Ovechkin has three career fights, the last one being in 2010 when he jumped Dubinsky. The other two were mostly scrums with a couple punches thrown. http://www.hockeyfights.com/players/4578

Do we need a trade to get our offence going ?
haroldsnepsts replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
According to capgeek this is the final year of his contract. At $3 million a year, you don't trade for him if you plan to send him down. I'm afraid to even discuss it more for fear it will somehow bring this terrible trade into existence. -

Former Red Wing on the downward side of his production. Seems like a natural fit. The only hitch is it'd be a trade so Kenny wouldn't be able to give him a 4 year deal to make it a 35+ contract with a NTC. -

The Red Wings site actually lists him at 6'2" and 218. Even if he's 6'1", I know guys that height who are 210 and don't look it. And a fair amount of that isn't even muscle. So for a dude that's in shape, I think it's believable. Some guys are just surprisingly solid. EDIT: Especially when you consider that hockey players can carry a lot of muscle weight in their legs and butt. -

I didn't realize that many people really hated Pierre. I think of him as kind of a goofball more than anything else, but the guy knows hockey. -

I was going to complain that Weiss is starting on left wing and isn't being put in a position to succeed, but you convinced me. I'l wait and see what he does when Datsyuk is back and the roster adjusts accordingly. -

Gord Miller @GMillerTSN 37m 37 minutes ago The model franchise: of the 20 players playing for the Red Wings tonight, 16 are Detroit drafts. Two others were undrafted free agents. -
Agreed. If you do it every game or after every win, it becomes more of an obligation than something actually meaningful.

On defense: Jonathan Ericsson-Niklas Kronwall Kyle Quincey-Danny DeKeyser Xavier Ouellet-Jakub Kindl Brian Lashoff (scratched). Brendan Smith (hand infection, IR, not skating) http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/11/stephen_weiss_jakub_kindl_back.html#incart_river -
And Quincey off waivers in 2008.

To be fair, Dats had 3 goals in 2 assists in 5 games. Z had a goal and an assist in the 2 games he played and he was coming off a long injury. Mule had 0 goals and 2 assists and was a -2 in 5 games. The whole team was pretty craptacular but I agree you expect more from those top 3 guys. Dats and Z did pretty well considering. Mule, not so much. Especially given his lackluster stretches during the regular season are accepted because we're waiting for playoff beast mode.

Plus he didn't have his stick to spear him the nuts with.

Video of the incident. WTF is Lucic doing there? Engaging but keeping his gloves on? Then throwing his glove at him afterwards? What a clown.

slava voynov suspended after domestic violence arrest

If you don't like a thread, DON'T POST IN IT. 1) By posting you're only keeping a thread you don't like more active. If few people respond, the thread quickly gets bumped down the page by more active threads and the problem takes care of itself. 2) By posting about whether something is threadworthy or not, you derail the conversation and reduce any chance the thread had at actually becoming a meaningful conversation. It becomes self-fulfilling. "I think this thread is stupid so I made a post saying as much. Now we're talking about how stupid the thread is. After multiple posts about how stupid this thread is, the thread indeed has become stupid." I've cleaned up the thread. Please don't drive it into the ditch again.

Dang. I was hoping he'd a pull a Niedermayer and join the Wings late in the season if they needed him.
-
Wow. That's harsher than anything I've ever said about him. Though it also doesn't bode well for the Wings ever being able to trade him if a pro scout is saying something that mean.

slava voynov suspended after domestic violence arrest
haroldsnepsts replied to jimmyemeryhunter's topic in General
Obviously domestic violence is a serious issue, but not knowing the details of the case I can't really speak to that. On the hockey side of things, even though the Kings have lost a player due to suspension, they don't get cap relief from it. It's a weird CBA detail. Voynov is suspended with pay during the investigation, so his salary still counts against the cap. They've even played a d-man short because they didn't have room to bring someone up. -
I think a big part of why he hasn't been as bad is him not being paired with Lashoff as much, and he's getting a ton of offensive zone starts. Babcock was being careful in how he utilized him. Though I don't know what exactly Kindl did to muck that up and play his way off the roster again.
-
I don't think it's that he believes in Lashoff that much, just Kindl that little. It's just one of many times Kindl lost his spot on the roster. Babcock benching him during a game was a surprising move though. I don't live in Detroit anymore, but the media does seem pretty quiet about it. Like has anyone asked Babcock directly about Kindl?

Just throwing in a link because I didn't see one in the thread yet. http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/2014/11/andrej_nestrasil_on_waivers.html

I guess. I think we've sufficiently beaten this to death for a player I don't care about, but.. For me I think the distinction was that he was foolish, but naive and trusting of his parents. I'm a lot more sympathetic to that than to someone who blew it all on houses, cars, drugs, etc.
-
Coddling him? I don't know the guy. It's not like by me expressing sympathy on an internet forum he's somehow not going to learn his lesson and lose millions more. I just don't hate him for his mistake (Though honestly as a player I've never really liked him. I thought he was overhyped since his days at U of M). I'm just saying my response is "that sucks the dude got ripped of by his parents" rather than "what an idiot! He gets what he deserves!" Naive or not, that's a pretty crappy thing to have your parents do that to you.
-
Mark Zuckerberg is hardly a typical example of a 25 year old, so that analogy means nothing. Actually, Jack Johnson isn't that different from a child star given how athletes are often treated when they excel at a young age. I'm just saying I can understand not knowing who to trust, so you trust your mom to figure it out for you. I don't feel the need to call someone an idiot for that. Naive maybe. I just don't understand the angry reaction people have to a dude who got ripped off by his parents.
-
Easily duped. By his parents. His parents bought the house because they had power of attorney. And the SEC hasn't exactly done a great job of protecting the US economy, let alone one guy. I do agree that firing his agent and not replacing him was a giant mistake. His parents, teammates, friends all should've been pointing that out to him. He sounds naive. I guess I just don't judge a 25 year old kid in that situation harshly for trusting his parents. It'd be a different story if he blew it all himself on houses, cars, etc.
