I saw this on another site. Not sure if there's already links to the clip in this thread. I'm actually a fan of Keith, but wtf? and how did this not get called? Then the Rafalski penalty, double wtf?? Not that it'll happen because he's the Norris winner, but that elbow is suspension-worthy.
-
I don't understand this reasoning. He did that 26 times last night. They just didn't look difficult enough or something? And honestly if Ozzy stays consistent but not great for the season, that's enough to carry the Wings a looong way, especially as backup. Him being very good and consistent got the Wings to the Cup finals two years running. I'd take that any day over Fleury's spectacular saves followed by him scoring on himself with his ass.
-
I was hoping Kovy would give Mr. Postseason a good tuning, but Green looked like he was rehearsing for his eventual appearance on Battle of the Blades.
-
I have to say, Turco has been one of my favorite players over the years. At least when the Wings are playing him.
-
Watching it on the NHL network, which has the chicago feed. Weird how they only notice when the Hawks keep the Wings pinned in, but not the other way around.
-
He actually did have surprisingly good form for someone who doesn't fight. Did a great job with balance, protecting himself and giving a few punches of his own. Maybe after practice he and Z have stopped playing keepaway and now they practice fighting. I wouldn't. well, I guess it depends on what you mean exactly. I love that he stuck up for himself, especially against a douchebag like Perry. But he's to valuable to be dropping the gloves more than once every blue moon. Aside from injury potential, it's going to be a win for the the other team almost every single time to get Dats off the ice for 5 minutes. Still, awesome to see.
-
I should've figured. The second biggest douchebag and spot picker next to Perry.
-
Who was that who took a run at Kronner before the Stuart fight? Man the Ducks love to goon it up. I think it's gonna be a long season for them.
-
Enforcing and Perry in no way belong in the same sentence. Lady Bing winners 1 Spot picking douchebags 0 Perry's like the bully's sidekick, who acts tough because he knows guys who can actually fight have his back. And he'll never pick a fair fight.
-
Perry is the perfect example. He's a spot picker and knows there's no one out there who will lay a beat down on him if he goes after Datsyuk. There's no one in the lineup he'd have to answer to or else look like a coward.
-
Perry's douchiness knows no bounds. Great job by Dats for holding his own against a much bigger guy. And awesome that Perry couldn't win a fight against a Lady Bing winner.

This. It just keeps looking worse and worse for Lilja.

Joe "heimlich" Thornton named Sharks Captain
haroldsnepsts replied to Doc Holliday's topic in General
Yeah, you could tell by the way Thornton was smiling that those couple gloved punches Franzen and Homer threw really scared him. -
Yeah, he took several to the face. It's no surprise one of them eventually got him on the button.
-
Actually I think that's the majority. His usefulness has just declined over the years and it's come time to let him go. But that's not hate. He's given a lot to the Wings over the years.

Calling someone's post dumb is pretty much calling them dumb. Ah were only that true. But I can dream... Which is why it's a good thing we have you here at the ready to pass judgment. keep up the good work. cheers. apologies to the mods for derailing the thread. I facepalm myself.
-
You know, calling my posts dumb over and over again is pretty much a personal insult. As Matt suggested several posts before you did, I plan to keep it civil from here on out in this thread.
-
yeah, I realized I had posted Raf, Raf, and Lidstrom as the best puckmovers. Probably why I shouldn't drink scotch and post. If we had two rafalski's then there'd just be twice as much bitching about his contract... Honestly he may become a good puck mover. As a converted forward I'm sure he has that sense, but he's got much larger issues to work on first. Like decision making. I'd be perfectly happy if he settled at the Stuart level of puck movement, as long as he also had Stuart's physical play.
-
I think Ericsson is a decent puck mover. It's the brain farts and lack of physical play that kill him. But he's definitely not at the level of a Kronwall, Lids or Raf when it comes to moving the puck up ice. I'd take it more to mean that with these pairings the Wings have a great puck mover in each pairing.

Honestly it sounds like at the heart of it we sort of agree on the situation. I think choosing to keep Chelios is what brought the situation to a head with their young defenseman. It painted them into a corner. I won't bother with the semantics argument. My main point was that of course a lot of the blame has to go to Quincey for not being able to clearly outplay Meech. But it's also Holland's job to recognize talent in young players. It was a tough call, and in retrospect, not the the right one. Such is life. Matt! Always good to see you around, even if it's to give us all a much needed smackdown. Is a preseason suspension really so out of the question? I mean, Cammalleri managed it. It would be pretty funny if Ritola turned into a stud. Yzerman already showing up his old boss.
-
Nice try? yeah, why let facts get in the way of your invented argument. How about you spend less time judging posts or being a Red Wings cheerleader and more time actually talking hockey? I'm guessing that'll be difficult, because it seems you mostly have no idea what the f*** you're talking about.
-
Ummm... no? That wasn't the argument I made. You keep the ones you think are or will become NHL defenseman. Holland may have thought Quincey was good, but apparently not good enough to cut it as a defenseman in the NHL. And we're not talking about bottom pairing. He plays 20+ minutes a night.
-
Even though you behave as if someone has, you actually haven't been given the position of judging all posts here at LGW. Nice delusional post. He never faced any challenging situations? do you realize how ridiculous of a statement that is? how could a defenseman in a playoff game never face a challenging situation. It just demonstrates how far gone you are when it comes to this subject. Inventing some version of the games where Quincey apparently just got to skate around there with no worries because he was coddled. And he played 8 minutes a game in the postseason we're talking about. If you're going to be a condescending ass, at least get your facts right. Again, he played more than six minutes per night. But don't let the facts get in the way of your condescension and revisionist history. By the accounts that he didn't make the team. That's kind of circular reasoning. Meech is waived, Quincey is an NHL defenseman. It's hilarious you don't think maybe holland missed something there. I realize it's what you said. Because you can't fathom that holland made a mistake. His job is to recognize latent talent in players. Of course a lot of the fault goes with Quincey, but it's Holland's too. I don't really understand your point here, but you're the one who has revised Quincey's play. He didn't win a spot, but you make it sound like he was a disaster out there and the Wings had to hide him on the bench. Funny how you didn't address that pretty much any good coach would try to keep their bottom pairing away from the other team's top line, especially a rookie. That has nothing to do with Quincey's play. Hopefully Ritola won't become another Quincey. If he does though, I'm sure you'll have plenty of posts about how it was all Ritola's fault.
-
Agreed. It sounds like Ritola has failed to impress time and time again. But you made the mistake of bringing up Quincey which will lead to what you see below, because Holland couldn't possibly be anything but perfect. Nice revisionist history of your own. Coddled? how exactly do you coddle an NHL defenseman? The Wings tried to keep their bottom pairing and rookie defenseman away from Anaheim's and San Jose's top lines?! Shocking! Unprecedented! Maybe because for some crazy reason they wanted to have the league's best defenseman on the ice against the other team's top lines. How exactly did Meech outshine Quincey in every way? This is your biggest revisionist history. Unless you attended every single training camp and practice. Because in the games it wasn't that clear, at least not the ones where Meech was on D. But Meech had the benefit of versatility. If you're going to be a plug, it doesn't hurt to be one who can play wing too. But no, I know, Holland can't make mistakes. It was all Quincey's fault. You whine about us fixating on Quincey, but jeez. Holland thought Quincey would never make a quality NHL defenseman. Turns out he was wrong. Get over it.
-
It pretty much explains why in the first paragraph of the article. The opener is against the Ducks. It makes sense. Lids will still be on the power play with Raf. And this isn't necessarily permanent. If Ericsson gets his game together, he may move to a different pairing.
