Wow. I should've put something like this after the post because it was meant as a lighthearted joke. My bad for not conveying the spirit with which it was intended. I'm glad the lockout is behind us and I'm really not interested in reliving it. I should've never responded in the thread.

They still may be able to give them their paydays, just not the way they used to through longer backdiving contracts. The new CBA has restrictions preventing that but there's no (or at least very liberal) restrictions on pay increases at the front end. So I could see a 7 year term where it's below value to help squeak under the cap the next couple seasons, then takes a significant jump up for the rest of it.

I'm not sure why the NHLPA seems odd to you given the long history of player's unions in major pro sports.

As much as I dislike Bettman, he's not stupid. I'm sure he had done extensive research and cost-benefit analysis on how much of the season he could lose and how much damage to fans and sponsors he could do before it became irreparable. A whole season obviously being too much, but half a season being worth it. The short term losses are really just the price the owners are willing to pay for the much better deal they got for 10 years. It's unfortunate for those put out of work that aren't billionaires and millionaires. And for us fans who once again lost more hockey. At least it'll be 10 years before he locks the players out again. And I guess there's the off chance he won't be commissioner. I don't remember you particularly having such a lighthearted attitude about things when the lockout was on. For me it's kind of like voting. If a person doesn't vote, I don't want to hear them complaining about government. If that person runs back and gives money to the NHL, they really shouldn't be complaining about the lockout. They're the ones who are making it such a profitable move for Bettman and the owners.

The article and tweet basically states what we all know. He might be done for the season. With 9 games left it's pretty likely unless the Wings make the playoffs and pull of a miraculous run. Either way, they're not declaring it absolutely yet. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/04/red_wings_preparing_to_go_with.html

Especially when the ref that calls the penalty is at center ice instead of the one 20 feet away. It's one of my biggest pet peeves with the two ref system. From that distance as he's skating towards the play, there's no way he got a good look at what happened. In the thread about this dive over at hfboards there's post clips of a few other awful dives this season. Like Steve Bernier pulling a Carcillo and faking like he got hit with a high stick that never actually touched him. He goes right to the bench rubbing his lip and even checks in with the trainer. Overall though that weasel Perron's is still #1 for me so far.

This pretty much sums up my view. I'm not upset the team isn't dominating anymore and needs a rebuild. I'm just confused as to exactly what the rebuild plan is. As has been mentioned before, it's not like going into the season Holland was planning let the kids play and develop, even if it made for a mediocre season. Holland signed guys like Cola and Sammy headed into this season to plug holes. Most of the kids got ice time because of injuries, not strategy. Even at this trade deadline, he talks about the Wings being in a rebuild phase, while also mentioning going after Jagr. So the Wings are clearly trying to rebuild but he pursued an aging playoff rental?

I know, as someone who watches LA a lot, that myth is starting to give me a facial tic. I should just cut and paste the reasons that's not true or put it in my signature or something.
-
I was watching the play, what were you watching? Where Perron was clearly holding Zetterberg's stick. Perron knocks Z down, they're in a pile, then as Zetterberg gets up, he can't because Perron has his stick trapped under his arm. Does it seem a little unlike Z to just start going off on a guy for no reason?
-
It is pretty funny how whenever he's involved in a scrum, there's usually a ref between him and the guy he's jawing with.
-
Elliott didn't even know where the puck was until it hit his glove. Talk about having a good day in net.
-
I'm talking about calling a clear penalty late in a one goal game. The Wings are trying to tie it up and Perron is obviously holding his stick. The ref is 6 feet away watching the whole thing and doesn't call it until Zetterberg retaliates.
-
O'Halloran must be beside himself with joy right now being able to call that.
-
The refs are cowards. tight game and they don't want to give the Wings an advantage.
-
Perron is the second most annoying player on the Blues. Backes is at least tough and will go with anyone. How do you not call holding the stick there?
-
Even the guys they do have need to shoot more. It's great that Mule has had some nice passes lately but he needs to use his shot. And Nyquist cannot pass the puck when he's got an opportunity from a pretty good spot.
-
It seems like it's just the top two lines for the Wings alternating out there.
-
Shoot that puck Nyquist. lord.
-
Wings aren't getting shots from very high percentage areas. Blues aren't doing a great job either but they're definitely getting there more than the Wings.
-
Agreed. I'd take Tootoo skating hard and hitting guys every shift over one of his staged fights. He does it once in a while but just doesn't seem to be a factor. I just think he's a POS. I never said I wouldn't want him on the Wings. I would've taken a prime Chris Pronger on the Wings in a heartbeat.
-
Wings are getting shots but most of the time when the shot actually gets through there's no one in front of Elliott.
-
Big surprise Backes being a POS. That's one of this favorite moves. A little chop at a guys skates as he's headed to the boards. Or as Backes is trying to get out of the zone. He chops the skates, they go down in a heap and he skates on.
-
The one time Kindl doesn't get the puck through in the offensive zone it ends up in the Wings net. I don't fault him for that, though that was a pretty half-hearted poke check at the blueline, then everyone got all crossed up in coverage. Good thing they ignored that too many men against St. Louis.
-
As a young man he was shot when in Detroit. I honestly don't know if that's it though. But he definitely harbored a special hatred for Holmstrom.
-
so the refs missed a too many men penalty that would've put the Wings on a 5 on 3? And Olczyk of all people is the one who calls it out??
