I'm watching the Pens/Caps game not and Pierre mentioned that when we traded for Lang we sent Flichman (sp) and a 1st which turned out to be Green. Whis is this relevant? Well the way I look at this if at the trade deadline we could deal any or all of Raffi, Stuart, Cleary, Draper and Osgood for 1st round picks we accomplish a few things... 1) we see how the Miller's, Kindl's etc do in the show when the job is theirs to win or lose 2) we potentially drop a bit increasing the chance of a higher draft position or we make it to the playoffs with a young scrappy team and 3) we free cap space for solid off season signings. Add to this the UFAs we may or may not resign we could have a lot of cap space available for signings or trades. Also you're new core of Flip, Zetterberg, Dats, Franzen, Kronner and hopefully Lids remains intact. I really feel the supporting cast has let us down this year so why not get out from under their contracts and retool?

Chris Osgood proves Jimmy Howard should be in goal for Red Wings

Clearly you've not noticed that Babcock has no confidence in Osgood... Osgoof won't see the playoffs unless Howard completely meltsdown. -

Osgood is washed up accept it, and move on. Last years playoffs were his last gasp. -
Osgood has no rebound control issues you're right, the first shot is usually in the net.
-
People praise Howard because he's played well... as for making excuses, thats an Ozzy fan exclusive, not that you'd know anything about that given your post
-
Are you sure? Sounds like pinning to me.

No the sample is adequate, from the start of the season until now... some on here make it sound as if Osgood played with a Junior B team out there due to injuries and Howard had an all star team... My point is that under the same set of circumstances Howard has played better and earned the confidence of his team mates... while with Osgood in net the team looks as though they are waiting for the softy to go in.
-
The major difference I've noticed in this whole situation is the look of the team on the ice... Simply put the team seems to play well and play with confidence with Howard in goal and they seem to play scared and tentative with Osgood in net. Take a close (and honest) look at the body language next time you watch a game. Also, if the wings make the playoffs it will take a meltdown by Howard and a resurgence by Osgood to dislodge Howard as the starter.

Predicting a 6-2 loss... 5 on osgood in a period and a half and 1 on Jimmy after he comes in. Helm and Eves for Detroit.
-
Personally I think something very odd is happening in Detroit with Osgood... I'm no Osgood fan that's well established BUT it would seem that tonight against the lowly Islanders would have been a prime time to A. rest Jummy and B. give Osgood a softy to get back playing. I wonder if their is something going on behind the scenes that we're not aware of... As for the playoffs Jimmy needs to get a try at it... Remember way back in the day when Osgood was in net for that opening round loss to San Jose.

We (Canada) lost the WJHC this year and that's fine, you can't win 'em all... just most of them Regardless of who was there or not there where they play junior hockey or if their parents are Canadian and they grew up state side while dad was playing in the NHL, those kids played on the US team and they won. That being said I'll take our (Canada's) record in the WJHC any day.

Yup and hes been just effin fair for all 16 years and had his success on all star calibur teams. Osgood would be a career backup minus the teams hes played on. Also guys hes played with if those quotes come from when they were on the same team together they dont mean a thing... you`d hardly throw one of your fellow players under the bus. Get a clue.
-
Yea he was lights out against the sharks in 93..... f*** Osgood is done, finished, washed up... lat years playoffs were his last bit of good play. his career is OVER.
-
Osgood has lost his starting job to a rook he's 37... the end of the road is near and none too soon. Trade for Halak and settle the goaltending question for good.
-
I just hope Osgood retires after the season's over, that way this board can move on... OsGood or OsBad discussions are getting old. He is what he is, a good enough goaltender who can get hot as a fircracker from time to time or who can be ice cold at other times. Other goalies of this ilk include Roloson, Emery, Guigere, Conklin, Vokoun etc. Osgood has had a good run with a great team over a long period of time.
-
Where can I get a list of these RFAs?
-
Hey folks... I was wondering if anyone might have a website that lists the probable starting goalies for the next night/days games... if so please post the link it would help me greatly in my fantasy pool. -MAC

Just imagine if the wings miss the playoffs or a higher seed in the playoffs by a point or two... how big will this non sense be then?
-
You're a complete *******.

Thank-you for proving my earlier point: "Clearly, since it was the fault of the Defence for the losses and Osgood's poor play early on, this recent hot streak and "better play" by Osgood can be directly attributed to the Defence right? Or does the knife not cut both ways in Osgood Apologist Nation?"
-
I've been a Wings fan for 18 years, if that's bandwaggoning then so be it... but I was there during the loss to SJ way back, I was there man, I was there...
-
Their is no face to save... again I'm pointing out that some folks here will blame anything or anyone in an attempt absolve Osgood of his poor play, but in games that he starts and we win or where few goals are scored agaisnt, its all Osgood. That dosen't add up. (PERIOD)
-
I'm pointing out that his struggles early on were blamed by many on the defence, now that we've had 3 good games he's a god like figure in the eyes of those same people. Those folks can't have it both ways, either the whole team is at fault or should be praised.
