year with Ryan Ellis. They also have Grevkov from Russia that can fill the net. As you can see im pretty excited for the rest of the OHL season, and playoffs should be intense.
-
good luck getting tickets, the JLC sells out pretty much every game, let alone after a blockbuster deal. This will be 3 first overall picks in the last 6 years for the Knights, assuming Tavares goes #1. (Rick Nash, Pat Kane, and JT)
-
Crazy last couple of days in the OHL... the trade deadline is Friday at noon. The favourites still have to be Windsor, they loaded up with goalie Josh Unice (played in mem cup last year with Kitchener) and also got Shutron and Timmins, for young goalie Brandon Maxwell and Jacob Lalonde. London looks to have landed Michael Del Zotto along with Tavares, which is huge for them, as they have a lack of depth on defense. This rivalry just got intense once again, can't wait for the playoffs. edit : the TSN story has not been confirmed, probably just waiting for the leagues approval. Sportsnet broke a story the other day saying the deal for Tavares was all but done, only to retract it in an article today. www.thenoof.com has good coverage of all of this

NFmac25... they definately use a different font for the preseason jerseys, couldnt tell you what its called though. Scotzman... do you want the actual width and height of the letters and numbers? I have an authentic that I can measure if you want.
-
Cant help you with the font titles... heres the script that I found a while back. the Wings have had the right idea for a long time, they use the "vertical arch" style of lettering. Some MLB teams are still using that radial arch style, and it probably gives equipment managers fits when they have to apply 10+ letter names to the back of small jerseys (see: Saltamaccia)

wait... what? I was under the impression that the Joe had some of the WORST conditions in the entire league. There was an article in Sports Illustrated a few years back about the quality of ice around the league, and Detroit was near the bottom in every category. I remember reading that teams are suposed to fill out reports after each game regarding different things like quality of ice and stuff like that. Detroit had the least reports filed, and the ones that were submitted were usually negative. This was a few years ago, so things could have changed, but I just remember hearing the Joe had terrible ice compared to other cities. As for a retractable roof, I like the idea but its just not practical. I am all for renovating the Joe, but when you look at it from a contractors point of view, its a nightmare. It wouldnt be just the visual upgrades, it would have to include internal things like plumbing and stuff like that, which is all 30 years old now, and probably almost impossible to replace. That being said, Im still not a fan of most new arenas, as they lack character and the intimidating feel that old buildings have. A designer that could bring that "retro" feel to a new building would be ideal.
