    Kyle Quincey

wow, a trolling thread from Crymson regarding Quincey. I'm shocked. still trying to absolve Red Wings management of any responsibility for losing him for nothing? Keep up the good work! Luckily they made the right choice and we've still got Lebda and Meech as key components of our defensive corps.

    Modano has severed flexor tendon

Exactly. I'm far from an NHL caliber player, but does that little extra bit on the end of the glove really make that big of a difference?? Seems like the protection against slashes alone is worth it.

    LGW's favorite player slewfoots Callahan

This forum's obsession with Crosby is getting a little creepy. It's approaching obsessiveness like Blackhawks fans chanting "Detroit sucks" during their Cup celebration.

11/28 GDT: Blue Jackets 2 at Red Wings 4

Man, I wonder how many goals the Wings have given up this season with less than a minute left in the period.

11/28 GDT: Blue Jackets 2 at Red Wings 4

The most common explanation I've heard is so teams could create and wear third jerseys, which are usually dark. So fans can see their team wearing them at home. And personally I like the dark at home. It was that way before it was ever white at home. But mostly I just prefer the red sweater to the white one.

    Modano has severed flexor tendon

Because if it really did take 6 months for him to come back, that's pretty much the rest of the season, and we're talking about a guy who's 40 years old and was still trying to adjust to the speed of the Wings game. I'm not saying that's the case, but it's not surprising people are speculating it could be the end of his career. Not sounding good. Holland saying he'll be out a "significant" amount of time after Modano had surgery on the wrist last night. Mlive: Modano out long term after surgery

Gorgeous hip check by Dan Hamhuis

would you prefer delicious? Great hipcheck by Hamhuis. It's great to see guys out there who can still throw them, and Hamhuis is definitely one of them.

Pronger falls victim to "Avery Rule"

ANyone see Pronger's post game comments? Pretty friggin hilarious. "I don't want to get into he-said she-said with the refs... I'm the he." EDIT: ah, crap. this clip doesn't have all his post game comments. He was pretty funny actually.

Pronger falls victim to "Avery Rule"

Agreed. It was the wrong call, but I don't exactly feel bad about it. And I don't even hate Pronger as much as most folks around here.

Pronger falls victim to "Avery Rule"

Kipper also let in a goal because he was busy slashing Pronger instead of playing the puck. Lucky for him, the refs bailed him out.

Pronger falls victim to "Avery Rule"

honestly, seeing the replay it looks like a pretty lame call. Kipper couldn't see the shot because he was busy hacking Pronger in the back of the leg, not because Pronger's hand was in his face.

Marlies vs Griffins - AHL Line Brawl - Nov 24, 2010

Wow. two things I didn't like about those fights. First, guys sure hung on to their sticks a long time in the scrums. Easy to get a butt end that way. And second, am I the only one who thinks bodyshots in a hockey fight are bad form? Or at the very least, lame?

Pronger falls victim to "Avery Rule"

because one is pretty difficult and requires you maintain having your body outside of the crease, whereas if you're allowed to use your hand, you could reach and put it just in front of the goaltenders face, essentially turning it into a childish battle of "i'm not touching you!" As for the Pronger call, I have mixed feelings. By the letter of the rule it was the wrong call. But it was still kind of in the spirit of the rule. I still would've loved to have Pronger on the Wings, but he is really getting weird in his old age out there in Philly. Stealing pucks, now the hand thing...

Ovechkin, Kovalchuk heard laughing after Caps' blowout loss

Imagine the Wings lose three in a row, Lidstrom isn't performing as well as the team would like. After getting shelled 5-0 to Edmonton, Babcock is holding a post game press conference and is distracted by Lidstrom laughing and joking around with one of the Oiler's players. Not the end of the world, but not very smart by the captain.

Ovechkin, Kovalchuk heard laughing after Caps' blowout loss

Because they're ultimately entertainers, and rely on the media to help promote the game and themselves. Seeming like you don't care that your team just got blown out again might make Caps fans less crazy about shelling out their money to support the team.

Ovechkin, Kovalchuk heard laughing after Caps' blowout loss

This isn't the big deal people probably make it out to be, but seriously, your team just lost 5-0 TO NEW JERSEY and Ovie has only 2 goals in 9 games. Imagine you're a coach getting asked questions about your teams three game skid and you get distracted because your star player is a few feet away laughing and ******* around with a guy from the team who just kicked your ass. As the article states:

    Marc Staal destroys Matt Stajan

Like I said, I think it's a good hit. But that's hardly a VERY clear North South hit. Kronwall crushing Havlat is a very clear North south hit. He was clearly in front of him, but off to the side. He skates across parallel to the blueline. It's up for debate if that's considered an East West hit. My main point was who knows how the league will rule on it. Do you really need to argue that point even when I'm saying I think it's a good hit?

    Marc Staal destroys Matt Stajan

I think it was a great hit. But in terms of how the NHL will rule, who knows. It looked blindside, but only because Stajan was admiring his pass, in the offensive zone, headed towards the net. Which is unbelievable he had his head down in that part of the ice. There was some contact to the head, but I wouldn't say it was the principle point of contact. And it was East West. Like I said, I think it's a good hit. As for the NHL, spin the wheel....
  21. Yes the game was probably out of reach for Washington, 4 goals down with under three minutes left (though if anyone could come back from that deficit, it would be the Caps). But what do you think Babcock would do if the Wings were in this situation and his players made this kind of defensive effort? Particularly Green, who had a great seat for the goal, but Chimera could've hustled back too and helped out Schultz who looked like he was half assing it and got undressed. I'm sure these bad habits won't hurt the Caps come playoff time.

11/21 GDT: Flames 4 at Red Wings 5 (OT)

Yeah, he had his arm up sort of awkwardly as Giordano checked him hard into the boards. Seemed like a shoulder injury.
