Good question. It was a clear hook to the hands from behind on a breakaway.
-
Let's lock it down boys.
-
DK! Another puck with eyes.
-
crap. seeing-eye goal there.
-
These days when I hear upper body injury I always worry it's a concussion.
-
Exactly. Even that last shift instead of working to maintain possession of the puck in the offensive zone, he just throws it behind the net and gives up possession. Vancouver recovers and he heads right off the ice. He's such a good player but shifts like that are so irritating.
-
It's so apparent when Franzen is near the end of his shift and wants to get off the ice, even when he's got the puck in the offensive zone. If Z has the deepest tank on the Wings, Mule probably has the shallowest.
-
Ericsson looks gassed out there a fair amount of the time.
-
He gets off a great shot that hits the cross bar, but then gets pushed around in front of his own net at the end of the play. That's Kindl in a nutshell.
-
ah. actually off the skate of the Canucks player in front of the net. Sbisa only gets the assist.
-
Sbisa own goal?
-
refs with the nonexistent make up call. Who are the officials this game?
-
Big block by Abby there.
-
Agreed. I know it's a split second decision, but if you're going up the middle you better know what you're doing. Two big holds let go, then a soft crosscheck and a dive gets called. And once again Kindl showing how pillow soft he is on the puck.
-
Quincey with the hook. Bieksa with the embellishment (not called).
-
It's crazy that this is just now Dekeyser's 100th game. He plays like someone with a lot more experience than that, especially given the minutes he gets. The Wings are lucky to have him.
-
The two practices before final cuts, Babcock had XO paired with Quincey, with Kindl and Lashoff rotating in as the "scratches." It was taken as a pretty clear sign what Babcock thought the roster should be. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/10/red_wings_assign_defenseman_xa.html Brendan Savage also alluded to Holland overruled Babcock regarding XO. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/11/rookie_xavier_ouellet_playing.html
-
Babcock wanted to start the season with XO in the lineup but was overruled by Holland so I'd have to assume he doesn't love the current situation either.
-
It's frustrating. They managed to shed most of Holland's bad signings this offseason, but Kindl's is really the last one holding this team back.

@#$%! Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 52m 52 minutes ago Holland said Ouellet will be sent down when Smith is activated.

That's the problem I have with using Corsi for an individual player though, especially in one game. Corsi doesn't track possession at all. It tracks shots that occur when a player is on the ice at even strength. For a team over a large number of shots, it appears to correlate pretty well with possession time. I don't know how well that correlates with possession time for one player in one game. For a single player over the course of a game, it's too plus/minusy for me. When Weiss was out there even strength, there were more shots on the other teams net. But then there's quality of linemates, quality of opponents, offensive vs. defensive zone starts. WOWY analysis helps a bit but at a certain point you have to corroborate with so many other stats that is it really telling us that much? I agree overall that the "advanced" stats can be useful. But they're already being misused all the time with people making claims that aren't actually supported by the stats. It's a bit of a new toy. -
True. But from a Wings perspective I think he's the highest draft pick they've had since Marty Lapointe. I think we all got a little excited he'd develop into a good NHL defenseman.

I'm not against advanced stats, but using Corsi for individual players is pretty shaky to me. All this comes with the caveat that I'm not super versed in advanced stats, but from what I know Corsi is already built on a somewhat creaky premise, but one that usually works out for a team over a significant number of games. Comparing individual players though I think it starts to break down. It's really a dressed up plus minus stat. If I understand it correctly (and it's quite possibly I don't), Weiss having the best Corsi-for percentage last night means when he was on the ice at even strength, the team got off more Shots For than they allowed against. As for what that says about his play last night? To me not a whole lot, especially when you factor in sample size. by any metric though it sounds like he's doing well, which is great. -
Chelios is such an ass. He's seriously bagging on Shanahan for being calculating, as he badmouths a former teammate to help sell his book? I wonder if Chelios also wrote about being a dirty player, starf***er, and drunk driver.

My joke of a site? I have no affiliation with them, and hockeyfights is a pretty great source for tracking fighting. The problem seems to be that you think having the gloves off when you hug someone constitutes a fight. Whereas they actually track real fights. Someone throwing a gloved punch in a scrum is also not a fight, especially when you're trying to use it as evidence that they'd fight all takers if players didn't jump in.
