WCQF Game 6 GDT: Coyotes 5 at Red Wings 2
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Great work by Drapes line. -
I agree he likely won't be suspended, but there wasn't intent on Ovechkin's play either. And I think the injury to the head is kind of a weak criteria for the NHL to use. They claim it's not influenced by extent of the injury, but that's exactly what that is. Not to mention, you can't always tell if there's a head injury, unless the guy's knocked out cold. Hamhuis could wake up today with headaches and they'll find out he had a concussion. Both plays they reached out and shoved the guy as he was headed towards the boards. That's always a dangerous play. It was an equally dangerous play to what AO did to Campbell, it just didn't have as bad of consequences. If Hamhuis falls differently, it could've been a concussion and broken collarbone, or worse. But he gets up and skates away, so Hossa's back on the ice to score the winning goal.
-
The league claims not to suspend based on the resulting injury. If that's the case, they'll suspend Hossa. He's not a repeat offender like Ovie was and it's the playoffs, so it'd be a game, max. The reality is though that he didn't even get a game misconduct like Ovechkin did. A suspension likely isn't coming and the NHL still lacks any bit of consistency.

Agreed. Honestly I'd prefer they stay strict on this rule, because I don't want to watch a hockey game where guys are intentionally redirecting the puck in off their skates all the time. There's a reason you have a stick.

Not much. But +/- aside, he's having another bad playoffs. I know Norris is for regular season, but to me there's an element of the award of "who would you want on the ice in key situations of the Cup Finals?" Green is certainly not top three in any situation other than power play. Over on hfboards there's people comparing him to Paul Coffey. It's friggin ridiculous. Yes, Green is great offensively on a great offensive team. If he wins the Norris, it will be a disgrace to the award. In future years Mike Green would be the example people use when someone is trying to prove a crazy ass pick to win the Norris. Post: so and so will never win the Norris because he's not good at defense! Reply: Mike Green says hi. Lids had a slow start, but came on stronger and stronger as the season wore on. His Norris wins may be behind him. It's unfortunate it took people so long to recognize how great of a D-man he is, because his style of play isn't flashy. Lidstrom's greatness is best shown by the things that don't happen - like mistakes, or the puck ending up in his net. And let's be honest, if Lids was a Canadian boy, he's got at least one more Norris and is ahead of Bourque on everyone's list. It's sad how lazy hockey writers have gotten over the years. If not for the Olympics, Doughty probably isn't in the top three because he plays for the Kings and their games are so late. It's like you can just go down the stat sheet for offense and hand out awards now.

Great to see him nominated. I agree with the people saying it's probably going to Myers. I think Jimmy's age hurts him, even though it technically shouldn't. Honestly I'm glad he was nominated to recognize what a great season he had, but I kind of don't want him to win it in some weird way. I want him to just go out and play next season and continue to mature without the hype and expectations of a Calder winner. I guess I'm just superstitious and don't want to jinx him.
-
And once again the Crosby obsession rears it's ugly head. So you didn't notice him in OT? The guy has 13 points in 5 games, including 2 last night. And you're trying to imply he was invisible out there when he shouldn't have been? Honestly I think he's a douchebag and he annoys the s*** out of me, but c'mon people. We're talking about what a stud Z is because he has 5 goals and 7 points in 4 games (which is very good). If a Wings player had 13 points in 5, we'd be falling all over ourselves. Back on topic, I'm sooooo happy the Pens lost. And man are some good, but overrated goaltenders getting exposed this playoffs.

I didn't catch the game but saw the highlights. Even in those short clips, he looked a little rattled. Arguing on goals, letting in Zetterberg's second goal from a negative angle. All good signs.
-
link? source? I think the competition committee is made up of 4 NHL players, four GM's, and one owner. I would hope that all the players voted to keep OT the way it is. so I have to wonder who the idiot GM's are. EDIT: Looks like it was Bob Gainey, Kevin Lowe, David Poile, and Don Waddell for the GM's, and Ed Snider, owner of the Flyers.

