Las Vegas rumored to get an expansion team

What's funny is he still makes the claim that he was there on other business. It's like he can't help himself from lying. -
Las Vegas rumored to get an expansion team
haroldsnepsts replied to Bannedforlife's topic in General
Remember when the league was denying they were interested in starting a franchise in Vegas? yeah, about that... http://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/627628 Just for reference (and entertainment), here's the very same Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly's statement on Oct 24th about a potential franchise in Vegas. -
When used as you did to quietly disagree, it is a nice feature. Unfortunately people started abusing it by searching back through members post histories to neg hundreds of posts and rack up a major negative number. A handful of people did the same thing for liking posts, which is almost equally lame, but I guess less insulting.

Or maybe Dennis Wideman is available? -

A lot of what Datsyuk does you just can't teach. They definitely should be working on it though. It's hard to tell Babcock's true feelings in interviews because it's often more about whatever is really irking him after a loss, or how he feels about the reporter's question. But if he truly is that dismissive about the shootout in his actual coaching, then he definitely needs to get over it and focus more on it because it is costing his team points. Yes they should've won it in OT but they didn't, and had another chance at the extra point. Ultimately I don't know how much you can do with so little offensive talent in that regard, but there's really nowhere to go but up. I was hoping some of these younger guys would have crazy shootout skills because they grew up with it. -

Sounds like you're getting your wish. Ansar Khan @AnsarKhanMLive 8m 8 minutes ago Wings working on shootouts in practice. They're 5-12 in shootouts since start of 2013-14 season. -

Agreed. Without Datsyuk the best choices seem like Tatar, Nyquist, then it's anyones guess. With the game on the line I'd want Z out there because he's so clutch in general, but his conversion rate in the shootout isn't great either. For those saying Franzen, they rarely call on Mule for the shootout. I don't know if it's because he doesn't want to do it or just isn't good at it but he's rarely picked. -

Don't even joke about it. Holland might hear you. He was pretty good in the shootouts though. Is there a rule about someone from the pressbox coming down to participate in the shootout? -
If you're going to use that much sarcasm to ridicule the point someone was making, you should at least spell Fedorov correctly.

Agreed. Some guys can only gain so much weight and be effective. Wayne Simmonds is another good example. The guys is 6'2", strong as a bull but weighs a whopping 183 lbs.

Kopitar is awesome. As I've said, he plays a lot like Zetterberg, only if Zetterberg were Franzen's size. That goal of his last night was even better than Carter's. He whistled it by Miller's ear.

Jack Johnson and a 1st round pick in the 2013 draft (used on Marko Dano). For a team that struggled to score, counterintuitively getting rid of their offensive defenseman made LA a better team. Not just for bringing in Carter. Somehow subtracting Jack Johnson helped the blueline. That's not a knock on him. He's a good defenseman but made jaw droppingly bad decisions at times for the Kings. Seems like he's gotten it together more in Columbus. And the Kings got a heck of sniper in Carter, who is also a great two-way player.

Khan tweeted how all the players were tapping their sticks on the ice (I'm assuming making fun of him) when he finally stepped onto the ice.

That Tatar has been friggin useless this year. Last season was apparently a fluke. He needs to actually go hard to the net and shoot the friggin puck. He's a bum!

I've hardly been a fan of Kindl but in spite of his weaknesses he used to be one of the best at getting his shot through from the point. For whatever reason he seemed to lose that ability last season, but maybe he's discovering it again? As great as it is he's playing better, in the back of my mind I can't help thinking how his trade value is also increasing.
-
Kindl and Smith? Holy crap. Ok, who else do we want to get going? Man that Franzen sucks. He's lazy. Turns the puck over constantly. Can't wait to get off the ice. They should trade him for a bag of pucks.

What is up with all the soft tissue injuries on this team. Do they need to bring in a new training staff?
-
I think many advanced stats can be extremely misleading as well. They have to be looked at together and with the eyeball test. Plus-minus I think is really only useful then you're comparing players on one team. If one has an extremely high or extremely low +/-, there's something going on there. But it still doesn't say much beyond that.
-
A sample size of 1,564 helps to smooth out some of the variables. But he did win his last Norris with a -2, so yet another great example of the stat's extremely limited usefulness at indicating anything about a player.

Leafs' Ashton suspended 20 games for violating PED policy
haroldsnepsts replied to Smite's topic in General
Agreed. They have to make the punishment severe to try and make it just not worth the risk. It's like with bench clearing brawls. An automatic ten game suspension and fines for the coach and team are extremely effective in eliminating it. -
Which is a great example of how flawed that stat can be. Kindl makes a bad line change that results in a goal, but Lashoff and Smith get hit with the minus.

Most likely he was taking cienbuterol for its performance enhancing properties and this is his cover story (I guess the contaminated food supplement excuse had been used too many times), but if he legitimately has asthma then he should've consulted with the NHL and his doctor to make sure he didn't ingest something on the banned substance list. I'm guessing somewhere along the way players have the NHL substance abuse policy explained to them. Even when you're at the low end of the player salary scale, that's a ton of cash to put at risk from accidentally taking the wrong inhaler. Since he said he got the inhaler from another player I'm wondering if he'll end up taking someone down with him, unless that player has an exemption. -
I really think they just don't want to be first, but once someone does it they'll follow, knowing that fans will complain and vow to not watch hockey anymore like they do after every lockout. Then after a while they come crawling back and the owners make even more money than before. Bettman is an expert at these kind of calculations. If another sport pulls the trigger, the NHL is following.
