If you were to shop Zadina as the primary asset in a trade you're getting a 3rd round pick tops. It's more likely to be a 4th. His draft slot does matter... he's a borderline NHL player taken 6OA. unless he's sheltered in the top 6 with someone to do the heavy lifting he's useless and barely better than useless when he's been given top 6 and PP minutes.

I'm saying that he is currently a worthless asset. If he has some sort or outlier season and gains any trade value... capitalize on it before he returns to the mean of mediocrity that defines his existence as a bust.

What you don't seem to realize is that Zadina is bad, he's not able to play the game at a top 6 level. What's Lalonde going to do that Blashill didn't? Under Blash there was more opportunity for a scrub like Zadina up the lineup. Now with the additions he's at best on the 3rd line with limited/no pp time.

Only if the player is a building block... an offensively challenged offensive player with worse than average defense is a transient bottom 6 player regardless of age.

Never mentioned age... if the FA is 32 who cares... I'm talking in season performance. He's a replacement level player no matter his age. Not even Holland would double down on that mistake.

No matter what happens this should be his last year... if he's terrible trade/waive him... if he has a "dead cat bounce" season trade him for the best offer likely a 3rd rounder. This guy is not a top 6 caliber player on any decent NHL team. (Period)

That's not a remotely reasonable comparison. Yzerman was an offensive dynamo who mid career changed his game to a more team oriented style. It's no coincidence this happend post knee injuries and in the back half of his career. Zadina on the other hand has been a replacement level player for 160ish games... to compare the two is beyond basic.

Cossa was the best choice then and now... a rough game or two doesn't end a career. If we get multiple failed seasons and lackluster play then he'll be a Zadina (bust). Cossa is every bit the prospect Walmart.com... I'm not writing off an elite goalie prospect over a few bad games in a somewhat down year. I was right on Zadina and I'll be right on Cossa. Bank on it.

We should take Tavares off the leafs hands... he'd be great for us and give the 11mil in cap relief. That contract also ends when we need to sign our own stars to big dollar deals.

Maybe it's just me but I simply don't care who we pick this draft. For me it was lottery or bust... we won't be able to get what we need at 8, I'd strongly consider trading the pick. NJ winning the lottery again is also a major kick in the nuts... could we trade them a package of Bert and 8OA for 2OA? Although the percentages weren't favorable to move up this lack of "luck" is a bit unbelievable and morale killing.

My question is where does Cossa play next season... GR? he's eligible to play another year in the WHL... he's dominating the playoff so far.

I wonder if Tanguay might be tapped for the HC job in GR if they part with Nelson. It's not conventional for an assistant to be on a staff before a HC.

I think we should definitely look hard at trading both Hronek and Bertuzzi... Bert will likely age/health out of our window and Hronek is a 4/5 when we're good. I'd sell on both, we'd get a good return and maybe get a shot at a top 3 pick next year with an immediate rebound the next year.
