Can Mlive not afford a decent microphone? Video clip of Franzen talking about his concussion symptoms. When one reporter asks if it's scary since it was his third or fourth concussion, Franzen responds "I've had a few more than that." Has he really? If he's really up to 6 or 7 concussions, it's definitely time to call it a career. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2015/04/latest_concussion_makes_red_wi.html

ECQF : (7) Sénateurs d'Ottawa vs. (2) Les Canadiens de Montréal

Some not so smart comments from the Sens coach: Bob McKenzie retweeted Conor McKenna @mckennaconor · 3h3 hours ago Dave Cameron on Subban slash: "You either suspend him, or one of their best players gets slashed, and they give us 5." #TSN690 I thought he was too when I saw the clip. I didn't watch the game but it sounds like he may have missed some shifts too. I bet it hurt like hell, but be a hockey player man. At least suck it up a little. -
Please folks, let's get back on topic. I wouldn't want to have to suspend anyone for something as silly as not following a simple instruction.
-
No feigning ignorance here. It just seemed unlike you to make such a mistake regarding Franzen's contributions as you're one of the more knowledgable members here regarding hockey. My comment about you saying Franzen was done, then contradicting yourself on the next page was merely to elaborate on why your thoughts on Franzen may not be as clear as you think. If you'd like to discuss further you're more than welcome to PM myself or any of the other mods. Because I agree, we should get back on topic.
-
Your original posts claimed that once Franzen got injured everything fell apart. I didn't steer the conversation anywhere. As you've now shown, their winning percentage is actually better without him. You're usually pretty sharp on those kinds of details. Innocent mistake I guess.

I saw a clip of the slash. Nasty because he caught him on the hands but I still can't believe he got tossed for it. -
What was their record with Franzen vs. without? In this thread alone you've said Franzen is done forever, then later said anyone who thought he was done was 100% jumping to conclusions. So your thoughts on Franzen can be difficult to track.

I so wish I could see this game. It sounds bananas. Especially with the PK slash. I'm trying to think of the last time someone got tossed for a slash, especially in the postseason. -
Bored I guess? Apparently you're going to keep floating them out there until someone takes the bait.

I don't think he set out to end Franzen's career, but I do think he was headed that towards the bench and absolutely took the opportunity to slam into Franzen. When you watch the highlight he's facing right at Franzen well before the hit and seems like he's looking right at or at least near him. To survive at the NHL level you have to have a pretty good sense of when someone is near you. To me there's no way that was accidental. Guys do run into each other from time to time but it's often when they're circling around and looking the other way, not running into someone they're facing the entire time. The hit is around the 5:35 mark
-
Agreed. It's incredibly irritating that the hit that ended his career was one of those "oops I'm pretending I didn't see you" ones when he didn't have the puck and no penalty was called on the play. I hope Klinkhammer is happy that he was the final nail in the coffin for Franzen's career.

To be clear, this is a hockey discussion website. Obviously most of us here are Wings fans and want the Wings to win, but some of that discussion will involve areas where we think the team is lacking. All discussion here is welcome as long as it is within forum rules, including viewpoints that are critical of the team or deemed negative by other members here. To quote someone, you should see a "Quote" button at the bottom of a person's post. Click on that and it will open a reply window with their post quoted.

S'matter Yzerman, afraid of the jersey you wore for so long?
haroldsnepsts replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
They run the team in terms of player personnel, coaches, assistant coaches, support staff for the team like trainers, scouts, etc. Things having to do with the actual hockey team that plays the game. But as far as I know they have no responsibility or oversight of things like this, which would be promotion, ticket sales, marketing. -
Even the ones that weren't, the refs have to actually call a penalty and even then what counts against PIMS, 10 minutes? I'm guessing the lack of fighting is why PIMs are down. But there's teams that hit. Seemed like Byfuglien was wrecking someone every other game. And watching games not involving the Wings there were guys throwing their weight around. Wings just don't play that style.
-
There were big hits this year, they just tend not to happen with the Wings. The Wings don't really hit, so even when their opponent plays a physical game, it's not that physical relatively speaking.

It would be amusing had I actually compared Lundqvist to Howard. Go re-read my post, including the post I quoted. It was in the context of the best goalies in the league being very aggressive. Lundqvist does not play an aggressive style, yet is among the best goalies in the league. That was my point.
-
That Lundqvist guy doesn't play a very aggressive style and he's pretty good. I actually like Mrazek's aggressive play, but even for him there's times when he was all over the place. Goalies that don't last play like Howard? I don't even know what that means, other than it sounds like you dislike Howard. I don't have a horse in this race. I seriously don't care who starts. I just hope they play well. I'm so over goalie controversies after years of listening to them, all the way back to when fans were arguing if it should be Hanlon or Stefan. I'm just saying based on their performances headed up to the playoffs, neither one clearly won the job. It's why we had no idea who was starting until Babcock announced it. Mrazek is starting game 1. Great. I hope the kid plays lights out. I've not said that Howard should be starting over Mrazek for game one, so I'm not sure what your point is.

His puck handling I'll give you, but I disagree on the 100 times more comfortable. And I don't know how you can tell who wants it more. No matter how Jimmy is playing, one thing is for sure is that he's a fiery competitor. I'm guessing he wanted to hang onto his starting job pretty badly. I know Mrazek plays an aggressive style but there were games he was so overly aggressive he was taking himself way out of position. And Mrazek has yet to put together a string of good performances. Jimmy started turning his game around, had some good games and made huge saves, but then let in those brutally soft goals. Neither one won the starting position. It's basically a gamble of who will hopefully screw up less, or get it together in the postseason in a way they didn't manage to during the regular season.
-
Agreed. Smith's problems seem to be between the ears. His decision making is suspect. And he's had enough experience where a lot of that should be going away.
-
I'm fine with whoever plays, but frankly neither one performed well enough to deserve a playoff start. The team backed their way into the playoffs and Mrazek backed his way into starting game 1. Hopefully the kid finds consistency in the postseason.

Subban Karlsson will be fun to watch as well. I'm thinking the Habs will win out but it should be a fun series. -
43-25-14......3rd seed in Division. Success or Failure?
haroldsnepsts replied to kliq's topic in General
Agreed. Unless it's specific information about the roster for next game, I don't put much stock in a lot of what he says to the media. Sometime he seems be trying to motivate his team, other times it seems like he's just screwing with reporters. He doesn't quite have the open disdain for post game interviews that Darryl Sutter does, but he's not too far off. -

Actually Yzerman always had a sense of humor. He was one of the biggest smartasses on the Wings, but he kept it pretty well out of the public. You didn't really hear stories until later in his career, and especially after he retired. Though there is the infamous moment of him taunting Domi from the bench with the heavyweight belt gesture after Domi's rematch with Probert. Toews just seems like he has zero personality.
