I would agree that it was easier to get good euro talent in years past. BUT, the true measure of the picks you make are the ones that blossom into good players. Kenny and his staff have proved to be of the knowledge and judgement to make good decisions. But I do question the Wings at times in regard to those they have let go, players that have had success on other teams, and there are many. You can look at all sports, and the draft is a gamble. Some do well, and some dont. Wings are 27, well, it may as well be 227, as the person they pick WILL NOT have a Wings jersey for many years. Usually the top few of the draft get to play in the big show.

Wings seem to do well finding "unseen" talent in the late rounds of the draft. I expect Kenny to trade off that 1st round in some sort of deal.

I also agree that the NHL is too big. Seems there are not enough tallented players to go around. I can't speculate on what those teams that should be on the cutting block are though, but I would choose by their fan base.

I am sure it pays the same as Little Ceasers, and I doubt they are in the $10 range yet.

Some small players do well in the NHL. Sullivan and Theo Flury are a couple of examples. Sullivan has blazing speed and Flury had grit/fire. Both of these players are not afraid to go to the net. Hudler is a small and slow player that has skills. He knows where to be, and can pass the puck. IMO, I doubt if Yuri will ever be an impact player. He looks timid out there in the sea of giants. And his lack of grit and speed will keep him on the fringe of being a regular. Now, if he had the speed and skill of Samsonov, well, then that would be different.

Pronger is a lot like Chelios, you hate him when he is on the other team, and love it when he is on yours. I'd sure like to see him with a red/white jersey.

Some good points have been said here. I think if Dom retires, the Wings need to put a LOT of $$ into a goalie. NO team is successful without good goal tending. I like Ozzie, but he has always been an average net minder in the league, he never was top 5. If Dom stays, Hartnell at $3m would be a good addition, along with Bert, whom I feel has some good years left. (Remember that smile on his face when he flattened (who?) at the end of the season?

I would gripe if Federov came back here. He was never the same after he got that big contract here. I think his wallet got too heavy and his play suffered. just say NO - to Federov.

Not to mention those "stars" of the NFC, the fabulous Detroit Lions. I think they will do great. I predict 5 wins this year.

Personally, I never have been impressed by Hudler. Yea, he can diddle with the puck a little. But he is small and slow. Ofcourse, there have been small and slow skaters, but they had exceptional tallent. Sofar, I seen nothing that interests me in Hudler. And it is true, he tucks tail when he gets hit. IMO, he is not NHL material. Maybe if he grew 6" and 100 pounds.

I am going to watch the game tonight, and I think it will be the last game of the season for Da Wings. (I love being proven wrong)

I had to post this, as some players on the Wings REALLY stepped up their game during the playoffs. Case in point: Pavel - he is scoring Danny - he is "am giv'in 'her all she has captain" (in my best Scotty impersonation) I say WOW. Lilja - Most hits and SOLID defense. Lidstrom - Well, he is what he is. Homer - Just sheer determination. If he was not Swede, I'd say he has SISU.. (scandinavian thing the Swedes and finns know about) Hasek - Damned thief at times.. Flip - Where the hell did he come from? Franzenstein - Banging bodies, scoring, and making plays. There may be more? Personally, I am leaning to Lilja and Cleary at the moment. Edited to add Flip... Damned, I dunno.. Alll I know he was someone who was drafted high, and never panned out, atleast till now. But I dont think he is old enough to have played at that level 12 years ago?
