Smith also threw his stick in the direction of the refs after letting in the series winning goal. Not like an overhand throw or anything, but still a bitchy little toss right towards the refs. You can see it around the 2:53 mark. http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip684457#clip684457 Like I said, I hate the Coyotes more now that the series is over than I did during.

    Congratulations to the LA Kings

Man did this team get it together at the right time. Thank you Darryl Sutter! I thought a guy like Doughty would need a veteran defensive partner like he had in O'Donnell to really settle him down and help with his maturity, but it should've occurred to me that a head coach can do that too. No matter what happens from here on out this is already an awesome postseason for the Kings. But they've been so good and it's so hard to get this close, here's hoping they win it all.

Yandle crying about the refs too. Saying "I know they (the refs) wear the same color as the Kings but they didn't have to play for them tonight." (don't have a link but it was on NHL tonight). I dislike Phoenix now that the series is over more than I did during the actual games.

Series winning goal and handshake line. I love Richards pushing Brown and telling him to keep going when Hanzal is yapping at him.

Smith thinks Brown should be suspended forever for his hit. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/05/23/smith-on-brown-if-raffi-torres-gets-25-games-then-he-ought-to-be-out-forever/ Smith has the composure and maturity of a teenage girl.

Smith and Doan both got ten minute misconducts for their antics at the end of the game.

Agreed. That was one of the craziest OT's I've seen. And Doan is a POS.

It's funny that he of all people is upset over a questionable hit. Brown made good hard shoulder contact and didn't change his leg position. Tough hit, not ideal, but get over it. Smith with the slash after the series winning goal by Penner. It's nice to see him lose.

That's what I'm afraid of. After the first I think the Kings have still had plenty of chances and controlled play, but man the Coyotes just keep getting good bounces. Their three goals tonight were a PP goal on a soft penalty call that deflected off their player. The 2nd was an own goal by Voynov. Third was off Scuderi's stick and then Yandle's leg and in. It's so frustrating to watch (as a Kings fan).

Phoenix should've been on the PK on that last goal but the refs swallowed the whistles. Even Pang and Strader pointed out three huge non-calls against the Yotes. Kings need to finish them now before Phoenix gets even more confidence.

let's see if that goal kills the Coyotes confidence a bit.

Coyotes are definitely all over the Kings right now. They could be up by a few goals if not for Quick. Another shortie!! Wow. What a redirection from Kopitar.

poop. Yotes capitalize again on a PP from a very weak call.

    The truth of our decline.

I'll repeat my warning. Discuss the content of the posts, not the people posting it. Next time I have to clean up the thread I start handing out suspensions/permabans. C'mon people, it's the offseason and you're seriously going to make me go all mod on you?

Illitch "definitely committed" to new downtown arena

I'm guessing those 2000 less seats are made up for (financially anyway) in more box seats.

Illitch "definitely committed" to new downtown arena

Having watched a ton of games at the Joe in the 80s and 90s, I thought maybe they should just look into trying to renovate or revitalize it. Then I watched a game at the Staples Center and thought "Tear the Joe down now!!!" Nostalgia aside, the Joe is a dump. Architecturally ugly, geographically poorly positioned. While I don't think Wings fans will need all the bells and whistles to keep the crowd entertained during tv timeouts and the like, having multiple floors with multiple levels of of concessions and bathrooms makes a HUGE difference. You'll actually be able to buy a beer or take a leak without missing half the game.

Oof. Scuderi deflects one into his own net. 2-0 Yotes.

Yotes score from a PP on an awful penalty call. It's like any time Smith touches someone, it's a penalty on that player.

    LA Kings as a model?

AGreed. I didn't respond to that post because I wasn't even sure the guy was thinking of the right player. This year in LA everyone struggled offensively, but I think he's still a 40 point guy. That's something Abby hasn't managed yet. He's good in the faceoff circle, is their #1 forward on the PK this postseason. Can play the power play. Hits. Stoll was the second line center until they brought in Richards last season. Here's a pretty good piece on him from ESPN http://espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs/2012/story/_/id/7944286/los-angeles-kings-jarret-stoll-contributing-roll Maybe one day Abby will develop into that kind of player, but right now there's no way he's better than Stoll.

    LA Kings as a model?

Penner has become a completely different player under Sutter. He's working hard every night, using his size. He has 2 goals and 8 points in 12 games. I don't know what the Kings will do with him this offseason, but he's playing great right now. In terms of standings, they were never one of the worst teams in the league. They were just one of the worst teams in the league at scoring goals and had to be held in games by Quick. They were 29th in the league in Goals For and still made the playoffs. That's a pretty good defensive team for that to happen. As I said in the other thread, once they brought in Sutter, traded for Carter, and called up King and Nolan, the Kings offensive woes got a lot better while remaining just as solid defensively. They're the 8th seed, but in the last part of the season they were playing much better than an 8th seed and finally realizing the potential they had all season.
