Nice goal by Homer. I like how the defenseman tried to knock him into Brodeur, then immediately started complaining when the puck went in. This goal redeems some of Holmstrom's crappy play earlier in the game.
-
To get back in position to make another save? Jiri Fischer drafted 1st round, 25th pick. Jonathan Ericsson 9th round, 291st pick, last player picked in the draft. Was he really expected to become the next Fischer?
-
And Draper scored on Brodeur.
-
Making the save. then it went off Ericsson right to Niedermayer for the slam dunk. He gave up the rebound, but it was also terrible coverage by the Wings around the net once again.
-
I wouldn't say brutal, but mostly invisible.
-
Hard work and going to the net. Sometimes the game just isn't that complicated.
-
I swear some linesman just have preconceived opinions on guys and whether they think they're jumping the gun. There's some games where it looks like Z gets kicked out every single time.
-
I forget how involved Brodeur is at handling the puck. Lidstrom needs to pull a Mike O'Connel and act like he's dumping the puck in the corner, but rip it on net to keep Marty honest.

Yes. Even thinking this team is anything like the Dead Things just shows how good we've had it. In 86 they won 17 games and lost 57, in a division so weak it was called the Snore-is division instead of Norris. They were entertaining to watch because of guys like Stevie, Probert, and Kocur. And every win was exciting because they'd been bad for so long, it was a glimmer of hope. This team is nowhere near the Dead Things. http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/display...gs.php?tmi=5492 Take a gander at their stats from the late 60s to the late 80s.

4-1 Edmonton is pathetic. Not that the Wings have played well so far, but Jersey is a good team.

Babcock blasts team as Wings help Oilers to victory
haroldsnepsts replied to DMAC 25's topic in General
3 STANLEY CUP FINALS IN 6 SEASONS! That's not great? Yes he had a lot of talent to work with on the Wings. Remember Dave Lewis? There are plenty of coaches who've had a lot of talent on their team but couldn't quite get them team there (someone already mentioned Therien). That's not to say Babcock doesn't get at least a part of the blame for the Wings play, just like he gets credit for their success. But to call the guy overrated?? The Wings win the Cup and make it game 7 the next year, and you're already turning on Babcock. What a joke. He wasn't outcoached in the Finals. The Wings were injured and ran out of gas against a younger, healthier, hungrier, equally talented team. -

I hope you guys are being sarcastic. Its so hard to tell with all the stupid things said in this forum. Just in case, in his 4 seasons of coaching the Red Wings, the Wings have been at or near the top of the league in the regular season, they have lost in the 1st round, made it to the conference finals, won the Stanley Cup, and lost in game 7 of the Cup finals. He also took the Ducks all the way to the Cup finals his first year in the NHL. So to recap, in 6 years of NHL coaching, he's missed the playoffs once, lost in round one once, made it to the conference finals once, made it to the Cup finals three times and won it once. To say it again, he's coached 6 full seasons. 3 of those seasons he's gotten the team to the Stanley Cup finals. Overrated? -
Ericsson was injured after. He got absolutely schooled on that one, but other than that mistake I'd say he had a good game. He's looking calmer in his own zone with the puck, made nice outlet passes, even jumped into the offense a little without taking himself out of the play defensively, and he's finally starting to speed up his slapshot so he can get it through guys and on net. Howard didn't have a lot of help, but the third goal was brutal. Yes it was a deflection off Datsyuk, but I think it was out by the faceoff circle and was moving slow after that. If he gets his pad down on the ice, the puck stops. The Wings looked like the Bad News Bears out there at times. Passes were rarely on the tape. Guys missing good scoring chances. Holmstrom ended up carrying the puck into the zone a bunch of times (how often have you seen that??) because so many of the other forwards looked out of sync and flustered by Edmonton standing them up.

Maltby has been playing noticeably bigger when May and Abby are his linemates.
-
The Wings can't afford to get rid of anybody now. They need warm bodies. But I wouldn't not shed a tear to see either of these two go when the Wings are healthy. Hopefully Kindl will earn a spot over these two very soon.
-
Actually it seems like most people are saying it didn't look like he meant to hurt the guy, but he needs a wake up call. That's hardly calling for his head.
-
Agreed. I can understand being disappointed or disagreeing, but the "only make me more angry" is a stupid thing to say. As I alluded to in another thread, I pretty much have a double standard when it comes to Ovie. He whines, he's taken a few dives, and done some other immature things in his hockey career (I don't really care about his personal life), but I let them go because he's just so much fun to watch and has such a passion for the game. But it's getting harder and harder with each stupid thing he does.
-
So I guess you prefer to just troll instead of discussing hockey.
-
Aww, how cute! someone's feeling his oats after getting past the opening round of the playoffs for the first time in 10 years! You know, some fans of other teams actually come here and talk hockey. They give an outsiders opinion and share their knowledge of their own players. It's pretty cool. Then there's other guys who just lurk until their team actually has a chance at beating the Wings, then they crawl out from under a rock and start talking s***. So which are you going to be sparky?
-
It wouldn't be unprecedented with Ovie. When he plowed into Dustin Brown (who had nothing to do with the play), he fell down grabbing his ear like someone had bitten it off. Honestly on paper the guy is a borderline dirty player, he whines after practically any penalty called against him, and he's taken a few dives. But I somehow can let almost all of that slide because he's such an amazing player to watch and has such passion for the game.
-
Exactly. I really do like Ovechkin as a player, but if you switch the name on the back of the jersey for practically anyone else, it'd be hard not to call them a dirty player with all these borderlines hits in a relatively short amount of time.
-
What a stupid play. And how did he not realize he had just smacked his own goalie? If he didn't feel the impact, shouldn't he have at least wondered why Vokoun was acting like he'd been shot in the face?
-
It's getting harder and harder for me to like Ovechkin. This is just another in a growing string of questionable plays he's made.
-
The NHL gets one right. Now if only they'd done this for the very similar Richards hit.

You have mentioned Zetterberg in nearly every single post you've made in this thread, including the last one. I'm not the one making it a Datsyuk vs. Zetterberg argument. If you've made any point in this thread, it's been how Dats is treated vs. Zetterberg. Don't worry sparky, Dats will likely be fine. You might want to cover that chip on your shoulder.
