Red Wings playing the team that they probably support the most financially under the CBA. There should be a little Wings logo on the shoulder of the Phoenix sweater. Hopefully they get this done in regulation and keep the momentum from last game. As others said, it's hard for a team to separate itself in the standings because of the loser point. I'm picking Bert to get one tonight. And Helm to keep busting his ass out there like he always does. Hopefully he'll get one too. A shorty.

I'd like to think that Burke has some master plan here, where the U.S. team use's speed, grit and goaltending to steal games from the more talented Canadian and Russian squads. I just don't have that much faith in Burke. Still, go USA!!

    The Chris Osgood discussion thread

No worries. I shouldn't get bent out of shape about it, but the Ozzy drama has been going on so long here. I'd like to think when he retires, that will be the end of it. But I'm sure Jimmy and whoever else we have in net will only fill the void of arguing about goaltending here.

    Jimmy Howard

I don't know which and dont' care. I just know if he expects to start, he needs to play better. You're apparently the one who's the expert on his mindset.

    The Chris Osgood discussion thread

This is the perfect example of what I was saying in another thread. I actually agree with a lot of your post. Howard has been playing better, regardless of stats. He's been steady and Ozzy has not. And if Osgood could flip a switch he sure as hell would. But the bolded section is what makes you sound like a bats*** crazy Ozzy hater. He likes playing the underappreciated hero card? wtf are you talking about?? It's like you guys get so consumed by hate for him because of his play on the ice, it leads to these invented fantasies of what Ozzy is thinking and feeling. Like he's sitting in the lockerroom smoking a cigar saying "ehh, f*** it. I'll wait til the playoffs until I start playing good."

    Jimmy Howard

you're hilarious. How about you try reading my posts. I think he's a good goalie, but I don't love Ozzy. I've said in multiple threads Jimmy should be starting over him, and that Ozzy has let in backbreaking goals, and that stats don't tell the whole story as to why Jimmy should be starting. The difference is that my posts have to do with how I think the two goalies are actually playing on the ice. You're bashing Osgood for something you imagine he thinks and feels. Aside from that being a little crazy, it also reveals how your feelings about Osgood extend beyond how he's played on the ice. How do you know his approach is nonchalant? He could be busting his ass every day. He could be obsessing about it every minute. It could be keeping him up nights. All we know is he isn't playing well. That doesn't necessarily mean he's being nonchalant. It doesn't necessarily mean he's not trying. We don't know. But since you dont like him, to you that must mean that he's half assing it. That's what gets me. I understand being pissed at him for the goals he lets in, or not playing well, but inventing stuff about his mindset and life off the ice?? how could we know? If you don't like Ozzy, it's going to sound like whining. If you love Ozzy, it'll probably sound like a guy who's competitive and really wants to play. The truth is it's only a few quotes used in an article with very little context.

You don't have to say it. You had your mind made up before you even knew what you were talking about, then you focused on the tiny art of that article and made it fit your preconceived notion. You don't have to say you hate Osgood. It's obvious from what you've posted and the conclusions you've jumped to.

    Jimmy Howard

You bashed him for what he said before you even actually read what he said. You had your mind made up before you even knew what the hell you were talking about. You hate Osgood. That's fine. But in goalie discussions it make you no better than the Ozzy apologists here. EDIT: Here's the posts I'm referring to. Your reply is a couple below it.

    Jimmy Howard

absolutely. Jimmy spent so much time in the minors I didn't know what to expect when he finally got his shot with the Wings. He's proving why he was picked in the first place.

    Jimmy Howard

I completely agree. I don't know how I can make any clearer I think Howard is playing well. I just get tired of the hyperbole here, particularly when it comes to goalies. they win a few and they're Vezina worthy, they let in a softie and they're the worst two ever play in the NHL. As I said in my first post, I'm happy with Howard has been playing and think he should continue to be the starter.

I can't tell if you're being serious. Who would you put him over? Quick? Basically Jimmy is just too much of an unknown at this point for such an important tournament. Hopefully in 4 years when he has a Stanley Cup or two under his belt.

    Jimmy Howard

No, I'm not kidding, and no he hasn't been outstanding. Forgive me for only saying he's been playing well. And I am giving him credit. I could care less about where he stands relative to Brodeur statistically. Having a SV % close to Marty does not mean his game is up with Brodeur's or Nabby's. He's played 13 fewer games than Marty and 11 fewer than Nabokov, and I won't even get into the relative opponenets he's faced. I've actually watched the games. He's been good and gives the team a chance to win. I'm not knocking Jimmy, but he hasn't stolen any games for us. He's been good and shown a lot of promise, especially for a rookie. He's been a steadying force, which this team has needed. But I'm not gonna say he's been outstanding when he wasn't, just like I'm not gonna say he's been awful when everyone turns on him for letting in a bad goal.

Why did the Wings pick McCollum before Markstrom?

Exactly. All goalies embellish a little to try and draw a call, but that's Ribiero worthy.

    Winter Classic

Honestly I can't really blame those guys for picking their spots. It'd be stupid to take themselves off the ice for five minutes against a guy who's an enforcer.

Why did the Wings pick McCollum before Markstrom?

Wow. That's embarrassing. He should go play soccer, not hockey.
  19. haroldsnepsts

    Jimmy Howard

Let me start by saying I think Jimmy has been playing well, and I think he should be starting over Osgood until he shows otherwise. BUT I think it's an exaggeration to say he's stealing games for us. He's been giving the team a chance to win (when they score friggin goals). He still needs to work on his rebound control, and he really needs to work on his decision-making about playing the puck. But considering he's a rookie, he's looking good.

you are un-******* believable. I hope you're doing some weird Andy Kaufman routine, because otherwise I'm sad for you.

    The Chris Osgood discussion thread

He also really needs to work on his decisionmaking when playing the puck. Anytime he goes behind the net, it seems like he turns it over. He needs to communicate better in those situations because he's had a lot of close calls. He's not as bad as Hasek, but not much better.
