I checked it back on the DVR and I think you're right. It looks like the center ice ref calls the penalty. It's part of what makes the officiating so crappy. The refs standing 10 feet away don't call anything and the one at center ice thinks somehow he's got a better angle.
-
Right. I forgot about that. It's only in the defensive zone though, right? or is it all zones?
-
faceoff violation? oh crap. did Datsyuk grab it with his glove? Isn't that the new rule this year?
-
The linesman this year are friggin awful. what's the penalty?
-
At first I thought the call was awful until I saw the replay. WTF is Quincey thinking grabbing Clifford's head like that?
-
Any player should be embarrassed after seeing that video. That's awful for a fourth liner, let alone star player.
-
I don't know if that was supposed to be for Z and he didn't see it coming, but straight up the middle Ericsson? He's had a couple bad passes tonight.
-
If they can kill these off it's huge because you can bank on makeup calls later.
-
ouch. If E hadn't have stuck the stick between the legs, it would've been a good defensive play.
-
Jeez. are they this bad doing SJ games?
-
Who are these announcers? And wow Bernier looks lost tonight.

Ed Olczyk, professional broadcaster, professional idiot
haroldsnepsts replied to Jedi's topic in General
I hate to say it because I think Olczyk is one the most biased, unprofessional broadcaster to do network games, but I kind of agree with him. I'd have to see it real time to know for sure. The hit looked a bit late but it's hard to tell in slow mo. And it's with Carcillo, so I have a hard time feeling bad about it. But you shouldn't submarine out of a hit along the boards like that. It's one thing to try to spin and get your whole body out of the way, but if you keep a leg or your lower body in the line of fire, you do send a player headfirst into the boards. And in the interest of your own safety, ducking down like that increases the chances of taking a shot to the head. Carcillo's elbow did come awfully close to Yakupov's head, but he had his elbow pretty tucked until he missed. I will say he's an idiot for thinking there should be a penalty for this. It's more just a right way to play the game. -
Red Wings to be in an Eastern conference in latest NHL/NHLPA proposal
haroldsnepsts replied to a topic in General
What are they going to do when they finally give in and move Phoenix? It's not as good for me personally, but it'll be good for the Wings to be in the East. And great to see them playing teams like Boston, Montreal and the Leafs more often. -
Can't find a shorter video but this covers it. Clowe came off the bench to go after Shaw for his hit on Pavelski. Officials have ruled it was not a line change. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Clowe was deemed by officials to have come off bench for purposes of starting altercation with CHI's Andrew Shaw in final 10 seconds. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie Clowe has been offered in-person hearing, which would allow NHL discretion to suspend 6 or more games if it chooses. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie One option is auto 10-game suspension but that carries with it one-game suspension for head coach. McClellan coaching is coaching tonight.

Kings put 5 goals past Fasth. They've won 6 out of their last 7. Looks like they may be getting it together, even without Greene and Mitchell.
-
I haven't seen the Ducks play this season until now, but I think I understand the secret to their success and Fasth's. It's the first period and they basically send in one forechecker with the other four guys back. Then if he gets a turnover they rush in and cycle the puck. four guys back? first period? really? The game's been so ugly so far.

Clowe suspension review for coming off bench against Hawks
haroldsnepsts replied to haroldsnepsts's topic in General
So now it wasn't coming off the bench to start a fight, but he's still suspended? It's disappointing every time Shanaban and the disciplinary committee just make crap up as they go along. If it was a legal line change, then it really wasn't much of anything to warrant 2 games. If it wasn't, then it's 10 games. -
I just meant it sounded like a bad night tonight. But I still think it's a mess of a situation in Vancouver and he'd be better off moving on, if they could find a team to take that contract.
-
Wow. When I left the score was tied. I was shocked to see the outcome. Man Luongo needs to get out of Vancouver. Sounded like he was awful tonight, but leaving him in for the whole game is telling. As is yanking him last year against the Kings when he was playing well. Good luck with that contract though. Great to see the Wings stick it to the Canucks though!

As I already requested, let's stay on topic. Posts continuing to discuss moderating policy or other topics will be deleted. If you guys want to further discuss trolling or moderators or forum policy, feel free to start a thread in the water cooler. Thanks.

Brendan Smith, Carlo Colaiacovo: Holland said he anticipates both (out with shoulder injuries) will be ready to play next Sunday vs. Chicago, if not during the trip to California (Wednesday in L.A., Thursday in San Jose). http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2013/02/jimmy_howard_to_start_for_red_3.html

Agreed. I responded to the post but don't want to further derail the thread into a discussion of moderating policy. From here on out let's get back on the topic of Cleary. If someone wants to start a thread in the water cooler regarding forum rules or moderating, they're welcome to.

The mods here prefer that people act like grown ups and realize that the site is only as good as the content people post. The forum is completely user generated content, so if someone thinks the forum sucks, they can focus on generating better content. I am as tired as anyone of the bashing here, but much of it is technically within forum rules. We prefer to moderate in a more relaxed style than to police every thread and go by the letter of the rules. If we did that for example, your post would be off topic and derailing the thread and you would be warned or suspended depending on your history. And someone can genuinely have a critical or unpopular opinion without it necessarily being trolling. Policing opinions that way would do more harm than good. So some people here will post for a while in that grey area. Annoying as it may be in the short term, eventually they usually either fall into trolling and are dealt with or they start to post more productively as they get over whatever it is that upset them. In the meantime if they bother you that much there's the ignore function so you won't have to read their posts.

I knew there'd be more injuries than usual because of the lockout, but this is ridiculous. It's like every injury Lidstrom didn't get in his career is now being cursed onto the Wings.
-
He's topped 40 points 4 times for the Wings and 30 points twice and been a very solid player for the Wings for most of his time here. Though Cleary has looked surprisingly slow this year, like the physical way he plays the game has caught up with him or he has a nagging injury or something. But even for LGW, the bashing has reached ridiculous levels. When Sammy and Franzen return to the lineup that should spread the bashing around slightly.
