  1. At this point I'd take all tweets with a grain of salt and really only listen to well established sources. Even they didn't know the federal arbitrators were involved until recently, so information is pretty clearly locked down tight. Most everything else is speculation.

Which players will get bought out?

I just had a question regarding guys like Pronger, and Savard because I can't remember how it works at the moment. Since these guys are out with concussions aren't they on the long term injured reserve and don't count against the cap? Penner really redeemed himself in the playoffs for LA but has not earned his contract otherwise, so it'll be interesting to see what they do with him. And Mitchell was probably their best D-man in the playoffs. Honestly Penner only has one more year on his deal so I'd be surprised if the Kings did anything with either of those two. I'd think they'd just let them play out their contracts. Though if they wanted to wiggle out of their Richards or Carter deals, this would be the time. That seems unlikely though too. Maybe Carter.

Which players will get bought out?

Doesn't Dipietro still have something like 7 or 8 years left on his contract? The islanders could finally get out of yet another awful deal they made. The funny part is they'll still be paying for the Yashin buyout through 2015.

    Holland booed off Ford Field

I'm pretty sure that rule change is specifically regarding CBA negotiations. Where if Bettman does not want to accept an offer from the NHLPA, it takes 23 owners voting to overrule him and accept the offer. That isn't the same thing as him being able to pass any legislation he wants. I'm guessing any new rule changes still have to be approved by the BOG. And from what kipwinger linked to it looks like they only need a simple majority if they have enough owners at the meeting.
  5. Just came here to post that. And there's a pretty funny trend going on now called #DregerFace from his expression in a pic Lebrun tweeted. Bored hockey fans are taking it and running with it.
  6. Per the warning post listed in the thread title, I've deleted a few more posts. Again, please keep the conversation relevant to the CBA negotiations. Everyone who's participated in the thread to this point has made it abundantly clear how they feel about Bettman, Fehr, etc. Here's the warning post again so people don't have to hunt back to #70

    List of Divers

I agree with what you're saying, but as Johnz96 points out, it's just too hard to determine during game play at times. So it's certainly not a perfect solution, but hitting them with increasing fines after each infraction and then a suspension seems like it could help. And the video review would make it a lot harder to argue that it wasn't a dive because it wasn't based on some refs viewpoint at the time. Shanny could even release one of his videos reviewing the dive and stating the fine to that player.

    Holland booed off Ford Field

I haven't seen anything substantiating the Wings position regarding the lockout, but you'd have to think they weren't happy about it. Ilitch was running a successful franchise even in the pre-cap era. Then he continued to do so under this last CBA. The more restrictive the CBA gets regarding player contracts and cap, the harder it will be for the Wings to use that financial success as a competitive advantage. I can't imagine Ilitch and Holland wanting a more level playing field, and certainly not losing half a season to get it.
  9. Agreed. I understand the owners wanting more teams in the playoffs because it would make them more money, but it'd be almost as bad as the 80s when all but 5 teams made the playoffs.

    Holland booed off Ford Field

Agreed. Though I'm still a little surprised he got booed. Obviously Holland has no role in this other than working for the Wings. Fans are really pissed. Good. I hope they stay away for a while and send a message that this is not an effective strategy.

    List of Divers

Yes the league should crack down on divers, but it happens so fast I don't know that you can rely on refs to handle it in games. I think the best way is to have a video official reviewing questionable plays after a game. The on ice refs could even let them know which plays they want looked at it. But even then only the most extreme cases will get punished. The stick not actually hitting Carcillo's face. Kesler's ridiculous flop. Fining those guys even after games though should help. They embarrass the refs and league with their antics, so they should be publicly embarrassed too.

1995 vs 2009 Red Wings squads

lol @ you thinking his argument has no anchor in reality when it is based on playing the actual games. Yours on the other hand has little anchor in reality as it is the one based primarily on your own opinion of who is better. So since his actually happened, it literally makes a lot of sense. In your fictional example, yes the Devils were the better team. Because they won. On the ice. In reality. Where the game is actually played. As to why they won, of course injuries play a factor. Just like they do when the Wings win. It seems like the Kings would've been better if they were healthy, but who knows? We'll never know because that's not what happened. What we do know was the Devils won. The Stanley Cup isn't won by who has the best team on paper or on your theories as to who is better. It's won on the ice.
  13. Ward's twitter: The lawyers and financial people spending this long on the details seems new compared to earlier proposals.

Players That Never Played in Detroit

The list is heavily skewed towards guys I've wanted in the last few years. I'm sure there's many more. Pavel Bure Jamal Mayers Teemu Selanne Martin Brodeur - largely because I got sick of the goalie carousel in Detroit, though I've liked him less over the years. But he's a great goalie and a workhorse. Chris Pronger You heard me. Chris mother f-in Pronger. A top pairing of Lidstrom and Pronger? Who wouldn't want that?

1995 vs 2009 Red Wings squads

Agreed. Though I've been through this argument before and not everyone sees it that way. When the Wings win I never hear it the other way from people here, that they got help on a few calls, that they were fortunate because the other team was so injured. Like how this should've been a penalty shot in game 1: over the course of a 7 game series most of the calls even out, and the injuries are just part of the game. @RedWingsDad you should be able to just paste the link and it will embed the link automatically.

Top 20 most valuable Red Wings players since 2002

I think a lot of the rankings are up for debate except number 1. If we're talking about since 2002, I can't think of an argument that would put any player over Nick Lidstrom (especially considering he won 6 Norris trophies during that span).
  17. per Ward's twitter: It's sounding like just getting all the details on this offer is going to take a while, then presenting to players, then counteroffer/negotiations. So I'm guessing there won't be a response from the NHLPA for a couple days maybe?
  18. That's what's so strange about his hawkishness. Those 6 teams are a small piece of his overall business, but it still has to take a good chunk out of it.
  19. Among the most successful, definitely. Most powerful? It doesn't seem like it. Jacobs is the chairman of the board of governors and it sounds like he has been in on virtually every negotiating session for the CBA. His primary business is running a concessions company that services 6 NHL teams and several other pro arenas, like Comerica Park, so some NHL owners like Ilitch have extra incentive to play nice with him. http://www.delawarenorth.com/sportservice-partners.aspx If I were going to pick the most powerful owner in the NHL, it'd be Jacobs.
  20. NHL officially confirms it delivered a proposal to the NHLPA yesterday. They were supposed to have a conference call today at 11 to discuss further. I haven't heard any details or confirmation if that happened. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=412368
