2013 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks

Toews has one goal this entire playoffs (scored on the PP). Yes he does other things but there's plenty of role players who do those same things. Star players are expected to play against other star players, and do well. And he was exactly as whiny as Crosby against the Wings. Honestly he was worse. Crosby hasn't been as bad as he was in the Cup Finals against the Wings. It's the only reason Toews belongs in the same sentence as Crosby because while he didn't score against Boston either, Cindy was still a PPG player this postseason. It's not "what have you done for me lately?" It's what have you done for me in the last 3 playoffs? Not much. And as I pointed out a lot of his 2010 points were on the PP. Like I said, Toews used to be one of my favorite players on Chicago, but the kid is as big of a whiner as Crosby when things aren't going his way. And he's slightly overrated by people on his playoff performances. Yzerman certainly complained to refs as he got older. But that's a seasoned vet who's earned a place in the league over a long career. Toews was flopping and whining and pouting.

2013 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks

It's hilarious to me that Hawks fans and even broadcasters try to use intangibles to justify why any particular player is better than another. Especially if you're a sports writer, you should be able to explain it because while it may not be as simple as scoring goals, positive attributes are still tangible. Clutch goals, backchecking, hitting, being a pest. They're tangible. To me whenever I hear anyone talk about a players "intangibles" I just hear "I have no idea why I just like them." Honestly early on I thought that. He was probably my favorite player on the Hawks if I had to pick one. Turns out Kane is a total d-bag off the ice but more of a solid player on it. He wasn't scoring and called himself out on it. Captain Intangibles on the other hand whined about officiating off the ice. Whined to refs on the ice. Dove. Took terrible penalties because Zetterberg wasn't playing nice. He did all the things Crosby gets so much grief for.

Do I seriously have to delete posts containing personal attacks and warn people in a thread that's about great news like Datsyuk resigning??

I'll change it. I'm just a little confused as I thought he couldn't officially sign an extension yet.

    Flyers sign Streit - 4 yrs/5.25million

The thing is, while it's very unlikely at this point, there is technically a chance Pronger could play again. I'd completely agree if they were using it on a guy who was mostly too old and slow to compete in the NHL anymore and had a convenient "injury." But given it's a concussion, I'm fine with it. Pronger was still a very good player when he last played and has 4 more years on his contract. Like I said, it's unlikely, but anything can happen.

2013 Stanley Cup Finals - Boston Bruins vs. Chicago Blackhawks

but... but... intangibles!! Captain Intangibles continues his postseason dominance this year with 0 goals and 0 assists against the Bruins so far, bringing him to 1 goal (which was on the PP) and 8 assists in 20 games. I didn't realize it but the year the Hawks won the Cup and he won the Conn Smythe, 5 of his 7 goals were on the PP as were 10 of his 22 assists.

Cap might be worse than expected.

While I agree that storming off is an overreaction, I completely understand majsheppard's frustration. He took the time to create a topic worthy of discussion and put some thought into it. More often than not these days, posts and threads are met with immediate derision, as was his. Here's the thing. While I think everyone should put some thought into what they post, it's ultimately a discussion forum, not an article or essay, so every piece of information may not be thoroughly researched and a person's opinion may still be evolving. That's the whole point of this place. Discussion. People should be able to express a thoughtful opinion without being insulted or attacked for it. And even have the opportunity for their opinion to be enhanced or changed by discussion with other hockey fans here. But these days if you don't have every one of your sentences vetted by a team of hockey experts and lawyers, a lot of responses will only mock and insult your point before you even have the opportunity to fully explain it. It's no wonder so many good members don't post anymore. Why bother when it's likely your contribution will be met with derision? And as you guys know, you're the ones generating all content here. This site is only as good as the contributions you all make. LetsGoWings needs people to make thoughtful threads and posts a lot more than it needs people to crap all over them. I guess my point is that I wish that more often people's first response to a post was to discuss it rather than trying to win a battle or prove some superiority. We're all Wings fans here after all.

    Franzen Buyout?

I definitely wasn't a fan of the signing. 3 years at $1.9 mill is a little steep for his 10 minutes a night and hanging out in the pressbox come playoff time.

