I like Flip but if you're told your entire NHL career by two different teams that you need to shoot the puck more, at some point you think you'd actually do it. Flip has 89 shots on goal for the year. On the Wings that puts him about equal to Kyle Quincey who has 87. Drew Miller has 90.

I don't think of Buff as this kind of player, but this is one of the more vicious crosschecks I've seen in a while. Right to the back of Miller's neck. The better replay is at the very end of the YT. He got 4 games. More than I thought he'd get, but not as many as he deserved. Though honestly given Miller was ok, the Jets are trying to make the playoffs and Byfuglien is a huge part of that, 4 games is actually pretty good given what the league typically does. It shows just how dangerous they must've thought this crosscheck was. -
2011 playoffs. He was suspended 2 games for it.

Interesting. I guess the key question is what constitutes "rate of concussions?" Because I find it extremely hard to believe that taken in total, hockey generates more concussions than football.

I'd be okay with trading any of those guys. Kindl certainly doesn't belong on the team, but any one of Ericsson, Smith and Quincey could be serviceable. They're just overextended on a thin blueline. If you get E off the top pairing he could be a solid stay at home guy and good penalty killer. Quincey has been surprisingly consistent. Smith continues to baffle though. Has a good skillset but I guess just doesn't have it between the ears to play at that level every night?

Nothing like a bad game to reveal who everyone's personal whipping boy is. It's Mrazek's fault! Howard's fault! Ericsson's! No Andersson! No Babcock! Where's that Cleary guy?!

I think the Wings defenseman have just figured out how to backpedal with the puck to avoid getting your shot or pass blocked. Kronner is the only one who regularly does it, but I've seen DK and Ericsson do it a couple times this game alone.

That's the craziest part. The Isles defense and Halak have not exactly been stellar either.

Would you rather he came really far out to play the angle, gave up a rebound, then had it slammed in the empty net like Mrazek did earlier? Trying to point out Howard's flaws after Mrazek's performance this game is a bad strategy.

Ericsson needs to grab someone smaller than him and just start throwing haymakers. Have something interesting come out of this game.

Agreed. I think young teams are more prone to inconsistent play, but the difference between yesterday and today is mind boggling.

I agree that a Carey Price like goalie would be a massive improvement, but they're extremely hard to come by. And Holland's philosophy has generally been using a value goaltender who's "good enough" so he can spend money elsewhere. The difference these days is there's no Lidstrom on the blueline and that money isn't really getting spent elsewhere.
