Since Cooke has been "reformed" for me it's easily Raffi headhunter Torres. He's built his career on a string of borderline late/questionable hits that often contact the head.

Dirtiest player in the league wins it in the the shootout for San Jose over the Kings. (no not Cooke)

From the LA Times: http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-sn-kings-ducks-winter-classic-dodger-stadium-20130416,0,1597638.story The NHL is whoring out one of the best ideas they've had in years to try and make up for revenue lost during the lockout.

No kidding. And I thought the ice was bad at the previous Winter Classics. At least it was frozen. On January 25th the average high in LA is 67 and the low is 49 degrees.

NHL Official Release: Because so many teams wanted one, next season there will be 8 Stanley Cups.

Hey NHL, way to take a great event and water it down!!

Semin re-signs with Carolina: 5 years, $35 million ($7M/yr)

If you don't like the thread, don't post it in it. It's really pretty simple. If you do post in the thread. Stay on topic and no personal attacks of any kind. This includes ones of the thinly veiled passive aggressive variety. -
Wait, are you agreeing or disagreeing with me? That was my main point. Not so much the specifics of the Stuart situation, but it's a father who was separated from family. It sounds like Datsyuk gets very limited time with his daughter because she's back in Russia most of the year. I can't dismiss the opportunity to be close to his daughter as simple posturing.

Assuming capgeek has it correct at 5.3 every year, I'm surprised Holland didn't keep it low for a season or two then bring it up so he could give himself a little more breathing room as the cap goes down next season. -
Jagr? He came back but left for the KHL as a 35 year old with plenty of ability left, as we can see now. As I stated before, of course Datsyuk's agent will use the situation but he really does have a daughter in Russia who it sounds like he gets to see for only a week or two a year. When you throw a kid into the equation, I think it's more than just posturing.

It'd be easier to give your arguments more serious consideration if you didn't include them with insults. With Lidstrom it was about raising his kids in Sweden. With Datsyuk it's different because he has a daughter in Russia right now that he barely gets to see. I guess it is nothing to worry about because Stuart had a similar situation and he stayed. Oh... wait... Will his agent try to use the potential of him going to the KHL as leverage? Of course. But to dismiss this as entirely posturing ignores the fact he really does have a daughter there who he never gets to spend time with. A parent wanting to be closer to their child instead of halfway around the world for most of the year runs a little deeper than simple posturing.

Exactly. It's a gamble for sure. Fil hadn't developed the way everyone has hoped, but you also don't want to lose a decent player for nothing. Especially for a team in rebuild mode.

This thread is not and will not be about the Bertuzzi Moore incident. It is about Bert coming back to the lineup here in 2013. Stay on topic.

He definitely is. It was surprising to hear how defensive he was. As if Stanley Cup rings as a player somehow makes him qualified to run hockey operations with edmonton. It was great when someone called him out on his reference to making it to one game away from the Stanley Cup run, pointing out it was 7 years ago. -
Exactly. Knowing you're going to have to fight someone won't stop hits like this. It was a terrible decision and a terrible hit. Idiots like White don't stop and think "uh oh, better not or someone is going to punch me." He's not thinking at all. But players have said time and time again how good it is for morale to see someone sticking up for his teammate after something like that. And it "helps keep the flies off" as Babcock puts it. Cuts down a cheapshots around the net and in scrums from little weasels who act like toughguys against the Wings because they know they can. As I said at the time, when Jimmy got run over and bent backwards, at least one Red Wing should've started pounding on the guy or crosschecking the snot out of him. Instead they stood around looking to the ref. Pounding on a guy in a situation like that isn't just to keep him from doing it again, an all out brawl escalates the situation for the refs. Someone runs Jimmy, a melee ensues. So from an officiating perspective they'll probably be more keyed in to guys running the goalie because they don't want to lose control of the game. Taking a penalty there is better than having Jimmy get repeatedly run over and injured as you're trying to make the playoffs.

That's pretty much the exact kind of hits the league is trying to eliminate. Intentional or not, White had little chance of contacting the body, which is the actual point of checking someone. Given he's not a star player I expect a fairly significant suspension, which I'm fine with. I'm not sure what it's going to take to get guys like White to realize you can't throw those hits because you're almost certainly going to contact the head, and there's a very good chance you'll miss the body.

They're certainly not great, but they traded away their captain, Jagr, and their 2nd line center. And they're still right on the Wings tail in the playoff hunt. Doesn't really speak well for our team either.

Given the nature of the incident, the lack of information, and that this is a hockey discussion forum, I ask that everyone avoid speculation and go the extra step to be civil to one another. I understand the inclination to discuss all aspects of the event, but this isn't really the appropriate place. Thoughts and prayers to those Boston.

Concerned - we might not make it in to the playoffs

It'd be really impressive if the Stars made the playoffs. At the deadline they traded away their captain, Jagr, and 2nd line center in Roy. And right now they're 2 points behind the Wings with a game in hand. -
Backes continuing to show what a classy guy he is with a couple of hits to Toews legs, followed up by a crosscheck to his back as they skate up ice.
-
Great game by Jimmy. Zetterberg too. Nyquist showed some jump and got some great chances.
-
Glad the Wings put it well out of reach because the DVR needs to record Veep and Mad Men.
-
True, but with his sklilset if Kindl were playing anywhere near his potential he shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as Lillypads.
-
He's had some great setups lately on goals, but the Wings need a sniper. Anytime Franzen is in a quality scoring position he should be ripping the puck on net.
-
Mule! How'd he end up that wide open in front of the net??