    Franzen Buyout?

I don't think he is either. While I'm happy he didn't throw any clear cheapshots, he didn't provide as much energy as I hoped. And his biggest hits are usually when he takes himself well out of position to make them. While it's nice to have another player on the Wings who will drop the gloves, the staged fights are useless. Unless he suddenly develops some new aspect to his game, like being responsible defensively, Tootoo was a bad signing. He's overpaid for what he brings. I just wish the Wings had signed a player like him, but not him.

WCF : (5) Los Angeles Kings vs. (1) Chicago Blackhawks

those three are good. Especially compared to Edzo. If he calls the finals games it's going to be brutal. I've joked about it before but I think he probably would wear his Hawks jersey as he called the game.

WCF : (5) Los Angeles Kings vs. (1) Chicago Blackhawks

It's ok. you're entitled to be wrong. when you harass a guy from behind and he goes down like that. most times it's a penalty. Williams doesn't dive and he certainly isn't going to do it in that situation behind his own net. There wasn't a clear trip but if Bickell isn't all over him, he doesn't go down and lose the puck. That's why you have to call the penalty. A player took a guy down from behind.

WCF : (5) Los Angeles Kings vs. (1) Chicago Blackhawks

I'm rooting for the Kings so I'm biased but Bickell has his free hand off his stick on Williams hip, his stick down around Williams legs. Wiliams goes down behind his own net and loses the puck. 99% of the time that's a penalty. At the very least I'm glad the Kings aren't going down without a fight. It didn't look that way when the game started.

WCF : (5) Los Angeles Kings vs. (1) Chicago Blackhawks

I haven't seen the last couple games but in general the Kings scoring has dried up compared to last year. Brown, Kopitar, and Carter. Thought with Carter it's really just been against Chicago. And last season they were also getting goals from unexpected places, like Dwight King. This playoffs there's been 7 games they only managed to score one goal and not surprisingly they lost 6 of them.

ECF - (4) Boston Bruins vs. (1) Pittsburgh Penguins

Absolutely. It was just lying out and not giving up on the play. Right after he makes the save, one of his own players clips him in the head and he seems stunned, not even realizing he has the puck. Then another Bruin skates by in front of the net and Chara crosschecks him out of the crease before he can even tell it's his own guy. Total chaos at the end. I'm sure I'll hate Chara when the Wings move East, but he's a great defenseman.

    The CapGeek Thread

Chicago didn't seem a whole lot bigger but you also have to remember the Wings average height and weight includes Bertuzzi, Franzen, and Kindl. All who play a lot less physical than their size would suggest.

ECF - (4) Boston Bruins vs. (1) Pittsburgh Penguins

More to the topic, that Chara glove save on Malkin at the ends was nuts. There's a great gif of it but I can't find one that's easy to post here.

ECF - (4) Boston Bruins vs. (1) Pittsburgh Penguins

I think Babcock and injuries leading to opportunities deserve more credit than Holland. At least regarding Holland's recent moves. The kids getting to play as much as they did was not his plan. The Tootoo deal is overpayment/too long a term. The Samuelsson deal wasn't great either. Also remember he was interested in Jagr at the deadline, but it got too expensive. So Holland was exploring giving up assets for a rental.

Visors Required - New NHL Players in '13-'14

This thread is about visors in the NHL. That involves a very select group of people in a very specific professional sport. Keep it about that and not larger social/political commentary. Further posts derailing the thread into any political discussion or making personal attacks will be deleted and result in warning/suspension.

Visors Required - New NHL Players in '13-'14

The visors seemed like an inevitability. I'm more interested that they're taking a look at goaltending equipment again and have a new net that takes up less space behind and at the sides. http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9342716/nhl-competition-committee-recommend-mandatory-visors-new-players Hopefully the competition committee deciding to look at all equipment means the hard shell pads. And not that they're weaseling out of further restricting goalie's equipment.

    Rags Fire Torts

The downside is they may now get a coach who will have that team playing up to their abilities, right as the Wings are moving to the East.
