I think it should be make or break. This isn't Kindl's first shot at the roster. He played 55 games last season and 48 the season before that, and was a regular in the lineup for long stretches. While I agree they should give him a crack at several games in a row, if after that he still can't hold on to even a #6 spot as a 26 year old in his third season, when will he? EDIT: Just saw you said TONIGHT was make or break. Definitely agree he should get more than one game. This season will be make or break, not just one game.

I don't know that he wants him to be a stay at home, shutdown guy. The Wings have enough of that. I'm guessing he just wants Kindl to stop bailing out of a play when he's about to get hit and play up to his level of ability. He looked like he was starting to get it together last season but then went back to his old ways, avoiding getting hit, just banging the puck up off the glass to try and clear the zone when there's any pressure. Like I've said before, Kindl is 6'3" and 216 lbs. The only people bigger than him on the Wings blueline are Ericsson and Huskins, but he plays like he's Hudler size, not just in dishing out punishment but also in his willingess to take it

While I don't disagree from what I've seen of Quincey's play, it sounds like Babcock is really pushing to get the PP going, so Kindl and Quincey over Lashoff. Why should he be given anything? Kindl has had a lot of chances to earn a permanent roster spot, like last season when he couldn't even hold one over Commie.

First, you can make your point without the insult. Second, the LA defense was great at the end of the season and playoffs. Mitchell was their best D-man. Doughty was back on form and working hard under Suter. Greene was a solid physical stay at home guy. Voynov was playing like a seasoned vet and not a rookie. Martinez a serviceable #6 guy who brings great speed. I don't know about best but it's not ridiculous to think they're one of the better defensive corps. Big, physical, with a great mix of speed and skill.

agreed, but it inflates point totals keeping teams in the playoff hunt much later than they otherwise would be. that means games are still relevant later in the season which means tv ratings and ticket sales are better, so owners love it.
