originally they were saying Shero would at the start, but I missed the first few minutes so I don't know if it happened.
-
Given the crappy job ESPN does with hockey, I'm hoping they got this wrong too.

I feel like I'm attending a medical conference about brain injuries. Ok Vladdy, you were right. So far it sounds like the big news is Sid is getting better but there's no timeline for his return. I can see even holding a press conference for this given all the speculation, but why the 24 hour notice? EDIT: actually it sounds more like an advertisement for the docs that have been working with him. Seriously, this basically seems like these doctors wanting to promote themselves to get business from other hockey players who get concussions.

I'm holding out hope that Salei wasn't actually on that flight like some had thought, and in all the confusion the details just haven't come out yet.
-
I agree that it probably should be cancelled. But to clarify, we're talking about a brain injury with Crosby. He's trying to come back and hasn't been cleared to play. To me this isn't quite the same as Niedermayer's "will I retire" crap that he pulled for half a season with the Ducks.

f***. f***. f***. f***.

c'mon, short of Crosby saying his concussion is fine but he's retiring anyway for good of the NHL, no one here will think his press conference was of value anyway. That's some low-hanging fruit vladdy.
-
This is the complaint about Crosby I don't get. I totally understand being sick of all the media coverage about him, and his whining, even the dives and whatnot. Even just that there's something irritating about him that I can't quite put a finger on. But what has he actually said or done to indicate he thinks he's so important? What indicates that this press conference was his idea?
-
you seem awful certain considering it hasn't happened yet. Why not at least wait until afterwards to ***** about it? honestly if his announcement is in any way positive about him being ready soon, I'm guessing they did it to reassure fans and encourage ticket sales before the season starts.
-
It's hard not to though, out of morbid curiousity. Getting hockey info from Eklund is like reading The Onion to get your daily news.
-
This. I know a press conference only fuels the fire for those who hate all the attention he gets, but the reality is it's been an offseason of wild speculation and rumors about his prognosis. Hearing it from his whiny lips should set the record straight once and for all.

Brian Burke should be arrested of grand larceny

Mid-August apparently. I was looking on capgeek and they had him listed as bought out. Then when I looked it up several other sources made reference to it. It is weird how no major hockey media had reported it though. http://www.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/27694626/31236752 http://blogs.tennessean.com/predators/2011/08/10/goodbye-brett-lebda/ -

They already bought him out. As for this deal, the only thing I can think is Nashville really wants this team to fail, they just have to keep lowering the bar because Trotz manages somehow to make them competitive season after season. -
Eklund is a total idiot, but he's made a pretty sweet gig for himself. He gets 1,000 predictions wrong, but then people will point to the one story he broke minutes before it was on TSN and say "see! he does have the inside scoop!"

I meant an actual verified account that said it was auto-erotic asphyxiation. Konnan basically stated it as if it were fact. That's just a link to someone else speculating.

I don't get it either most of the time. I gave it a plus to help even it back out. Don't know why it would've gotten negged unless Lebda is a member here. -
Are you really so bored that you're trolling in a thread about a dead hockey player?

Link?

Sorry, let me clarify. I wasn't in any way implying Belak was lying about having a concussion or PCS. But he's been in the league since 1998. Any real awareness and talk about concussions has only come in the last few seasons. I'm betting sometime in his NHL career he probably got a concussion, but may not have been diagnosed. He just got his "bell rung." And the second paragraph I also wasn't talking about Belak specifically, but just what has seemed to be happening with enforcers lately. That it's likely some combination of some or all of those factors.
-
Unfortunately for my hockey development, no. Born and raised in Detroit. I grew up playing baseball and soccer. Then finally saw the light when a friend kept telling me about how the Dead Things had drafted this kid Stevie Y.
-
None that he knew of. Belak probably had over 100 fights in his NHL career. And that's just the NHL, not any from his days in the minors. Seems unlikely you could fight that many times and not get at least one concussion. I'm guessing with these guys it's a number of factors. Being a marginal player never knowing if you're going to get cut. The grueling aspects of your role in punching guys in the head and taking punches. Not having many options outside of hockey when your career is over, and hockey has probably been their whole life. And possible depression and other symptoms from post-concussion syndrome.

I blame my parents. I didn't start really following hockey until I was 11, and didn't start skating until shortly after that. Thanks Mom, you go get me baptized as a baby but don't put me on skates? What the hell?!

I heard one of them tried to drink out of it but they choked.

I said the same thing too. What the f*** man?

All great choices. Maybe not my all-time favorite, but as a blast from the past, I'd say Gallant, Yzerman and Probert. Man they were a fun line to watch.
