Agreed. They still don't look quite as good as they did last season, but they're finding ways to win. I guess even last year though they built momentum and confidence with each game they won. And Quick has been looking great.

It didn't look that bad to me either, though honestly I'd be completely fine with Torres getting a penalty and preferably a suspension for every hit he throws for the rest of his career . It was a reputation call, but he's built a career on hits that often vary from questionable to outright headhunting. There've been some awful calls on clean hits for sure. But someone could also start a thread of all the big hits this season and argue that the league is hitting harder than ever. A few garbage calls doesn't mean the league is doomed.

No, it isn't. I guess I'm confused. Are we handing out grades based on ability or performance? If it's ability then I understand the C for Cleary. If it's for performance then he's apparently being knocked down a full grade because he's the LGW whipping boy this season.

Your assessment sounds more like a generic criticism people have repeated all season rather than reflecting anything Cleary has actually done in the last 7 games. If we're handing out grades, there's no way Cleary and Flip deserve the same one.

I agree, except maybe about the mental mistakes. Babcock has him out there in high pressure situations. But I don't see what his failing body has to do with his grade. In spite of all his injuries catching up with him, Cleary has 2 goals and 3 assists. That's third on the Wings in playoff scoring. He also battles in front of the net and does the dirty work retrieving the puck in the corners. But to you he was "he was unable to contribute much else" and gets the same grade as Flip, who other than a few brief great moments last night was brutal this series? I don't get it.

I know the man in the crease was not his assignment, but on the replay you can clearly see down the ice what Ovechkin is actually doing. He is not covering his man at the right point. If that play happens against say the Coyotes and that's Shane Doan in Ovie's spot, Doan hussles back as he sees the play develop and knocks the Rangers player into next week as he's shooting the puck. I'm not expecting Ovechkin to save a goal. I'd expect him to at least keep skating and be a part of the play, and try to help out his teammates when it's clear they're scrambling down low.
