It makes sense. Because for a lot of these star players, especially someone with the hockey IQ of Nick, it probably just seems intuitive. So how do you teach guys things that happen to you in a way you don't even think about? Honestly with Chelios, it could go either way. He could be great, but he'd certainly be a gamble due to his lack of real coaching experience. Yup. Like I said in another thread. When you have Lidstrom, Kronwall, Stuart and Rafalski as your top 4. And forwards like Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Flip and a lot of generally responsible players, plus generally solid goaltending from Jimmy, the team should be doing a hell of a lot better than 23rd in GAA.

I have to wonder if the team even let him go, or if he really is pursuing other opportunities. A little while ago I seem to remember there was buzz how he could be a head coach one day soon. Either way, it's a good thing to get new blood in there. While the players obviously have to shoulder a lot of the responsibility for the poor defensive play, something had to change.

Notable Restricted/Unrestricted Free Agents in 2011

Agreed. Anyone who wants Kaberle is clearly not watching the Eastern Conference finals. -
I've only seen an mlive article make offhanded mention of that deal. My question is when did this happen? what was the term?? Details have been so sketchy on what should have been a pretty big deal. I guess those are several questions, but you get the point. He's a fool if it was just about the dollar amount. Maybe it was term. And even then I don't know who would be on what side of wanting longer or shorter term. I wouldn't want the Wings locking E up for more than 2 or 3 years because it still remains to be seen where his play will level off at. He's only had 2 seasons in the NHL. One was craptacular, one was much better, but still very much up and down. If I had to guess I'd hope it'd be that the Wings only wanted to offer Ericsson a two year deal and he wanted longer, but who knows... IF he wants more than 2, let him walk and bring someone else in. I'm sure LGW can find another #5 Dman to blame for all the team's woes.

True. Why not shoot higher then? Scotty Bowman for assistant coach to Babcock!
-
This is great news! But I don't get why Hitchcock's name is being mentioned so often. The guy's a Stanley Cup winning head coach with 15 years experience. Why would he want to be second fiddle to Babcock? Has someone read something somewhere? Or is this another case of "sign Shea Weber!"

what's the count? 3-2? 3 all? I don't care about the score. I'm wondering who's winning the diving competition. I have 100 bucks on the Nucks.
-
Up until this season that may have been true. I don't even really know what this is about anymore though, other than another stupid thread about how much Crosby sucks.
-
Believe what you want but I'm not a Crosby fan. How am I defending him blindly? Look at his list of achievements. Before his injury he was destroying this league. He was absolutely the best player. As for All Time Greats and what qualifies as "all time", it gets into semantics. No way do I include Crosby with Howe, Mario and Gretzky (and Orr) yet. But when you look at his achievements by the age of 24, he has a place pretty high up in hockey history already, and if he stays healthy it will probably get much higher. And I'm not sure what your point was about AO and the gap widening affecting him being an all time great.

Honestly it's the best and worst things about this series. It's nice to watch each team get a taste of their own medicine as their players flop all over the ice, throwing their arms up in disgust when the refs don't bite. The downside is it's a disgrace to hockey. Especially in the playoffs. Guys playing all out and through unbelievable injuries, it's embarrassing watching other players diving like that.

Rocket Richard trophy Stanley Cup (and another Finals appearance) Art Ross Pearson Hart Olympic Gold Medal World Junior Gold medal has 82 points in 62 career playoff games and had 66 points in 41 games this season before his injury. All before he's what, 24 years old? If a Red Wings player had done all that you wouldn't call them one of the most talented players of all time? I think he's a snotty little ****** much of the time, but Crosby is already one of the all time greats, and it's bad for the NHL if he's not playing. Wouldn't it be bad for the NHL if Datsyuk wasn't playing? It's still a canadian game and Sid is a Canadian superstar. Or course they're going to talk more about him. Yes, it'd be great if they focused more on some of the other great players in this league, but that's not his fault. And honestly, I've been an Ovechkin fan but Crosby is clearly the better of the two, and the gap was widening before his injury.

Don't the Sharks know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?
-
Agreed. Especially when you consider that Rafalski is on the Wings averaging over 20 minutes a night and had 48 points in 63 games, and as far as I know after problems in Montreal and Vancouver, Schneider's career is basically over.
-
Actually, that would be a pretty awesome (and appropriate) song for Versus to intro games between the Canucks and Sharks.

Oh. Well I guess since Holland is signed for 5 years here and Yzerman is signed for 5 years in Tampa, I figured it's decided anyway. And my answer is still the same. Even if we could have Stevie right now, it'd be good for him to get a few years experience at least in Tampa. Then come home and take over in Detroit.
-
Holland just re-signed for 5 years anyway. But when that contract is up, seems like a perfect time for Stevie to come home. Let Stevie get more experience under his belt there, and by then most of the guys he played with for years in Detroit will be long gone.

Clips from the 90s are vintage?? Damn I must be old. This must be antique then! EDIT: found a better clip of it.

That's hilarious. Not so fun being on the other side of it. Also funny that they can be both hypocrites and right at the same time. It can be a dive off between Setoguchi, Thornton, Kesler, H. Sedin, and Torres.
-
scroll back and read the thread if you like. I'm not going to drag this further off actual talk about hockey.
-
That's the funny thing about forums. As much as you Canucks fans try and police and refute what people say about your team all across the internet, people are allowed to think otherwise.
-
We're watching the games of two teams we don't particularly care about, whereas you're watching as a hardcore fan of one of them. Whose perspective do you think is likely more skewed?

There's no way the Predators are letting their captain go, unless they're scrapping that team. And even then the Wings fitting him under the cap would probably require Lids retiring. Any offer big enough to keep the Preds from matching would have to be huge, and cost the Wings a ton of picks. I'd love to have Weber, but he'd cost the Wings too much. Doughty is the same thing. And no thanks to Frolov, for those who are mentioning his name. Instead of a space in the Wings locker room they could just build him a doghouse, because that's likely where he'd end up given his questionable work ethic. -
Like Modano, Abby and Miller are both American.
-
I don't know that anyone is eager to see Miller leave. Just that he is among the more expendable or replaceable.

Homer needs to be a 4th liner/PP specialist next season..
haroldsnepsts replied to a topic in General
Agreed. Homer has an extremely limited skillset, but he does make the most of it. The biggest factor in him being worth his contract or not is if he stays healthy. And I also think he doesn't get enough credit for his puck retrieval skills. Datsyuk is great in the corners because he's a pickpocket and dipsy-doodles and comes out with the puck. Homer goes in and just hacks and whacks and battles and often comes out with the puck, then dishes it to a playmaker. If the puck ends up in the corner, he goes and battles again and dishes it off. And will do it again, and again, and again.
