If I'm not making sense to you in trying to justify the suspension, that may be because I wasn't actually trying to justify one. You can cherry pick a few posts and make it sound as if there's this resounding outrage, but you were the one saying Miller swung his stick like a girl after breaking a nail, so you hardly look impartial on the matter. Most of this thread to me is people just discussing it, with a few people who already hate Lucic chiming in. And maybe one who apparently doesn't like Miller. Also, the Red Wing in question happens to be the brother of the player who got run by Lucic. I'm not advocating it, but it's not like it was someone randomly saying the Wings should attack Lucic. They were just speculating on if his brother Drew would do anything. I chose that analogy because we're talking about a player who isn't eligible to be hit, much like a player without the puck. If you hit a guy without the puck the intent may not have been to injure, but because you're hitting a player who probably isn't prepared to get hit, the chances of injury are higher, intent or not.

Has there really been a lot of outrage in this thread? To me it reads mostly as confusion. As I said in my post, I think an argument can be made that it didn't warrant a suspension. But for Shanny to say it's due to lack of intent doesn't make a lot of sense and is a little surprising based on the standard he was using early in the season. Goalies are not fair game. It's like if Lucic had lined up a player without the puck, didn't go out of his way to avoid contact, and even followed through on the hit like he did with Miller. He may not have intended to injure that player, but when you intentionally hit a guy who's not legally hittable, it's a grey area at best because the intent is pretty clearly to take a shot at someone you shouldn't. If he wanted to keep in line with how he has been giving out punishment, honestly I think Shanny should've given a fine to Lucic for intentionally running a goalie and concussing Miller.
-
Wow. Lack of intent? Let's see, Lucic made no effort at all to avoid Miller, who was on a pretty straight path and not moving quickly. Then he follows through on his check when contact is made. That's lack of intent? Maybe the hit wasn't suspension-worthy, but to say it was a lack of intent is a load of crap. You have 1) an intentional hit on a goaltender, who by the rules is not fair game 2) that led to a concussion of that player 3) by a player who has been suspended in the past. Sorry. This isn't the same level of punishment we saw from Shanny in the preseason and early in the season. The wheel of justice is starting to spin a little...

Well, so far this season Lidstrom is really the only one playing like an All-Star.
-
The thing is, the league doesn't. Rule 69.4 http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26480 Lucic made no effort to avoid contact with Miller and pretty clearly threw his body into him. And if you love Miller, I'm guessing you're not too happy about the concussion he has as a result of the illegal hit. And it's his second one in 8 months, which is even worse news.

The only problem I have with the post is trading for Penner. I thought this guy was going to be an awesome power forward based on his time in Anaheim, but man was I wrong. We already have a player like him in Bertuzzi. But Bert actually tries harder. Penner has been demoted to the third and fourth line several times in his short time in LA. And the Kings don't really need a defenseman like Stuart with Willie Mitchell, Matt Greene, and even Doughty to a degree, all of whom are physical and hard hitting defenseman.

I guess I never really thought of Dats as a particularly slow starter. I'm pretty sure he's started the last few seasons at a point-per-game pace in october. More than even point production though, he's just looked off. His dekes aren't working. He's had completely uncharacteristic turnovers. Passes aren't as sharp as they were. Hopefully it's not the wrist or some chronic injury and he gets back to form.

When you're talking about excelled at being average, I think of guys like Doug Brown more than Draper. Though even Brown had pretty good playoff numbers and could hang with the Russian 5. I'd even go with Maltby over Draper. Draper had speed that was well beyond average. Plus faceoffs. Plus defensive play. It's strange to pick a guy as one of the top examples of average play when he won a Selke, but i think the traded for a dollar story has a lot to do with the choice.

Bertuzzi & Hudler likely to miss tomorrow's game
haroldsnepsts replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Agreed. I have to guess they both actually are sick, since Babcock doesn't have problem benching guys and letting everyone know. Especially Hudler. -
It wouldn't surprise me if a lot of guys were taking it more to try and speed up recovery time than get stronger. It's weird, I didn't recognize twist from that photo, but that name still popped into my head. Somewhere in the deep recesses of my brain I guess I knew who #18 on the blues was. Or maybe I just thought "steroids. Tony Twist." I feel like speculation for him being on roids is not new.

It's too bad Homer didn't come away with a point. He had a great game and was one of the best players on the ice.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eD1_OZ-hjUM&feature=player_embedded#! Datsyuk is hilarious, as always. Pretty cool to hear their thoughts. Especially which players highlights they watch most. I know Ovie is trying to be funny (I think), but he's mostly just an ass.
-
Agreed. I don't think all the problems are suddenly gone. The Ducks haven't been playing well and were at the end of a road trip. But hopefully this is just the boost the Wings needed to start getting things on track.
-
Homer needs to play every game as long as he's healthy and not tired. He was one of the best players on the ice tonight and was a big factor in keeping the puck deep in the Ducks zone. Everyone knows how well he screens goaltenders and redirects pucks, but he's so good at digging pucks out of corners and along the boards. It's not pretty, but effective.

Yes. I said that once, here I think it was, then a bunch of people allegedly from Michigan were arguing there is a south Detroit. Fact is that there is no neighborhood you would describe as South Detroit. Southwest yes. South, no.

Shutout! Good game boys. A not very good Ducks team at the end of a road trip is just what the doctor ordered.

Crap. E puts it over the glass.

Perry (6'3" 212 lbs) gets knocked on his ass by Helm (5'11" 192 lbs).
-
Ducks announcers trying to bring bad ju-ju by saying the S word over and over.
-
Agreed. The Ducks won't goon it up, but I wouldn't be surprised by ***** moves from guys like Perry and Ryan.
-
Why? Parros could probably tune up anyone on the Wings. At least until he fell down. I've never seen an enforcer who was so bad on his skates during a fight.
-
Crosby bashing is liking putting up the bat signal for you Edi.
-
Great move by White! Was that mule cleaning up the garbage? Or was it in straight from white?
-
Kronwall needs to put on 15 pounds or something. I feel like he's gotten pushed around a lot lately.

Honestly after this long road trip, I think they probably just want to go home.
