NHL Gamecenter Live **No illegal stream discussion**
haroldsnepsts replied to WorkingOvertime's topic in General
The site (and any like it) is illegal based on it's unauthorized rebroadcast of copyrighted material, not the availability of gamecenter. And i know what you mean about the discount. $50 is pretty good I guess, but they're hardly bending over backwards to win back fans. -
Well when he has to make a correction because he forgot someone like Anze Kopitar the season after his team won the Cup, you have to wonder how much actual thought he put it into the list. Especially when you put Jack Johnson at 67?? MA Fleury at 21 right behind Quick at 20?? This list is all kinds of wrong.

NHL Gamecenter Live **No illegal stream discussion**
haroldsnepsts replied to WorkingOvertime's topic in General
From the forum rules: I've deleted a few posts mentioning illegal streaming sites. Let's stay on topic about Gamecenter and legal alternatives. -
Yeah, given his personal situation you have to wonder if he's gone after his NHL contract ends next year. He could be making good money playing in Russia, be near his daughter, family and friends, less chance of being brained out on the ice, and no lockouts. I can't say I'd blame him if he goes, though it would be a huge blow to the Wings.
-
I have to admit I've ripped on Sammy for his shot selection in the past, but given his production and his contract at the time, he was a bargain for the Wings. I can't say I wanted him back necessarily though on a 35+ contract with a NTC.

I keep forgetting about that. Not being in Detroit anymore I kind of missed that story. He really owes $70 mill in taxes? It's surprising given how much he's done for the city. He obviously cares about Detroit. EDIT: Most stories I found say he owes $1.5 mill in back property taxes, which he disputes. Weirdly all the 70 mill number seems to be on hockey related sites. Definitely. I think they do a pretty good job promoting the team given they have to work extra hard to get people's attention. I thought the Kings twitter account was brilliant. Even though hockey is already big in Detroit and Ilitch can pretty much count on fans coming crawling back, it still would be a big gesture for the city.

The LA Kings donated $1 million to the local community and had an autograph signing at Staples. That's a pretty good start. The city of Detroit could certainly benefit from something like that.
-
As others have pointed out it's no commitment. I think it just makes some of us nervous because given Holland's fondness for picking up players in their twilight years, a tryout is a bit like an alcoholic going to a bar "just to see what brands they carry."
-
I think Dipietro's is still worse because he's been injured for so much of it and still has so long to go. Gomez is grossly overpaid but is at least in the lineup.

Visnovsky files NHLPA grievance to void NYI trade
haroldsnepsts replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Arthur Staple @StapeNewsday #Isles booked flight for Visnovsky today. He wasn't on it. Appears this will be settled between NHL and KHL now. -
NHLPA @NHLPA Per agreement with the NHL, we will announce results of player vote later today. Discussions to finalize the MOU continue this morning. Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie It's my expectation some GMs are sitting on trades/signings that are done or close to done and as soon as gun goes off, there'll be activity

Would you trade Jimmy Howard for an elite forward/defenseman?
haroldsnepsts replied to shoobiedoobin's topic in General
Sure he's getting a lot of attention now that the Kings won the Cup, but most of it is warranted. I'd take Quick over Howard and I like Howard. But Quick should've been an MVP candidate last season because he kept the Kings in game after game when they couldn't score. He had a tremendous season backstopping a team that could not get it together a lot of the time. The Kings were very sound defensively come playoff time, but he absolutely made HUGE saves against the Canucks and St. Louis. He didn't have to be as brilliant as the playoffs went along and the Kings got even better. I wouldn't say that Howard doesn't have it, but Quick certainly had it last season. To date, Quick has performed at a level that Howard hasn't reached. It's not to say that Jimmy won't someday, and there's always the question if Quick will be able to maintain that level of play. -
Would you trade Jimmy Howard for an elite forward/defenseman?
haroldsnepsts replied to shoobiedoobin's topic in General
Is anyone really saying Howard sucks? I think people are mistaking saying they'd trade Howard with somehow bashing him or thinking he's awful. For me it's purely a hypothetical that would never happen. But if you could get a truly elite defenseman for a goalie who was very good but not elite, that sounds like a pretty good trade. As for Datsyuk, he came into the league as a 24 year old and had a pretty good season but definitely seemed affected by the grind of a full NHL season. And his lack of playoff production is no big deal now but was baffling then for a player with so much talent. It's not a knock on Dats, but if you think he was pimping from day one you're either grossly underestimating how good he is now, or have revisionist history of his rookie season. He was a talented player who showed flashes of brilliance. But over the years he's gotten physically stronger, grittier, better defensively and a lot more confident with the puck. -
All snotty sarcasm aside, I think people are often too sensitive about some imagined anti-Wings bias. However, Enzo is an exception. With Olczyk it sounds like they picked a fan from the stands as he goes on about the Wings "subtle interference" and pointing out what should've been penalties called against them. It's one thing to do that when you're the color guy for the Hawks or Pens, but his lack of professionalism on NBC is embarrassing. And the difference between him and Ken and Mickey is they're doing a local fox sports broadcast. Several of the guys who do the national games have some ties to other teams but manage to set that aside and be relatively objective on NBC. Olczyk is awful.

To clarify, my saying take it to PMs does not mean "everyone chime in with their last word." It means either kindly get back on topic, kindly take the Bettman-Fehr blame game to PMs, or kindly STFU. (Not directed at you rrasco. Your post just snuck in before mine)

Zetterberg named Captain, 36th Captain in Red Wings History
haroldsnepsts replied to HELLDOGSbmx's topic in General
Because of the quotes you put around it. This season will have the stink of the lockout on it. I think it's a good idea to give Nick the send off he deserves and not have it happen in this mess of a shortened season. -
hundreds of pages of this crap wasn't enough for you guys? The lockout is over. If you want to continue the same argument you've been having with each other for months now, take it to PMs.

Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun NHL releases sked once: 1) players ratify deal Sat; 2) CBA Memo of Understanding is signed off on by both sides _ that could be Sat or Sun
-
As much as I dislike him, I'd take Perry. I'm not sure about Getzlaf though. Talented player for sure but he gets a lot of grief from fans for taking nights off and not working hard every shift (sounds strangely familiar). After shopping Bobby Ryan several times now, I also wonder if the Ducks would finally commit to dealing him.

Would you trade Jimmy Howard for an elite forward/defenseman?
haroldsnepsts replied to shoobiedoobin's topic in General
That's pretty much how I feel. Theoretically, absolutely I would for a truly elite player. Jimmy is good but not elite so that trade would be a win for the Wings. But i can't imagine what trade there'd be for an elite forward or d-man that would only involve Howard. -
Detroit Listed as a Bandwagon Fan Base
haroldsnepsts replied to ZachPariseisMyDaddy's topic in General
That's what I've always said. Detroit is a great hockey market but it's not really Hockeytown (any more than other great hockey cities). It's definitely footballtown though because the Lions have been awful for decades and fans still faithfully go to games and watch them on tv. Whereas when the Wings were awful long long ago, Joe Louis was empty. -
Updates from Board of Governors vote: Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun Source: vote was 30-0 Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun Bettman apologizes for the lockout. "I'm sorry." Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun NHL and NHLPA still haven't completed drafting CBA Memo of Understanding. Haven't signed off yet on trade deadline, free agency for this yr Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun Asked Bettman about his future during the newser and he made it clear he's not planning on going anywhere...

It may be because this will be sort of a last hurrah for the guys playing over there, getting to say farewell to the fans. Whereas the all star game in the NHL means you don't get precious days off in the middle of a grueling season.
