#5 Philadelphia Flyers vs. #4 Pittsburgh Penguins
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Honestly I couldn't believe he didn't get a penalty. Bryz had the puck clearly frozen under his glove and Crosby took not one but like three good hard whacks at his hand. -
Brown took a big hit in the corner. Totally clean, nice hard hit. Got back up, skated to the net and scored the winning goal. Like I said, hockey is a tough sport. You should be able to take a legal hit without your teammates mugging guys.
-
Exactly. And that part has always been. Take a run at Yzerman and you'd be having a conversation with Probert. But star players aside, guys were expected to handle a big legal hit. It's part of the game. A great part.

There may be times I'm not thinking of honestly but I feel like the Wings leadership generally talks about what they need to do differently and is fairly respectful of the other team. Not so much out of being classy or anything as just not giving them any fodder to fire them up. I can see Sedin thinking things like that, but it seems like something you tell your teammates in a team meeting, not say to the press.
-
He was standing in front of his own bench when he got crushed. Did none of his teammates yell heads up?? When you see Brown skating towards your teammate you pretty much know how it's going to end.

This. People complain about the league trying to take hitting out of the game, but fighting after clean hits is trying to eliminate it just as much, if not more. And I don't care what people claim, it has not always been this way. There was more fighting in general in the 80s and 90s but if a guy got crushed with a good clean hit, his teammates took a number and would get him with a hit later. Or they'd start trying to hit the other teams star player. But there wasn't this throwing off the gloves and jumping a guy just because he hit your teammate hard. The league needs to crack down. Not only to keep hitting in the game, but part of the advantage of a huge hit is it separates a player from the puck and takes him out of the play. The team throwing the hit often doesn't get that advantage because of the ensuing mugging by his teammates. Hockey is a tough sport. Don't want to get hit? Keep your head up. By "do that stuff" you basically mean "play hockey."

James Neal to have rare double hearing with Shanny today. Asham to follow with an in-person meeting. Very busy day for Shanahan. -

Quick and Brown were in beast mode tonight. Kings were greatly outplayed for the first half of the game. -

It just shows how rattled the Flyers have him. Instead of focusing on his team and being calm and showing leadership, he adds fuel to the fire. And every time the Pens engage in that type of stuff they lose. -

yup. And he basically skated over to Kopi and just started a fight randomly. Kopitar finally threw off the gloves and started swinging. I don't get why Canucks fans are confused as to why so many people hate their team. -

Kesler with another beaut of a dive. I can't believe I used to like him as a player. I thought he'd mature. -

Brown destroyed H Sedin. Prior to that Kesler loses a faceoff to Richards and then spears him in the nuts. -

Kings weathered the storm in the first period. Looked outmatched for the first half but slowly came around and got a few good chances. Quick with some huge saves though to keep the score at zero. -

The officiating has been a joke this season, and it's being reflected in how many of these games are getting out of control. -
with the cap room Holland had this season and star players like Dats Z and Mule not getting any younger, this season should've been the last hurrah type situation.

I'm just afraid Babcock will be the casualty before any of the big changes they need to make. -

lack or production aside, he's just seemed uncharacteristically easy to knock off the puck. That's not how he's been this year. -
Lids will go out on his terms, especially because I don't think he'll hang around too long when his level of play clearly drops.

Carkner with the massive suckerpunch on Boyle and then continuing to pound away when he's on the ice. What a POS. I kind of can't believe it but I think Shanny has lost control of things here. He may be doing an even worse job than that idiot Campbell. EDIT: Honestly that's probably pinning too much of it on Shanny, though his inconsistency isn't helping. But when the players feel like the refs and the league aren't capable of handling things, they'll try to take care of it themselves. -

Holy crap that's a late hit. I wish I had seen this game.
