Just Say 'No' to Mikael Samuelsson

I don't know that I'd want him back necessarily, but Sammy was a huge bargain for Detroit when he played here.

    Carter to LA

The Kings had been dangling Johnson for a while, but I'm still a little surprised at this trade. They're having extreme offense problems, so they trade away their most talented offensive defenseman. He was a disaster with his decision-making at times, but he's only 25. I think they're really high on this Voynov kid and think they didn't need him. As for Brown, I'd be surprised if they traded away their captain. That's a desperate move by Lombardi. He's a good energy player, can score, good hitter. The only thing I don't like is he dives. Honestly Kopitar should be the captain of that team. The Kings remain in need of true veteran leadership. And aside from Ericsson's NTC that everyone conveniently ignores, they Kings are pretty damn set for Dmen.

2/23 GDT : Canucks 4 at Red Wings 3 (SO)

It's always great to have fans of other teams here, to get a different and admittedly less homer perspective. That's as long as they're not overly antagonistic and trolling. So this is a polite and pre-emptive play nice in the GDT to everyone. The Canucks fans are welcome here as long as they don't troll. Let's just keep it within the forum guidelines about the game and hockey in general. consider this a friendly warning from the ref before you end up in the box.

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)

I keep forgetting that Quincey is a RFA. That definitely makes the deal better.

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)

Exactly. If memory serves, it was bringing back Chelios for another year that forced the Wings into making this premature decision with Quincey and Meech. And Chelios ended up not playing much that season anyway. He stuck around a year too long. He's a little more offensively talented but pretty much nothing. Other than the hope that his game is still improving. Every game I've seen Commie play he's done exactly what you'd expect him to do. Be a physical bottom pairing guy who plays a fairly simple defensive game.

Alright, time to call Nyquist up

Right. 11 goals, 27 points. one each less than Bert. plus Cleary plays on the PK. And tonight coming back after a knee injury. He may not be having a career year, but he's hardly s***.

    2/21 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Blackhawks 2

In spite of all the blame he gets around here, the Wings would still be a better team with Ericsson and Quincey in the lineup as the bottom pair than they would with Kindl Quincey.

The point he was making is how bizarre it was that Chicago fans would chant that when they just won the friggin Cup. It would've at least made some lick of sense had they played Detroit in the Conference finals or something. The fact that they didn't made it an even weirder thing to chant when your team just won the Cup.

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)

There's always that chance, but Kindl at least has gotten almost 100 games on the Wings for them to evaluate him. Quincey got what less than 30? Kindl should be much more of a known quantity. I had forgotten because he hasn't been here in a few seasons, but even if Kindl turns out to be as good of a player, Quincey is only a year older than Kindl. Plus we haven't gotten rid of Kindl yet or anything, though it seems unlikely he'll play much now.

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)

You can't see how both of those are still valid? I don't know that I would even say he was THE gaffe. But clearly they were off in their evaluation of their young defenseman at that point. But that's not to say I thought Quincey was some absolute awesome defenseman the Wings had to get back. Like I said, I'm just meh. He's an upgrade over Kindl for sure. Can kill penalties. Plays on the PP. The move definitely improved our defense.

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)

Quincey did not magically transform into a 20 min a night defenseman overnight, and Meech is no longer playing in the NHL. Clearly the Wings staff were off in their evaluations of both of them.

Kyle Quincey traded to Detroit in 3 team trade (TBL & COL)

Agreed. It's unfortunate Detroit had to give up a first round pick for a mistake they made a few years ago and because of the disappointing play of their first round pick in Kindl.

    Has Ovechkin Passed His Prime?

Well said. I think that's the heart of it right there.

    Has Ovechkin Passed His Prime?

At 26, I doubt he's past his prime. But it seems like he has a terrible attitude and work ethic, especially for a captain. From the outside it looks like when things stop coming easily to him, he either stops caring or stops working hard or both. It must be frustrating to be a Caps fan and have to watch two incredibly talented players like Ovie and Semin sulking and screwing around instead of manning up. It's like Fedorov on his bad nights, times two.

