Could've been a penalty shot if they're calling the trip. Tatar was in the clear when he got taken down.

Cleary has been a consistent 30-40 point guy with 15-20 goals for six of his eight seasons with the Wings. That's pretty solid. It's just this year he looks completely gassed all the time, especially if he's actually healthy.

Who called the rookie getting his first goal against the Wings by the way? It's crazy how often that seems to happen.

Well those things are Holland's fault, not Quincey's. And don't get me wrong he's not performing like I'd hope he would. All I'm saying is once the ball gets rolling here bashing a player, they get blamed for everything. Quincey's not been great, but he's not been as awful as people are making it sound either. Ditto. I had no idea Quincey had a good +/-. It's the most useless stat in hockey.

Because he was absolutely awful the first few games and wasn't very good the end of last season. Once a player becomes a scapegoat he's doomed for a long while. Some people here are still bashing Ericsson for his play. Though I don't know if I'd go as far to call Q second best.

State of Hockey; High school drama

He was playing for his high school team and flipped off his coaches, so their nose did belong there. He did get suspended for 10 days and deservedly so. http://www.farmingtonindependent.com/event/article/id/22263/ It may seem minor compared to other things that go on at school, but it hardly sends the right message to tolerate that kind of behavior from students.

    Howard = Average

At the risk of dragging this further off topic, the bolded section is the key. The site is only as good as the content you guys provide. Generating better threads and ignoring ones you don't like is a much better solution than us mods having to weigh in on what consitutes "thread worthy" when the thread isn't technically violating any forum rules. Now back to beating that dead horse...

    For some good news....

I've deleted posts in this thread. The topic is not about judging each other's pessimism or optimism. Keep your replies about the content of someone's post, not the person. If the mods have to delete more posts it will result in warnings/suspensions yadda yadda...

I saw that too. I thought maybe he won one as a player. Turns out he got close but never did.

Babcock: Is he the right guy going forward?

I wish Babcock would sit the upper line players more when they're not performing, though I think Tortorella is too far the other direction. The guy's an angry nutjob. It's one thing to do it to motivate guys and give them a wakeup call. But he always seems furious at someone on the roster. In terms of Babcock being the right guy for the job? absolutely. I can think of a few others maybe I wouldn't mind but I can't think of any I'd rather have coaching this patchwork team right now.

    Jordin Tootoo

Are you sure you're thinking of the 2012 playoffs? Tootoo only played three games. the rest of the time he was a healthy scratch. My opinion is more or less the same. Good on him for no cheapshots so far this year. And it's nice to have a guy who drops the gloves. Though it's mostly been staged fights, which doesn't mean a lot to me. I still think he's a defensive liability and at $1.9 mill he's overpaid for his 8 minutes a night. If he earns more ice time, keeps hitting guys without cheapshots, and sticks up for his teammates, I could come around on him.

NHL Ticket price % increase largest of 4 major sports

I'm honestly not taking it that seriously. I'm also aware it's self imposed. And I think anyone who is spending money on the NHL right now shouldn't have uttered a word of complaint during the lockout. If someone is going to support the league with their money, I don't want to hear any whining about how they're being treated as a fan. It's like getting terrible service at a restaurant time and time again and continuing to eat there. I've been a hockey fan for almost 30 years, but I'm old enough and busy enough that there's plenty of other things to do with my time and ways to spend my money. It's not so much abstaining from going to games as it is not making the extra effort to carve out time for them. Plus I can watch games on TV without giving any extra dough to the NHL. A shortened season is generally a mess anyway. Not paying hundreds of dollars to go see a shoddy half season of hockey isn't exactly keeping me up at night. My main point in posting this article is I was surprised not so much by the raise in ticket prices, but that it exceeds the other major sports. And the average ticket is more expensive than basketball. I never would've guessed that.
  15. http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/8945052/nhl-ticket-price-hike-surpasses-other-leagues The NHL continuing to show how much it loves and appreciates its fans. I was a little surprised to see the average ticket price for the NBA is lower than the NHL.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

For those examples intent doesn't matter because they are against the rules. Loathe as I am to defend Cooke, he violated no rule in his hit on Karlsson. It'd be one thing if he came in skates up pointed at someone but he was hardly reckless with his skate. It was a hockey play with an unfortunate outcome. For as fast paced and crazy as the game is, there are very few injuries due to skate blades. It's kind of amazing actually. But they're going to happen from time to time. This was unfortunately a dirtbag player unintentionally injuring a young star player. If Datsyuk or Marty St. Louis had accidentally done it to Karlsson, I doubt people would be arguing so much about it.

NHL Ticket price % increase largest of 4 major sports

Agreed. The NHL isn't getting any money from me this year. Bettman was exactly right in that the fans would come back in droves because they love hockey no matter how they've been treated. During the lockout people kept saying they thought they should lower ticket prices for the fans. Instead they did the exact opposite.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

What makes it even more heartbreaking for Sens fans is the puck hit the netting earlier in the play and should've been blown dead but the linesmen missed it.

Sens Karlsson suffers lacerated Achilles tendon

I think Matt Cooke is still a POS for all his past actions, but I just don't see how this was intentional. Apparently on TSN Aaron Ward showed several clips from the Dallas-Calgary game where players basically did the same thing as they tried to pin a guy to the boards. Players do it constantly, this was just a fluke play by one of the dirtiest players in the game (even if he's reformed) to one of the league's young stars. Were it just about anyone other than Cooke, I also would've had a problem with Neil going after him. Given Cooke's history though, he's still got a careers worth of beatings coming to him.

Stats Thus Far for Suter and Weber

For being one of the last guys in the bidding war for Suter and Parise and losing out? I guess he knew enough not to pay the absolutely top dollar for those two, but it sounded like he was willing to pay an awful lot.

The two Adam trades were probably the most painful in all my years of watching the Wings. Graves and Oates.

I'm pretty sure he got suspended for it. Or at least for flipping off his coaches. I forget who said it but sports don't build character, they reveal it.

Stats Thus Far for Suter and Weber

I haven't really seen the Preds much. Has Weber been that bad, other than obviously his total lack of offense. The whole Nashville team seems to be afflicted. 30th in the league in scoring. But they're also 2nd in goals against. And I know it was only one play but I still can't believe how lazy Suter was on the Hanzal goal (with hilarious analysis. link earlier in thread).

Howson Fired in Columbus, Jarmo Kekalainen named new GM

Lebrun's take on his replacement. http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/id/22041/new-jackets-gm-kekalainen-gets-his-shot Lebrun commented how a couple hockey execs described Kekalainen as knowledgable, but arrogant. Trying to turn Columbus around should be humbling for him, at least in the short term.
