News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

It's not uncommon for a player to pass through waivers and still have trade value as a value add or due to improved play, signs of promise, etc. Which is exactly my point... he's an asset we are completely mismanaging... he should be playing somewhere AHL or NHL in order to gauge what we have OR as a showcase to bolster his trade value. Sitting in Taxi-Squad purgatory isn't accomplishing that. or anything really. -

At 32, if we we're to resign him... 3 years max term. 1.25 max dollars at 3 years. I'd be more inclined to go 2 years at 1.5 per season. Falling in love with and guys like this is exactly what's hampered the rebuild here... fat contracts for easily replaceable players.... We are overflowing with recent examples.... Abby, Samuelsson, Ericsson, Cleary, etc, etc. let someone else over pay for underperformance. On an unrelated note... WTF are we doing with Svech. At this point are we actively trying to destroy any trade value he may have? Not to mention any chance he may have at an NHL career... The guy needs playing time somewhere, for the love of god he's got to bring more to the table than a scrub like Frans Nielsson. Let the guy prove it. -

With all due respect I think that it comes down to homer bias, not calling you out, but fans in general... we know the players and observe these players with the same sort of objectivity parents view their children with. They are ours, so we value them beyond their objective worth. I'd trade Glendenning in a heartbeat and I feel we can get another player with a similar profile in FA, heck we may be able to get the same player back in FA and add a late 2nd or early 3rd round pick in the process. -

Meh, we can get a new reclamation project in FA this summer... sell high on Ryan. Glendenning is a 4th liner... therefore I'm indifferent to his presence. -

I thought our poweplay is our enforcer? Comparable players can be had on the cheap in FA. I'd moved virtually everyone on this team st this point. -
@krsmith17 how's Zadina looking so far this season? Are the nets filled yet? Asking for a friend.

That's a classic NHL solution isn't it... acknowledge that your current system screwed a team multiple times (surprise, surprise Detroit) then go out of your way to "fix" that problem with a solution designed to F@#$ that same team and it's fan base in a new and exciting way. I love hockey and the Wings, but I'm barely hanging on... if this scenario were to play out, I think that would finish off my fandom.
-
How glad are we that the Wings didn't trade for him a couple of years ago like some folks here advocated for. https://www.tsn.ca/video/ferraro-erik-karlsson-s-contract-is-an-anchor-with-a-capital-a~2139396

I'm guessing this is to make him taxi squadable.

What are my bad takes? Zadina? Larkin being a 2nd line center asked to play a 1st roll on a bad team? I think you'll find a lot of people share those takes... A take you don't agree with isn't automatically bad
-
Realistically we should protect fewer players than we're allowed and invite Seattle to take a second pass at our unprotected players. We don't have many ED eligible players worth keeping.
-
@krsmith17 and @ChristopherReevesLegs have an on going feud... that's about it.
-
Calling people dummies because they see through your BS eh. Very endearing.
-
Awesome to see we're back up... ironic that the site went down just as we had something to finally talk about LOL.
-
2C, quantity over quality.
-
Now you're paraphrasing me... I've said multiple times we'll need another 2C of Larkin's ability to have any chance. #StopTheSteal
-
Nice side step, you might just be a politician. I'm like a broken record because people still need education on both counts. 31st ranking, that's what you want to hang your hat on, then by all means. To be a contender we need Larking playing at 2C, if not we're a pretender.
-
He's our #1C by default... as you correctly point out, we literally have nobody else for the roll. We have several replacement level centers a couple of 3Cs and Larkin. He's playing up in a very thin line up. I can't think of a single contender where, if given Larkin for free, he'd push their current 1C down the line up. That's because he's a 2C.
-
WRONG! He's a very good 2nd line center.

Why wait, when it's readily apparent right now!?!

So it does look like if we kept Rasmussen on the NHL roster and say Erne was sent to the Taxi Squad, Erne would need to clear BUT if we kept Erne and sent Rasmussen to the taxi squad he would not need to clear waivers. This seems like a no brainer to me, keep the waiver exempt kids up and play them... see what you've got we still have plenty of experienced players to help and shelter them. If in the process someone claims our ECHL level replacement players, consider it a massive win! Now, consider that Boston cut ties with Chara a guy who was still highly effective last year to play kids that need NHL reps; why are we even considering Erne and Nielsen for roster spots?
-
Is that accurate? or do they have to clear when moving on or off? Also if, in a normal year, a player was waiver exempt and could be assigned and recalled at will does that same player now have to be exposed on waivers to go to and from the taxi squad? I ask these questions because I have no idea BUT... I'd keep every waiver exempt kid on the roster if they could be sent to the taxi squad without risk and hope in the process the likes of Nielsen, Erne, etc being exposed, when called up, would lead to them being claimed.
