I thought it had nothing to do with Zetterberg? I'm guessing you're a young kid who's a huge Datsyuk fan. He's slumping right now, but is a super talented player. Expectations are high, as they should be. I'm sure he'll pull out of it.
-
This thread has nothing to do with Zetterberg??
-
He seems to get the weird Manny Legace effect because he's so soft spoken or something, people treat him like he's a delicate flower. All the success is purely because of him, anything negative is because of the players he's with. It's a little ridiculous. I'm sure Datsyuk himself would say he should be doing better. Star players carry their teams when needed. Dats is a star player.
-
oh. So this is really about Datysuk vs. Zetterberg to you. They're both great Red Wings players. Get over it.
-
So we shouldn't criticize Datsyuk because Bertuzzi can't skate fast enough? You're bent out of shape because people are criticizing your boy for underperforming, which he is. Coming off a second consecutive 97 point season, he had 9 points in 16 playoff games, and now 6 goals and 13 assists in 23 games. It's not a bold statement to say that's less than expected. That's not to say he's the only one or that he can't turn it around and hopefully will soon, but the reality is this has been a slow start for Dats.
-
It's not dismissive, I'm just trying to figure out your reasoning. It sounds like you're saying that Datsyuk success in the NHL is tied in part to the skating speed of his wingers. Yes?
-
So just so I'm clear on you're reasoning, an all-star player like Datsyuk needs a rookie 4th liner to help him score?
-
This. He needs to step it up, as does Zettterberg and Lidstrom. But the reality is, Datsyuk's play has been more noticeably down. If he is one of the best in the league, which I think he is, then he should be held to that standard like everybody else. The last two seasons when he scored 97 points, did you attribute that success to his wingers? When he's good, it's all him, but when he's not it's his wingers fault? You can't have it both ways. Don't get your knickers in a twist just because some people are criticizing your favorite player.
-
Actually it is. Babcock uses Zetterberg fairly regularly to match up with the other team's star player.
-
The Blues player made a nice backcheck and hit Helm's stick at the end. I think it's just that he is getting used to the speed of the NHL game. How little time you have to get shots off before someone gets their stick there. right now it either seems to make him rush and panic, or he waits too long and gets it knocked away. Hopefully the timing will come.
-
Wings finally get a bounce their way.
-
I think a lot of the Wings are squeezing the stick a little too hard these days.
-
double
-
No, not Gretzky, though this season he's been one of the few Wings who can actually finish.
-
This, I agree with. yes, the Wings are injured and not nearly as talented as last year. But if our top guys are as great as we say they are, these are the times when great players carry their teams.
-
It's where I think the loss of Lilja hurts us. Ericsson can help in that regard too hopefully, in time. Lids can shut guys down, but you need big bodies out there to move guys. Minus Stuart and ericsson, our current D is pretty small.

This I think is the key regarding all the Wings players. they had 40 SOG last night, but how many of those were actually quality scoring chances? Not many. Datsyuk seems to have regressed in his shooting mentality. Last night he had an opportunity to shoot as he was skating down the middle (where the Wings spent very little time last night), instead he makes a backhand pass off to the boards and Ericsson ends up taking a much lower percentage shot from a bad angle. Unlike the Wings, Calgary does a great job of clearing the front of the net. They make that real estate hard to play in, and it showed. It seemed like half of those shots on goal by the Wings were from the point.
-
Yeah! nice low percentage, wide angle shot for the 40th SOG!
-
NM. Wrong thread.
-
Detroit Red Wings: padding stats of goalies across the NHL. Kipper's been good tonight, but I feel ike not too many of the 36 shots were quality scoring chances. It's like the Lewis-era Wings.
-
Agreed. That was a good shot, but looked like from a pretty steep angle. That's one you need your goalie to save.
-
well that's a backbreaker.
-
Dats needs to keep that puck and take the shot. Instead he dishes it off for a bad angle low percentage shot by Ericsson.
-
Agreed. Ericsson is going to make some mistakes and have growing pains. Because he's been in the playoffs and is older, it's easy to forget this is basically his rookie season. The Kings Doughty is a great young defenseman. Unbelievably talented, and he got absolutely schooled sometimes during his rookie season. Some things they're gonna learn the hard way.
-
Nah. I'll just hope you eventually get banned for your stupid s***. Your hatred of Osgood is apparently overshadowing anything you might have learned by watching those 5-7 non wings games. I can only assume those non-Wings games aren't actually hockey.
