1/8 GDT : Red Wings 3 at Blackhawks 2 (OT)
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
There's no way the ref saw enough to warrant a penalty shot. Even on the replay it's hard to see how much Homer grabbed it.. And he didn't cover it in the crease because it came free. -

That's one of a few times I've seen Hudler peel off the man he was covering and leave him open. Big miscommunication with Z. -

STFU Olczyk. I'm sure it was the one hander by Hudler that took him out. Isn't Sharp who Kronwall hit? -

That's a good shot by Bert. Get it off fast and there was a juicy rebound. -

I picture Olczyk sitting in the broadcast booth in a Hawks jersey as he calls the game. -

There was a good example when a Hawks player (Brunette?) could've crushed Homer with an east west hit. Holmstrom was looking back to receive the pass as he left the zone. Instead he let it go, because he almost certainly would've clipped mostly Homer's head. Players can learn and there's still plenty of hitting left. -

Wings are losing all the puck battles. What happened to Stuart? -

Good on Miller for going from the corner to the front of the net like that. Franzen could learn a lesson from Kronwall and Miller. When Mule does go to the net like that he barrels guys over and often scores. -

THe replay shows what I didn't notice but Cleary throwing another friggin puck up the middle that gets picked off. then turns it over again. C'mon Danny. You may not be doing great offensively but you used to be smart defensively. -

That errant stick on the ice has been our best defensive player so far. -

I can't fault Conks for the second one. Sharp was in a high scoring area and had time to take a slapshot from the slot. That's on his teammates, not Conks. But the first one was weak. Then Toews able to skate down the middle and get off a nice shot. wtf? -

Little Hudler is too short to catch the fly ball and then tries the half assed stick swing to stop Sharp. Not a good start. -

I know it was blocked and then re-shot, but that's one Conks should've had. He was there positionally but it trickled right under his leg pad. -

Penalty on Ericsson. Broke the stick in half. I wish I could hear Mick complain about the sticks today instead of listening to McGuire and Oldick. -

Are they lighting the United Center with one floodlight? Or does it just look weirdly dark on Versus? I mean... NBC sports network... -

Agreed. Any predictions on how long it'll be before he start talking about how good detroit is at "subtle interference?" or maybe pointing out penalties that should've been called on Detroit. GAME ON! No brain farts like last night boys. Let's go! -
The Official NHL Suspension Thread

I'm no Marchand fan, but I don't think he was going after his knees or anything. He bailed out of a check and got too low, so he deserved the penalty he got. I think the 5 and a game is enough. But because it's a player with a questionable rep like Marchand, and he injured one of the Canucks few standup players in Salo, I could see him getting a couple. -
I've highlighted a couple key parts from the NHLPA's statement that shows the NHL definitely has a hand in this rejection of the realignment. I believe that's the same day they announced it to everyone. So you tell the players union the same day you announce it to the public? I think those are two pretty legit concerns for the players. Obviously this is a one sided account, but at the very least not even providing a proposed schedule is pretty ridiculous. The league must have worked up something to that effect in their planning and consideration of the whole thing. So the NHL gave the NHLPA a whole month to consider this? How long has the NHL been working this up? It's not all on the league either, but Bettman is very good at making the player's union look like the enemy. By not involving them earlier and making the unions only recourse to ask for more time, he did exactly that. It doesn't bode well for another CBA negotiation. If they lose any games because of a lockout, it will be the third such work stoppage Bettman has forced in his tenure.
