By giving his 20 minutes a game to who exactly?
-
Yeah I should clarify. They haven't sucked long enough to equate to the Lions. There is some current similarity in the gross incompetence that keeps getting rewarded in Edmonton like what happened with the Lions under Millen.

I don't think he was good and regressed so much as he seemed decent and people projected an improvement in his play that was unrealistic for a converted forward picked last overall in the draft. If the Wings had a decent blueline, Ericsson would not be on the top pair and he'd look much better. He should probably be a #4 guy who also plays on the PK. But he has great size and actually uses it, not as much as I like but he's our most physical defenseman. He's one of the few guys who can actually clear the crease. Generally he has a good first pass, especially for a defensive d-man, though this year his decision making some games has been suspect. He hasn't been a stabilizing force for the defense like you'd like him to be, but I wouldn't put him at the top of the list of the Wings defensive problems.

As a Lions fan, I feel bad for Oilers fans having to watch that disaster of a franchise. That being said, I can't believe the Oilers get 1st overall again. Four 1st overall picks in six years is nuts. Somewhere built into the playoff lottery system should be a factor that accounts for when you last had the 1st overall pick. And how many times that's happened.

Injured Former Wings coach/GM Bryan Murray has stage 4 cancer

Bryan Murray's colon cancer has apparently spread and is now end stage. Sounds like it's not so much fighting to beat it, as how much more time will he get with the treatments. Bob McKenzie retweeted Chris Stevenson @CJ_Stevenson 2h2 hours ago Bryan Murray told @MichaelFarber3 cancer has spread from colon to liver and lung, no cure. Get a colonoscopy is Murray's message. #courage Here's the piece TSN did on him. http://www.tsn.ca/video/bryan-murray-s-ultimate-battle-1.134604 http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/eye-on-hockey/24805063/sens-gm-bryan-murray-on-cancer-there-is-no-cure-for-me-at-this-point -

I'd take him on the Wings in a heartbeat. I don't know why anyone wouldn't. The guy is an immense talent. He's still got growing up to do for sure but I think the Red Wings culture would help that. As would getting out of the ridiculous hockey environment of Montreal. The diving drives me nuts, but the hate for Subban does seem disproportionate to what he actually does. And in interviews and behind the scenes footage he always seems well spoken for a hockey player and pretty humble. -

The diving is my biggest complaint with Subban. There does seem to be a culture of diving with the Habs, sort of like with the Canucks a few seasons back. Subban has had a few questionable plays but I don't consider him a cheapshot artist. And if you're comparing Smith to Subban, only one of the two of them has been suspended. -

It seems like we're agreeing on a few things. I've said multiple times I'd be pissed but wouldn't expect the league to give a suspension. I'd want the Wings players to handle it. But their coach was threatening the league and the Habs, basically saying if you don't suspend Subban then we're gonna do the same or worse and you better only give us 5 minutes. I still can't believe he wasn't fined. The league really let him off the hook on that one. And I've used the same childish logic growing up when I felt like my parents let my brother get away with something. It was pretty hilarious hearing it from a head coach. Then calling it a "microfracture" as they continued to lobby the league, which is basically a bone bruise. But a microfracture sounds like something is broken, which it isn't. But it worked because media outlets started repeated "Stone has broken wrist," which isn't actually the case. To be clear, I'm not a Habs fan. I can't believe some of the ridiculous things they've done as a team and fanbase (calling the cops on Chara is a good example). The Sens are proving themselves just as big of drama queens. This series should be fun to watch. -
I don't think it has to be European size ice, but I do think a couple feet wider would make a difference. I can't see it happening because the owners would have to spend money to change their arenas. Remember how long it took some owners to replace the seamless glass that was injuring their players?

I'm just saying I've seen guys take a puck to the face and roll around less than Stone did. My guess is he plays next game after a miraculous and heroic recovery on his bone bruise. Not taking my ball and going home. I stated my point and you didn't seem to believe me so I'm not sure where to go from there. Like I said, if someone did that to Datsyuk or Zetterberg I'd be pissed. And I'd want someone on the Wings to handle it. But I don't think I'd be calling for some huge suspension. -

He didn't break his wrist. He has a microfracture in one of the bones in his wrist. Micro, as in tiny. And if you did I bet that to me I bet it would hurt like hell and I would fall to the ground, but I still probably wouldn't flail around like my hand got cut off. And I'm nowhere near as tough as most hockey players are that's for sure. We're talking about hockey players here. He needs to grow a pair. -

Pronger 2.0? How many times was Pronger suspended again? Of course I'd be mad, but it was hardly the most vicious slash I've ever seen. 5 and a game was plenty, especially in the playoffs. And I'm sure it hurt Stone but he needs to toughen up. You'd think his hand was cut off with the way he flailed around. I'm not even really a Subban fan. I used to dislike him, then saw CH24 and grew to like him more (or dislike him less) hearing him outside of the game. He's still immature but also gets more crap than he deserves. What if someone ended a Red Wings career the way Abdelkader basically ended Lydman's with his charge a couple years ago? What if someone suckerpunched Datsyuk the way Franzen has suckerpunched several players? -

Besides giving him a 5 minute major and tossing him out of a playoff game? They've also fined him for tripping and diving in the past. He's no angel but I don't put him up there with someone like Lucic who's run goaltenders and has repeatedly tried to shish kabob players yambags. -

Wow. I can't believe he didn't get a fine for threatening retribution. He even starts his threat by asking if he should take the fine. -

I haven't heard if he's been fined or punished in anyway, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't. Regardless of what it means for the series, if anything happens to a Habs player it exposes the league to potential lawsuits after what went down with Bertuzzi. -

In Tampa they're apparently beating the same drum Flip has heard his whole career. "SHOOT MORE!!!!" He finished the season with 91 SOG. Jurco has more shots on goal then Flip and he only played 11 and a half minutes a night for 63 games. Whereas Flip played 19 minutes a night for 82 games, 3:23 of which is on the power play. I always liked Flip but good god, he's been hearing this whole career and doing little about it. -

He's as big of an idiot as Subban for threatening both the league and the Habs, especially in the post Bertuzzi-incident NHL. Let the players handle it on the ice. -

Some interesting claims by Murray but the Sens have zero credibility on this right now after their coach's comments. They're lobbying (and threatening) the league hard after the incident. Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 9m9 minutes ago Murray says disturbing part for him is that he says Subban made a threat to Stone previous to the incident Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun 7m7 minutes ago Murray says Stone is ''very questionable for the series.'' If the "threat" is true at all I'm guessing it was Subban saying he'd be coming after him or a fairly typical playoff chirp. I doubt he said "I'm gonna break your hand with a slash." -

Subban definitely needs to get his act together. I don't think he should've been tossed but that was a stupid play. If you're gonna key on a guy and give him a few whacks, at least do it in a net front battle or corner. I'm guessing the directive from the coaches was to key on Stone, and Subban took it a little too much to heart.
