Mule's size is irrelevant since he rarely uses it. It's like saying the Wings could really use Kindl's size. I haven't heard any specific update about Cole. When it happened they were speculating it could be a nerve in his shoulder. He kind of got his head jammed up.

he's not exactly great at skating heads up with the puck. Though he's lucky he didn't get called for closing his hand on the puck too. It seemed like he carried it from center ice to the blueline. With Dubnyk not even realizing he made the save it makes for a pretty craptacular sequence.

He's gone missing? It's been two games since he had a goal and an assist. His production has come down a little but he's still playing well and generating chances, moreso than a lot of guys on the team.

Why does it have to be an American city? And to be clear my main issue isn't so much that I think it's technically inaccurate, it's that I think it's cheesy and a little gross. There's several cities who love hockey as much or possibly more than Detroit. If the Rangers or Bruins had dubbed themselves Hockeytown™ and trademarked it, we'd all probably make fun of them for it. If the Wings go through a downturn it's gonna be awkward to see that logo at center ice with all the empty seats in the stands. Maybe they won't repaint it in the new arena.

Cole was playing well before he got injured. The line with Abby, him and Z had been one of our best. Isn't a pinched nerve in his shoulder or something like it? Unfortunately that's a hard one to predict when you'll be back in the lineup. As for Franzen, yeah, I think he's basically done. At least for this year. the team has fared well without him though. It almost seems that way. I think they've both played well but didn't the tailspin start right around the trade deadline? On paper this team is better, but they start playing like crap. Except for an odd game or so like against Tampa where they play like a legit Cup contender. So strange.

I think the most important question for the upcoming games is how many guys will the Wings be playing who have yet to score their first NHL goal? Or are in a major goal scoring slump? If it's not many, I like our chances.

I think they need to remove the logo not because of the mediocre team, but because it's kind of cheesy and a misnomer. If the Red Wings miss the playoffs even one year the attendance will probably plummet. If they missed a couple years in a row? Even worse. The Lions have lost for decades but fans keep coming. Hockey is popular here but this is footballtown, not hockeytown. The Maple Leafs have made the playoffs once in the last 9 years, and that one time they did lost in the first round in brutal fashion. The Wings are in a tailspin at the moment, but let's have some perspective here. We are nowhere near the level of the circus that has been the Maple Leafs.

It's not totally surprising given the different ways they play the game. Datsyuk largely succeeds by slowing the game down, making people miss. His ability to undress people backs them off. Even defensively, he's more of a pickpocket than anything else. Zetterberg both offensively and defensively seems to succeed by sheer will. He's obviously skilled and crafty, but he protects the puck more by battling through guys. Scores by going to the hard areas of the ice. It's part of why he's been so successful in the playoffs. And defensively he's physically all over the other player. Hopefully he's just slumping in the goal scoring department. It's hard to know when he's injured because his skating style so often looks labored. He is leading the team in points so it's not like he's having a horrible year. Actually looking back at the last several years his production is not that far off what he's been doing. He's just been quiet when the team could really use him.

The second and third goal were unbelievable. Second one the entire team puck gazing, then the brutal softie by Mrazek. If I saw that happen to a team that was out of the playoffs I'd say it's proof they're tanking.

This run up to the playoffs is the exact opposite of last year. It's bizarre.

Given how crappily the Wings lost that game, I have to say I'm surprised how mellow it is here in the GDT. Everyone being pretty civil. The Wings are melting down more than this forum right now. Z is still above 50% on faceoffs for the season, but it does seem like he's been on the losing end the last couple months. The whole team has really. He still does an impressive job hanging on to the puck in traffic but he does look so labored out there. I don't know if it's injury, or age, or what, but it's depressing to see.

He's done the exact same but with 5 games left it seems like the best thing is to get your starter going and hope he finds his game, rather than relying on a 23 year old who hasn't shown consistency in the NHL yet. I like Mrazek, but the kid is showing he's not ready yet.

Agreed. This team is definitely rattled. Once they gave up that PP goal, they played like a completely different (and terrible) team for the rest of the game.

They have to start Howard next game. Obviously he's been struggling too but if someone is going to step up and play consistent hockey you'd hope it'd be the veteran. And the Wings desperately need to right the ship.
