National writer: Don't bury Red Wings yet

I've said it a million times, but I love it when the Wings are underdogs!

    A season of questions

This is truely the biggest factor above everything else debated in this thread! The core of this team will make the playoffs. The rest is all about gas in the tank (grit, drive, determination, fatigue and injuries) Fortunatly, it is easier to stay healthy when every team isn't trying to knock you off the champion pedestal. I love it when the Wings are considered the underdog!

    Prospal signs with NYR

Considering how the NYR usually pay 1.5-2.5 times fair market value for a player, this carries an unbelievable price tag. I too would rather have Vinne than JW, however, I'm sure the Wings front office innitiated a discussion.

    Zherdev to KHL

From George James Malik August 12, 2009 07:59AM And the KHL's Ak Bars Kazan are attempting to sign lockout alumnus Dany Heatley despite his "operating contract" with the Ottawa Senators and the fact that the Ak Bars have already utilized their "franchise player" salary cap exemption on Aleksey Morozov. It's another attempt by the KHL to get into the headlines (mission accomplished) and add credibility to the league, but it's not going to happen. The KHL's teams get silly in the summertime, but their endless attempts to lure NHL players tend to result in a few Russian veterans heading home and one Jiri Hudler-style poaching. I don't like to ramble on about a non-Red Wings related topic, but the BS about the Ak Bars signing Nikolai Zherdev (confirmed to Sovetsky Sport) and Ilya Kovalchuk's recent, Sport-Express-prompted gushing about the KHL simply signals that the annual war games between the two leagues continue. Reading it every day (gotta keep up with the Hudler news, or the lack thereof) is making my eyes tired from rolling, frankly. I'm all for the NHL and KHL respecting each other's contracts and working out some sort of IIHF-brokered player transfer agreement (it seems that it'd have to go both ways these days), but the ideological war, fueled in part by tabloid-style rumors of NHL-player signings, fed to the Russian press, is unbelievably stupid.

    Zherdev to KHL

Actually, this is a huge blow to the NHL. We lose another high end player to a competing league b/c of $$$. Another blow for Bettman's CBA. Law of unintended consequences. Don't be fooled, this could be the begining of a small parade of players over, thus diluting the quality of the NHL. If the KHL begins to make more $$ because of the slow improvement in the quality of their product, they can and will outcompete with the NHL to entice more players over with larger contracts. BTW, don't confuse my post to intend that the majority of big name players will leave, but you'll see more Jagr's and 2nd line guys leave for larger paychecks. Thanks Bettman!

    Players retiring?

Lids was quoted at the Swedish olympic camp as saying that he plans to play at least 2-3 more years. When you have the best defenseman that has ever played the game, that is great news.

    Wings RBK Jersey from China

I purchased 6 from Jack and they were excellent. The only complaint is that the material for the home jersey's was a bit darker than what I would expect, otherwise, quality is great!!

    Oh wow look at that

Playing with a separated shoulder is incredible, playing with a RTC "injury" is like skating on bad ice, its not optimal, but certainly can be done. Hossa likely has tendonitis as compared to a full thickness tendon tear. If he had the latter, he would likely have surgery. The problem possibly limited him in his ability to wind up on the puck, otherwise it is symptomatic with overhead activities. Still doesn't expain why he played like he was in the AHL.

    Konstantinov Article

Everytime I think back to that event I get so angry at the driver. I remember I was doing my neurology rotation at Beaumont. I was in the ICU doing a consult and I saw Vladdy in one of the ICU bays. I felt like it was one of my family members. It is a crushing memory. I feel so sad for him and his family!!

Zherdev mentions Detroit as an option

    Zherdev=Yashin!
  18. http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2009/07/af...809_season.html THis is a sad read. Certainly, all of the blog is conjecture, but the thought of Holmstrom hanging up the skates is sad. He has been so much of a force in the success of the WIngs power play for so many years, that he has defined a new role in the NHL. I would argue that Holmstrom's crease presence has had as much of an influence on the NHL and it's rules as Gretsky's did when they changed the amount of men allowed off the ice. We can always debate if Holmstrom was 100% and our power play in the play offs was 30% blah blah blah. I certainly hope that he has 20-25 goals this year with 40-50 goals directly attributable to his ass in the goalies face.
  19. I agree with you, however Zetterberg and Datsyuk's story are still being written. Albeit unlikely at this point. It seems like yesterday that I was stressing out about possibly losing Dino to retirement and my buddy was talking about this guy who could park in the crease like no one else. Can't believe that was almost 15 years ago!!!

    Pens sign Jay McKee

I'll stick up for him Certainly not a troll, while I don't think he is the worst fan, just a very pessimistic one. The cup is always half empty with this one. He does help bring balance and a different perspective. Settle down. We've never been a team under this ownership to be the "ones without a prom date".
