I think the league should handle it, not the courts, but what a psycho move. The fight was in Roy's end of the rink. It's not like he went down there to even out the numbers. He skates the the entire length of the rink to beat down a goalie that couldn't have looked less interested in fighting if he rolled on his back and peed on himself.

If Lillypads were healthy and in the lineup, I almost wonder if Babcock would move Ericsson up to second pairing to spread out the big defenseman a little, and avoid a Stuart-Kronwall pairing which can be problematic. All in all though, it'd be great just to have him back, especially if it puts Lebda out of the lineup.

Don't forget he washed out of LA too, when they were desperate for a starting goalie. The bar was set incredibly low and he couldn't win the job. And Vancouver had a few pretty good teams the years Cloutier was there. This isn't based on a limited sample. He's just never shown himself to be a standout goaltender at the NHL level. The only thing Cloutier has to offer that the Wings need is decent fighting ability. And that's sad for both parties.

I'm thinking this is it too. He must have a favor or connection. The article points out he called the Wings and asked for a tryout. They didn't reach out to him. The Red Wings don't have a lot to lose here. They give a former NHLer a second chance, and will likely bolster the goalscoring confidence of everyone who shoots on him.

Wow, surprised it took this long for some people here to turn on him. He's played what, 15 playoff NHL playoff games and 27 regular season games in his life? He's gone from the AHL to playing 20+ minutes a night of the most intense level of hockey there is, in one of the hardest position to learn, and he only converted to the defense something like 8 years ago. For him not to be getting lit up every shift is a win (see: Mike Green). God this place is chock full of stupid sometimes.

He seriously grew an inch?? Now I hope he just puts on about 15 pounds of muscle. 6'5" 220+ and mobile makes for a pretty scary defenseman.

He's definitely no Probert. My choice is more hoping that the current holder of that number (and roster spot) will realize it's time to move on.

Part of me still wonders if that was Bowman taking a page from Herb Brooks and going after the captain, showing the rest of the team that no one is untouchable and you damn well better listen and buy into the system or else. But among the fans, I do remember an awful lot of talk about how Yzerman had lots of talent, but just didn't have what it took to be a champion.

Agreed. And it's not like people are saying trade Datsyuk (though some are just about saying that for homer and hossa). But there's no denying that Datsyuk is not putting points on the board. Yes he's doing a lot of good things, but as a first liner, his job is to score points. It's not crippling the Wings, as they've made it this far. But is sure would be nice if from here forward, he got back on track scoring. Is that really such an outrageous thing to think of a star player?

Again, so you clearly have some inferiority thing with Datsyuk right now, which is why you take the potshot at Z? It's not a question of Zetterberg versus Datsyuk. I know it should be obvious, but they're on the same team. But the Wings Cup chances get a lot better if their regular season MVP gets going.

If you're gonna split up a line to try and get Dats going, that's probably the way to do it. It's just a shame because Flip's line has been doing so well too. But I definitely wouldn't want the Z/Mule/Cleary line touched.