WCQF Game 4 GDT: Coyotes 0 at Red Wings 3
haroldsnepsts replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
Hey look everybody! It's Crymson here to judge us again! Wish I could've caught the game tonight. It sounded like a good one. This should be a great confidence builder for Jimmy. And it never ceases to amaze me how Z can turn it on come playoff time. He loves to shoot the puck and carry it into high traffic areas, both of which you really need this time of year. Howard made a save without a mask?? -
Part of it is it's not like they just decided to start sucking defensively. They're being rushed by Phoenix's forecheck. And they were getting outraced and outworked to most pucks. That lack of time and lack of moving their feet is part of what made them suddenly look so awful. It's not just that they lost their game. Phoenix threw them off it.

That's sort of my point. I don't think he was. The Avs player got his stick in there, and Boyle was backhanding it behind his own net. It wouldn't surprise me if it was deflected and went on net. When I heard it was an own goal, that's nowhere near where I would've expected him to be on the ice. You really have to miss badly to put a backhand on net from there. It could be what happened, but I'd bet it deflected off the Avs player's stick and went on net. I kind of feel bad for Boyle, but at the same time it's still pretty friggin funny.
-
To me it kind of looked like it hit the Avs player's stick. Hard to tell though. Still, what an awful way to lose. Sharks still finding a way to not look like a Cup contender.
-
Nice. He made an ass of himself, which I doubt he cares about, but he also just embarrassed his coach, who was screaming at the ref about the non-call.
-
This. Howard would have to let in several Legace-like backbreaking goals before they should yank him to put in Ozzy. And even then it would be a desperate move. The Wings would probably get a delay of game penalty as they waited for Ozzy to get all the dust off his pads.

WCQF Game 3 GDT: Coyotes 4 at Red Wings 2

Old habits are hard to break? let's hope they change their ways, and fast. The Wings deserved to lose this one, and more often than not haven't looked like a very scary team to play against. -

You know what his honest opinion is better than he does?? Good lord, do you ever actually talk about the game, or just psychoanalyze people in GDT's when you disapprove of the content of their message? -

I think because they often got away with them, until you run into a team that's working and forechecking as hard as the Coyotes. -
Predators sign on to stay in Nashville until at least 2012
haroldsnepsts replied to commadore183's topic in General
Agreed. They've managed to put together a competitive team with relative little resources. I think the Preds are always at or near the bottom in terms of payroll spending. Trotz is a good coach and makes a team that's a pain in the ass to play against. As for the market, I don't know. The Predators have about as sweetheart of a deal as an expansion team could hope for, and they still can't seem to turn a profit. Time will tell I guess. -

I don't think there's anything wrong with a fan of another team being here, as long as they're respectful and to some degree realize they're in hostile waters. Actually I think it makes the forum a better place, getting an outside opinion from other hockey fans. Some of the more insightful members over the years have been from other teams. Can't we just stand down a little, instead of everyone getting their hackles up just because he's from the hated Pens? And back on topic, if people seriously think the NHL can be rigged to that degree, why would you spend time watching a sport that has no integrity? I think there are bad refs, and I'm not fond of how Bettman runs the league, but if I really thought there was an organized conspiracy to advance a team in the playoffs, there's no way in hell I'd waste my time watching hockey.

Reasons why to have Ericsson play the point on the PP
haroldsnepsts replied to stevkrause's topic in General
That's sort of where I'm at with it. E has some offensive skills, but with as much as he's struggled this year, I'd be a little reluctant to put him in a high pressure situation like on the point. And he has a cannon, but his windup isn't suited to the NHL speed of the game like Nick's is. I'm betting it's a cannon when he has all day to wind up. But he's gonna have to shorten it up to get the shot off and get it through guys. Might be worth trying having Ericsson out there, but like I said, with as much as he struggled, I'd want him to be able to keep his game simple. -
Absolutely cause to worry. It pretty much gives the refs license to call a lot of penalties on Homer. Especially since the league has made the very public warning about cracking down on interference, they won't want to look bad for letting anything go. Is O'halloran in the playoffs? the best thing that could happen for the Wings is for him to go away early.
-
I just thought people might enjoy this oldie but a goodie as well, if they hadn't seen it before. Be sure to listen for the Kings player (I think Avery) asking "Cookie" how his head is after the hit.

It'd be fun to hear Mick and Strader together again. But I don't mind about the VS or NBC games because Strader is as professional as they come, not to mention he has history with the Wings from calling their games, so it's probably a wash. Honestly I think he is better than Daniels. Don't get me wrong, Daniels isn't bad, I just think Strader is one of the best guys out there. Maybe it's partly because I grew up listening to him call Wings games, who knows.
