If we're going to move up, I think they should go for a big jump to the top 5... and the player I'd take is Brandon Gormley. He has been described as having a Lidstrom like skill set. Imagine a kid with all the tools learning from the master craftsman. Of course it won't happen... and if it did we'd likely have to give up the 1st and 2nd rounders we have plus a decent prospect like a Tatar or Kindl.
-
I agree but I don't think he was viewed by many as a regular top 4... probably a strong 5th occasional 4th. That said you're right he has had an impact on the team.
-
Does Stuart really count? He was a spare part in LA to my memory. HAHAHAHA, the Detroit Red Wings move UP in the draft... I think a trade for Ovechkin is more likely.
-
Ok here's a question... since the lock out what are the biggest trades Holland has made... I don't track this at all but nothing really sticks out to me. I don't recall many if any trades involving prominent players.
-
Yup Mill River area here. I think the maritime members of LGW should have a conference sometime... maybe get some scouting, draft plans, trades etc. done for Kenny and the boys. LOL
-
He may have played for Moncton in the Q, but make no mistake... he's an Islander, from Kings County PEI. Therefore, he's not a "Moncton boy" but I agree he'd be a great pick... Call me a homer, but I wanna see a Moncton an Island boy playing in the Red and White.
-
That's funny... he's not a bad player but... I see your point.
-
Am I the only one wishing we'd do something "splashy"... our steady as it goes mentality has been successful but I'd love to see a big trade involving the wings... you know a multi player or multi team deal... some spice.

For those folks blaming Howard and saying we should get a new goalie... lets stop for a moment and go back in time to about what 93... I seem to recall Osgood gaffing it up against the Sharks we were supposed to win walking away. My point is not to bash Osgood but to say we can't give up on Howard this early. However, I am very ready to give up on Ericsson, that guy needs to disappear and soon.

His career would read like that of Patrick Lalime, Chris Huet, or Dan Cloutier without having played on powerhouse Wings teams.
-
Don't lecture me about being a true fan. I'm a fan of this team and have been for nearly 20 years. I hope the team wins but I hope Osgood fails. Being a fan doesn't mean you blindly accept or love every player in an organization or decision an organization makes. Your definition of fandom exists in two places your mind and the hearts of Leaf fans. I was here... reading you prattling nits assure everyone how Osgood was the reason for the season. Truth is he had a run of games where he wasn't the overwhelming reason we won or lost, which is the best that overblown 2nd stringer has ever been able to in his career. Also good to see another Islander on here. Despite or differences in opinion.

I'm a Red Wing fan not an Osgood fan... he can get torched and we can still win no? I believe whatever hole Osgood digs us into Howard can get us out of...
-
I'd love to see Osgood get torched in this game... so we can finally stop seeing posts from the few remaining fools who think he should be starting in the playoffs.
-
It's Jimmy or bust Osgood is done. Note: These words WILL NOT come back to haunt me in any way shape or form.

Hi Folks, I've read a lot of post complaining about taxes, weird on a hockey forum but whatever. I'm a Canadian Wings fan and I can tell you we are much more heavily taxed than our friends directly south. I can use my own pay for example, in a two week period I earn 2025 dollars and my take home pay is 1280 in that same two week period (not all of that is tax pension and other deductions are factored in). I'm very comfortable with that though, the public services my tax dollars pay for are very, very good and well worth it. Basically it boils down to the "tax and spend Liberal" vs. the "borrow and spent Conservative"... In the end no matter what the method you gotta pay the piper. GO WINGS GO

Given the quality of play we've seen from Osgood and his reported frustration with a lack of playing time, is it possible he may retire/ask to be traded? Or could the Red Wings look to trade or demote him? Consider that he is scheduled to make 1.1Mil with a cap hit of 1.42Mil and assuming he doesn't play much more/better this season (playoffs included) would it make sense from a team perspective to clear him off the books and target a new backup who could do the same job for less money? Examples from this season Yann Danis or Michael Leighton who each make roughly 60% less than Osgood would next year.
-
Last year in the playoffs he wasn't terrible night in and night out.... he wasn't bad enough to lose a game on his own. Which for Osgood is the most he's ever been able to give in his career. He's won cups as an adequate goaltender, not a bad deal really. But I dare say like so many before him time has erroded what limited skill was there.
-
Chris Osgood SHOULD feel humiliated his complete lack of even adequate play lead to him losing his starting job to a rookie. (period)

What rumours dish, DISH... I love a good rumour and I'm out of the loop on this!!
-
On the back end I'd love to see either Volchenkov or Kurtis Foster... Up front Colby Armstrong. The likelyhood of any of these guys in a Wings uni is remote however.
-
I think the savings from a lateral move with regard to the back goalie position would be a good thing. At this stage Osgood is purely a back up and a backup of equal ability can be inked for 500K less a year. That's 500K toward a resigned or new FA.

On a related note.... CROSBY DOESN'T STOP!

Jesus those grapes are sour!!

Brandon Dubinsky calling Sidney Crosby a little baby

As a Canadian, I'm a Crosby fan for the next 2 weeks or so... as he helps Canada go for gold.
