People are pissed the Wings are getting blown out and venting. Your sarcasm and lectures only antagonize the situation. Everyone get back on topic about this crapfest of a game, please.

Man with this team takes the night off, they REALLY take the night off.

    Cooke Boards or Jackman Dives?

He did hit his face into the boards. It's not like that's going to feel good. But either he's embellishing or a drama queen with the legs flying up and holding his face that much, considering he looked fine not too much later when sitting on the bench.

Red Wings Pre-All Star Game MVP

To me it was more that Datsyuk just looked off for the first couple months of the season. Uncharacteristic turnovers that ended up in the back of the Wings net. He's been great since then, but Howard has been playing great and a steadying force as this team still runs hot or cold game to game.

    Bruins Fan Shoves Lightning Mascot

I love how in the comments section, someone says that it was a pathetic decision by Steve Yzerman or whoever it was. Do they really think the GM of the Lightning is responsible for the hiring and firing of mascots? The firing seems a little harsh unless there really were other factors. It was stupid to spray a fan in the face, but I'm guessing she wouldn't have done it again.

    1/23 GDT : Blues 1 at Red Wings 3

I'm sure Stuart would've preferred not to fight, but he's not going to turtle. It's about more than distance travelled. Stewart came off the bench and came right over to Stuart. He had no intention of doing anything but fighting.

Some of our better members here are from fans of other teams. It's always good to get perspective from fans of other teams, as long as they're not trolling. And realize that they need to play nice because they're in hostile territory. Agreed. Stuart may have technically dropped the gloves first, but Stewart clearly came over to challenge him to a fight. The Wing's Stuart isn't going to turtle, so he obliged. But Stewart (man this name thing is annoying) clearly instigated the fight. Him challenging Stuart was pretty much the textbook case for the instigator. Goalies typically get off lighter in situations like that. Howard had two Blues players jabbing at his head. To me the frustrating part is that Howie is among the most tenacious and physical Wing's players in those situations.

    Ovechkin hits Michalek

I know I've beat this drum before but I think the league needs to bring hitting back to how guys used to do it, without the "exploding up" because that's inevitably going to direct the energy towards a player's head. And I'm including many of Kronwall's hits in this category. Players didn't used to hit this way, but leaping up slowly became acceptable, when it probably should be a charge. It's not going to take hitting from the game. It's how it used to be done. Stevens and many other big hitters like Vladdy to name another, crushed guys without leaping at all. And Kronner could still Kronwall guys without leaping like that. He catches them with their head down when he sneaks in from the blueline, that's not going to change. It'll just help make sure he hits them in the chest and not the head. As for Ovie, when a player has as many reckless plays as he has, to me it crosses into being a dirty player.
  10. Why would Perry be on the second line? He certainly deserves first line time over anyone not named Datsyuk.

SI: Sidney Crosby to visit spine specialist in Calif.

It's tough hearing about what all these guys deal with day to day with concussions. Depression, migraines, light sensitivity, fatigue. Never knowing if tomorrow is going to be a good or bad day. I doubt it'll get much sympathy here but Pronger's wife was talking about what it's like for him. Having the kids ask him when they can go back to the games and watch him play.

They don't need x-rays, all they really need to do is google it. Rocket Richard Art Ross Pearson Hart Gold Medal Stanley Cup He annoys the s*** out of me, but that's a HOF-worthy resume he's racked up at the age of 24. If he never returns to the NHL, I have to wonder what he would've accomplished in the next 10 to 15 years of his career. .

1/21 GDT: Blue Jackets 2 at Red Wings 3 (SO)

Good point. It's easy to forget that the average is to score less than half the time. Before he left for the KHL Slava Kozlov was the king of the shootout. He went 27 for 46, or 57.8%.

    No suspension for Zetterberg

Guilty of what exactly? Guys put their hands on a player like that all the time as they ride him into the boards. There was no real shove to speak of. Just an unfortunate outcome. 5 and a game was too much punishment already. It'd be a joke if Z got any suspension, while Subban gets a little fine for a dangerous slewfoot on a player headed to the boards.

Mainly just that he sprayed him directly in the face as he was walking away. That's gonna come off as more than good natured teasing. Plus I'm guessing it wasn't hard to tell the Boston fan had already had a few. He's yapping at the mascot when he gets sprayed.

Somewhere online, I think in one of the comments, they were calling him P.K. Slewban.

    subban being shopped

Here's a vid of it. I found a better angle. slewfooting a guy as you're both headed to the boards is especially dangerous. Kunitz is lucky he didn't break an ankle. No thanks on Subban.

Agreed. Honestly if this happened to a Wings fan, I'd think it was kinda funny (aside from the d-bag tshirt). It's one thing to tease an opposing fan, but spraying him in the face is over the line, even if it's just silly string. They're both idiots.

    Transactions, Signings, and Minor Trades

I can't imagine why Kenny would even think of it. We certainly don't need him on D. There's no way he's in the lineup over Ericsson, Commodore, Kindl or even Smith. And he's not worth it as a forward.

    Cheap Shootout Techniques

It's an inherent problem with a fabricated event like the shootout. You end up having to split hairs about what's allowable or not. Several players, including Bert have scored on the spinorama where they're not only at a full stop, but they've run right into the goalie as they jam it in on the backhand (Bert's goal last night wasn't an example). To me, that's worse than coming to an almost complete stop like Kane did. What he did would just never happen in a game because someone would knock you into next week.

    Transactions, Signings, and Minor Trades

I love this quote from him: http://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/capitals/blue-jackets-radek-martinek-done-for-the-year-with-concussion-brett-lebda-signs-1-year-deal/2012/01/19/gIQATkjJCQ_story.html If he's solid positionally and making the good pass, then yes, I'd say his style has changed. His go to move used to be skate like hell up ice with the puck, taking himself way out of position, then panicking at the first player to come after him and coughing the puck up.

Agreed. Datsyuk got him doing the Luongo belly flop, but he bailed himself out by keeping the glove up and open.

    Fight During Postgame Handshake

Honestly I don't fault the refs. Maybe they' should've had an eye on things in the post game handshake more than they normally would, but I can't fault them for not anticipating the kid doing something that stupid. Glad he lost his A. He should definitely have some consequences from his coach and team if not the league.

    subban being shopped

The Primeau Probert fight is a bad example for your argument. I'm a huge fan, but Probert was a massive distraction with his substance abuse problems that spilled over into the locker room at times. And Primeau was a whiny underachiever for much of his time in Detroit. I haven't seen a Subban play a lot, but he seems talented and extremely immature. If Montreal really is shopping a promising 22 year old defenseman who's an RFA instead of working to sign him, I'd have to wonder exactly how big his issues are affecting the team.

Brad Stuart to the West Coast?

After reading this thread and thinking about the options, it seems like Holland's best bet would be to keep Stu and make the serious run this year, even assuming they lose him next year as a UFA. Because he would be a big hole in the blueline that you really don't want to try and replace headed into the playoffs.
