#8 Los Angeles Kings vs. #2 St. Louis Blues
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
As someone who's a Wings and Kings fan (Wings first of course, but Kings a close second) I love watching the Kings because it's a style of hockey I'd love for the Wings to be able to play someday soon, now that they don't have enough high end talent to rely completely on puck possession. The Kings are hard hitting, great defensively, incredible goaltending, and while I don't know that they have a fighter who strikes fear in the heart of people, they have so many guys in the lineup that will drop the gloves if necessary. Including now Kopitar after Burrows went after him like the ***** that he is. And the team is so friggin young it's crazy. I don't know how many people realize that while Brown has been on the Kings for 7 seasons now, he's only 27 years old. And I keep forgetting Kopitar is only 24. Quick is 26. Doughty is only 22. And Voynov is logging 17+ minutes a game in the playoffs as a 22 year old rookie. It's fun to see. On the Wings Holland would still have these guys stuck in the AHL. -

SWEEP! Quick >>>>>> Elliott -
You may not think he's capable of that role, but whether he is or not it was a pretty clear move by Holland to try and replace Stuart. It's not going to be an after the fact excuse when Stuart leaves. That was the intent from the beginning. How is Quincey not a top four D-man? He wasn't great in his return to Detroit, but he's played top 4 minutes every team he's played on since he left.

I'm guessing you wanted Maltby out of the league for the way he compromised the sport too. And how many Kings games have you watched this season? That's the Sharks you're thinking of about perfecting the boarding call. Couture and a few other guys would get touched from behind and crumple into the boards as they throw their head back. Like I said, he does flop and it's embarrassing and frustrating. But that's only a small part of his game. He's hardly like Kesler out there. More often he's like Maltby. Agitating guys and perfectly willing to take a punch in the face if he thinks it'll draw a penalty. You're wrong if you think Brown's not tough at all. He's not really a fighter but unlike Kronwall he will drop the gloves if someone goes after him for a hit they don't like. This playoffs he's been an absolute beast. He had two shorthanded goals in the same game against the Canucks. Was hitting everything on the ice. Crushed Henrik Sedin. Same way against the Blues. He's been a force out there. Killing penalties, plays the PP. Love him or hate him, if the Kings go deep he's absolutely a Conn Smythe candidate. -
Holland loses a decent young middle pairing defenseman for nothing by putting him on waivers. Now at the deadline Holland uses a first round pick to get back that decent middle pairing defenseman that he put on waivers. I don't see a contradiction in people being upset with both those things.

Brown dives, but he hardly flops like the Sedins. I hate when he flops, but I have no problem with him getting into it with a guy and getting knocked down with a crosscheck as he doesn't retaliate. -

If they made it to the finals honestly Brown would be an equally good candidate. They've both been awesome. Brown is so in the Blues head right now. He draws penalty like Maltby used to. Totally willing to take a crosscheck or a punch to the face in order to get his team a power play. He's driving them crazy, throwing big hits, and scoring. -

It definitely is looking like a good trade, which is good because I'm still bummed Simmonds is no longer on the Kings. Such a great young player. And honestly the team got better without Jack Johnson, though the Carter trade has hardly paid off so far. Richards had the Gordie Howe hat trick last night, by the way. -

Predators bench Radulov and A. Kostitsyn for Game 3 of WCSF
haroldsnepsts replied to edicius's topic in General
I hope he does too. He ran to the KHL for more money while under contract with the Preds, then upon his return for the playoffs, he's living it up past curfew the night before a 2nd round playoff game. Keep up the good work. I bet your teammates really respect you and love playing with you. -
Agreed. Like him or not, I think Quincey is probably here next season. He certainly wasn't great, but I'm holding out hope he could be a decent middle pairing guy next season. A sort of Stuart replacement. All I can say is Smith better be in the lineup next year, even if it means putting Kindl on waivers.
-
Agreed. Add to that losing Helm and Eaves and our bottom six completely crumbles.

Sometime during one of the intermissions they were talking about how much better the Preds are playing and Roenick agreed saying "you remove the cancer and let the body start to heal." -

Definitely two fortunate bounces, but a goals a goal. Smith should get the assist on both of them though. The second one was a really unfortunate bounce, but on the first, I don't know what he was thinking coming out to play the puck. He had a teammate right there to get it, and instead he whips it around the boards. Stupid, stupid play. Good game by Nashville though to hold on to that lead. If they keep playing like that we may have a series. -
it also could mean that in the new cba negotiations now that they have their cap, the owners will crank down harder for an even bigger piece of the pie.

Blues goon it up, but Kings win!! refs were too. I still don't get how Perron doesn't get third man in. It's probably only the second time they've ever seen the Kings play, so they're probably hard to root for. -

I want to believe, but to go deep they really need to get their PP going. In the playoffs I seriously think they have more goals on their PK (4) than they do on the PP. -

1-0 Kings 30 seconds in. -
Rinne played very well, but I do think he was getting more credit than he probably deserved. I don't remember him stealing a game or even a period like Quick did for LA in the first game against the Blues. As I said in another thread, he was leaving some juicy rebounds lying around but the Predators did a great job cleaning it up for him and keeping the Wings out of the area.

It's so frustrating to watch. But Phoenix does what Detroit wouldn't. They go to the net hard and score the ugly goals you need come playoff time. Look at where all their goals were scored last night. Minus the empty netter they're all right in the crease/slot area. Same with the first game. they're all scored within like 10 or 15 feet of the net, not wrist shots from along the boards. The Wings offense depends on a great skill play to score a goal as they maintain puck control along the boards. When that gets shut down, they don't have the ability or willingness to go the middle of the rink, other than on an individual effort by Datsyuk or Zetterberg. It's not that Rinne is playing that much worse than he did in the first round. It's that the Coyotes have actually put him under fire. He was giving up juicy rebounds against the Wings but there were three Nashville players there to clear the puck before any Wings player was even close. -

That one I remember. And Nucks fans wonder why other fans love seeing Vancouver fail. Way to focus on the right things Canucks. Stay classy. -

He seriously did that after the Canucks won the game? Is that out of context or something or is he that big of a ******? -

ok apparently I was wrong about the Blues not giving up a shortie. Greene got the goal but it was Brown's speed that did it. And Greene and Kopitar were sitting right in front of the net to hammer at the rebound. Quick has once again kept the Kings in a game. And now their counterattacks are paying off, in spite of being outplayed by the Blues for a lot of the game. -

Unfortunately, this. The way the Wings play sometimes, I don't think they even have to zamboni the middle part of the offensive zone.
