Agreed. When both goalies have virtually identical numbers like Crawford and Emery did, I think it says more about the team and the system than any particular goalie's abilities.

I agree that Smith hasn't been very good. But I'm guessing a lot of teams would love for the Wings to dump him for nothing. Smith is playing over 19 minutes a night, third among Dmen behind Kronwall and Ericsson. And now doing it against the best team in the league. He's getting exposed for the rookie he is. Imagine if the Wings had played Kindl or Ericsson like that. They had the benefit of a better blueline so they could play lower pressure bottom pairing minutes. Smith is getting thrown in the deep end. It's painful to watch, but this is the team we have right now. It's trial by fire.

I'm saying it was a broken play. Cleary had a 50/50 shot at who he should cover. Quincey covers the pass. Typically that means he stays in the middle. If Quincey stays in the middle to cover the pass, then Sharp could've walked in on the left side for a quality shot and you guys would be bashing Cleary for not covering him. It's only in retrospect because Q made a sliding play towards Sharp that it seems obvious Cleary should've picked up the trailer. I'm not defending Cleary. I'm pointing out that play was on Smith. But because Cleary is the scapegoat this year you'll even bash him for not guessing correctly on a broken play.

Cleary was the closest forward backchecking. Quincey is taking away the pass, he makes a nice play but normally you don't expect the D man to pull over that far since the goalie has the shooter and D man takes the pass. Had Cleary slowed up and picked up the trailer you guys would probably be bitching that he should've gone after Sharp. If anything Smith should've kept skating his ass off to pick up the trailer. Smith made a rookie mistake and everything broke down. The lengths you guys go to bash Cleary has gotten comical at this point.

Scuderi is a solid D-man and I wouldn't mind him on the Wings either, but I'd be surprised if the Kings didn't re-sign him. Mitchell may very well be done because of his knee so the Kings would need Scuderi even more. Plus Scuderi is basically the #3 guy on the Kings. I doubt he'd slot in the #6 spot for Detroit.

crazy end to the Kings game. With less than 3 minutes left and the Kings down by a goal, Stuart gets a tripping call (which I thought was a good call because it was a prime scoring chance). Then another Shark gets a delay of game for puck over the glass. Looks like it might've hit carter on the way out, but hard to tell. Kings score on 5 on 3, then again on remaining power play. Game over.

That's quite the miraculous recovery by Vlasic. Torres getting suspended is the best thing that happened to the Sharks. Gomez has been great for them in a bigger role tonight.

Why would I be appalled? He keeps hitting guys in the head. I'm fine with it. Those kind of hits where you cut across a player like Torres tried to often end badly. It's why most players don't attempt them. It's difficult to make solid body contact. And I'm not worried about it becoming the No Hit League. I'd rather guys figure out how to hit someone without trying to brain them. Because if there gets to be enough people out there like Torres who keep concussing players, what I'm really afraid of is that the league will make some drastic rule change that's much more detrimental to the game.

I have to say, in spite of how irritating players on the Sharks can be, my experience with Sharks fans online (mostly on hfboards) has been surprisingly good. That place is often chock full o' nuts, but in general they seem to be the most level headed, friendliest fans.

Agreed. Dats deserves his own award, for being a magician or something. But writers love stats and Dats puts up good offensive numbers while being at or near the top in takeaways. I'm not saying Dats shouldn't win a Selke, it's just a shame Zetterberg probably won't in his career because he is the better shut down forward, which is closer to the original intention of the award.

League felt head was primary point of contact. Torres history also key I didn't think the hit was that bad, but from the league's perspective you have a player who keeps being involved in hits to players heads. given the angle Torres hit from, there was little chance he wouldn't hit Stoll's head. And a good chance he would catch little or none of his body. Like I've said before I think Torres is a headhunter so the longer he sits the better.