Canucks Vs Detroit in Motor City

Entertaining literary calisthenics? The fact of the matter is the game obviously means something to you. But you and your other Canucks friend still haven't acknowledged that these teams have played each other three times already this season. And even if Vancouver does win then it means they split the series with Detroit again this year. Yet this game somehow is the one that counts? You're right in that it's a matter of professional pride, just like it would be not to lose to Columbus. Because they're professional hockey players. They take professional pride in not losing hockey games. So far you're staying true to form for a Canucks fan. Condescendingly telling fans of other teams the "truth" about hockey and being so self involved that you can't imagine your own view of the hockey world isn't fact. The general subtext of your posts is that Vancouver is so special of course this game means a lot to Detroit and its fans. The reality for the Wings fans I know, is it just isn't. The vancouver games have made for some really entertaining regular season hockey, but it's still just another regular season game in the stretch run. I don't know if the Vancouver media somehow is playing this up to be a big deal or if it's your own creation, but it's getting comical. It's like in years past when the Blues would talk about the huge rivalry in Detroit, when to Wings fans it wasn't even in the top 5.

Canucks Vs Detroit in Motor City

They've played each other three times already this season! It may be important to (the generally condescending) Vancouver fans. Just being honest when saying I don't think most Wings fans don't see it as that big of a deal. It's one game in the season. That's not smug. The Wings haven't made it out of the second round in a couple years now. It's not that they dont' have anything to prove. It's just that they have to beat whoever is in front of them, whether it's the Preds, Nucks, Sharks... whoever. Honestly a Sharks game is a bigger deal because they are the team that's eliminated the Wings two years running now. As for being popular to crap on Vancouver, the players and fans bring that on themselves. The Canucks used to be one of my favorite teams in the early to mid 90s. My recent disdain for them comes comes from personal experience in real life at games combined with the idiots over at hfboards. Last year they basically made that place intolerable. And at games they made Philly fans look good natured. As for the actual team, they still have some players I like, but I can't get past all the diving that team does. The Sharks Nucks series was ridiculous, especially compared to Boston Tampa. Add to it garbage like finger biting, and they're just not a team I want to see win. But hey if you want to ignore the prior three games this season and build this one up to be something it's not, so be it.
  20. We're done. If you can't play nice, there will be timeouts coming. I'd rather spend my time here reading about hockey than cleaning up your bickering.

    freeredwings.tv stops streaming NHL games

I agree that the NHL needs to improve gamecenter and stop blocking out games for the NHL network, but thing is, the service he's providing is clearly illegal. If people can't afford it, it sucks but that's the way it goes. We all make choices as to what we will and won't spend money on. Stealing it to share with those who can't afford it doesn't make it any less illegal. There was a time not too long ago where if you didn't live in the Metro Detroit area, you just weren't able to watch Red Wings games. Gamecenter is far from perfect, but with that and Center Ice, there's a helluva lot more opportunity to watch the Wings game than there used to be.

Canucks Vs Detroit in Motor City

If Vancouver wins that means they will have split the regular season series with Detroit, just like last season. But somehow this game will be a touchstone for the season? makes sense. Detroit will and should just be focused on the two points. If you want to think it means something about the postseason, so be it. I'll just wait for the actual playoffs.

Because before the shootout it would've been a tie, thus ending the streak.

That's not the press, it's just some blog. And the guy even admits at the start that it's misdirected frustration. Next you're gonna tell me Flyers fans aren't nice?
  25. haroldsnepsts

Sharks May overcome your streak. Otherwise it would be a great game.

As far as trolling goes, it was pretty polite. And it's just one more reason why this forum is cooler than most. First overall in the league and a 23 game home win streak. I think us Wings fans can handle a little friendly ribbing, even if the message does sound like it was a text message from someone who speaks English about as well as Homer.
