Franzen has looked like Primeau out there tonight. Great looking play until he blows a tire and falls down. And the refs are definitely gearing up for the playoffs. It's not as bad as pre-lockout but there's an awful lot of hooking going on out there.

As much as I think Nyquist deserves to be playing on a better line, him on the 4th at least gives that line a chance of doing something on their shift.

For some people it was the last thing they could use to knock Ericsson once he started playing better. It used to be that he sucked. Then they'd begrudgingly admit that maybe he isn't that terrible, but he's still overpaid.

Trolling 101: when your argument is running thin, try and make it sound like the other guy is getting all bent out of shape while you're just having a lighthearted discussion. Actually I've said several times it could've been a two minute penalty. You still don't seem to get it, just because we won't agree to the 4 minutes you're suggesting, or the ridiculous 5 and a game. If the refs don't see conclusively that it was a crosscheck that drew the blood, they can't call a 4 minute penalty. On the replay it's a gloved punch where the stick may have contacted Backes face before he dove. It probably did. But that's not the same as seeing the stick infraction and being able to call a penalty. But we're the ones that are like talking to a wall.

Here's the question: So Jeremy Ruthford can determine factually what would've happened in totally fictional situations?? Otherwise it just sounds like you asked a Blues writer to speculate on your leading question (how many game suspended?) and hopefully agree with you. And even he thinks it should've just been 2 minutes for roughing.

Milbury doesn't work for the NHL so they can't fine him. And I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that Bettman told him to apologize. Most likely someone at NBC told him that, true as it may be, they thought he went too far. Or maybe Milbury decided it on his own? Though that seems highly unlikely.

I don't recall saying it shouldn't have been a penalty. And I already stated, if Backes had done that to Dats. Datsyuk would've stayed on his skates and likely come right back at him. Franzen probably should've gotten 2 minutes for roughing for his gloved punch. Maybe the refs decided not to give anything because of Backes' diving. Who knows. It's not like Backes had anything to fear going back at Franzen. It's not like Mule would've dropped the gloves and fought. Instead Backes held on to his stick and then dove when Franzen came at him. Maybe he's hoping to play for Vancouver one day? The game had a playoff like atmosphere. Other than the blown call on Reaves (which led to the Blues first goal by the way), the refs let 'em play both ways. Like Steen taking Kronwall down by the throat? The refs had a pretty good look at that one. If you're that bent out of shape about last night, you're really not going to like the playoffs.

It's really just Olczyk. I can't believe they have him doing national games. His bias for the Pens and Hawks is pretty obvious. And I'm talking about games where they're not even playing the Wings. And during Wings games he honestly does refer to the Wings "subtle interference" at least once a game, and points out penalties that should've been called on the Wings. I think Doc is great. And McGuire is well, McGuire.

Posting this here because I don't think it warrants it's own thread, but the Kings play the first of their two games against San Jose tonight. I'm a Kings fan too so I'm rooting for them, but keeping the Sharks out of the playoffs would be icing on the cake.

I love Backes' head jerk after Franzen punches him when he's on the ice. It looked like professional wrestling out there. I was waiting for the ref to turn his back while Franzen went and grabbed a folding chair, or climbed up on the dasher.

I don't really follow the Devils but it seems like even when they're very good, they still have trouble filling seats.
