You said he turtled. He didn't. He traded punches with a much bigger guy until he got poked in the eye. If you're gonna talk s***. Expect to be called on it.

Wtf are you talking about? cleary's not a fighter, but the guy is pretty much the definition of grit. Are you talking about this fight? because that's not turtling.

Exactly! Maybe that's the key to the Wings success. Get a bunch of european players who don't have a lot of family around as a distraction from hockey.

Wow. Williams just undressed that defenseman. Edit: and it was Jackman!

Maybe playing in Sweden is actually a disadvantage cuz half our team has relatives and family they're probably running around seeing this whole trip.

Will You Be Surprised if the Wings dont make the Playoffs?

Is the topic really whether or not we think this guy will be surprised if the Wings don't make the playoffs? *cough* delete thread *cough*

Exactly. They'll never win a cup with Ozzy in net. Ever.

I don't know if Flip bulked up, or if he's just playing bigger, but he's starting to look more like Zetterberg out there, not afraid to take the puck into traffic.

It's gonna be a long season for you if you can't handle a couple bad games.

ouch. Lebda sucked on those two goals, but that was a brutal way to go into the boards.

Was that Lebda again getting caught out of position? Another bad goal by Howard. EDIT: Yup. Just saw on the replay. Lebda and Howard make a brutal one two punch on those last two goals.

Lebda gets beat along the boards and Howard lets in a softie.

If I had to guess, I'd say attention to detail. I think they were incredibly focused and hungry in 08, and doing all the little things right on most nights. Harder to do when you're coming off a long Cup winning season.

is Ericsson going to be better than Kronwall?

Easy to say after he just scored. Honestly I think they're just different players. Kronwall lays the big hits, is good on the power play, and has great offensive sense. He's an offensive Dman who's also good defensively. Right now Ericsson is more of a stay at home guy (who will occasionally jump into the rush) but will hopefully continue to use his size around his own net. He has the potential to be like Fischer. But both these guys are still developing. Ericsson only has 50 NHL games under his belt. And even though Kronwall has been in the league a while, due to his injuries early on he's really only played roughly three full seasons.

I'm with you on all but the last one. Jimmy made a couple nice saves, but at a certain point with that much traffic around the net he needs help clearing the crease.

    dangerous hit there by Abdelkader.

I can agree with that. I think Ozzy has looked a little slower the last couple seasons. I have to wonder if that's been part of reinventing his game. He had to become a more positionally sound guy and make himself bigger because he couldn't rely on reflexes as much. Overall great period from the Wings, just frustrating they come out with a one goal lead. And though he didn't get an assist, that second goal came about when Ericsson made a nice play to cause a turnover and set up Bertuzzi.

Think maybe that's a tad premature?

    [GDT] 10/3 - Red Wings, 3 @ Blues, 5 (Stockholm)

Yeah. Though Lids misses the net a lot of times on purpose. They just weren't able to do anything with it down low. The blues had four guys collapsed to help out around the crease.

wings dominate almost entire first period. scoreboard 2-1.
