    Pronger

Pronger didn't go for Yzerman's knee. He went to hit Yzerman, Stevie got mostly out of the way and Pronger ended up tearing his ACL. But over the years the story has somehow become that Pronger was going after Yzerman's knee.

    Pronger

I'd have to see a better replay. they showed a brief clip on NHL network, and it honestly looked like Parise wasn't looking as time ran out and ran into Pronger, then Pronger took the opportunity to follow through with the elbow. But it was literally like a two-second clip. It wouldn't surprise me if the collision wasn't as accidental as it looked. Here's the clip. It's still hard to tell if it was incidental contact that Pronger took advantage of, or if he hopped of the bench and lined himself up with Parise.

    Bruins fans are dumb...

I do have to say, that is one of the fairly common idiotic reasons used by people over on hfboards to discredit any player on the Wings. If there's a thread about any one Wings player, there will be several responses saying how they're overrated and it's really just because of either another wings player, or the team being good in general. Zetterberg is overrated. He's only good because he's on the ice with Lidstrom (I've seriously seen that argument). But then Lidstrom is overrated because he's only a product of a good team. No one there has managed to explain how individually none of the Wings can be anything special while at the same time being overrated because the whole team is so damn good.

    Bruins fans are dumb...

that's only a few posts by an idiot or two in that thread. Most of it isn't even about Lidstrom. If you were to cherry pick some posts made by Wings fans here, it would make us all look just as stupid.

    Shanahan joins Devils

Does anyone have any actual verified information that says Shanahan didn't like Babcock and the effort he required him to put out? Because everything I read it was more that he just felt it was time to move on. He was right. It was time to turn the Wings over to new leadership and let this team forge a new identity. It never ceases to amaze me how bitter some people are any time a player dares not to re-sign with the Wings.

1/8 GDT: Stars, 1 at Red Wings, 6

Honestly it looked like your boy Cleary was about to step up for Kronwall, but Ott got pulled out of the way by a linesman.

1/8 GDT: Stars, 1 at Red Wings, 6

I'd be curious to see that thread again, because my memory wasn't that most people here called it a clean hit. It looked like Laperriere's butt end popped Lidstrom in the jaw at the end of that hit. I generally don't like Ott, but I can't fault him much for wanting to drop the gloves. The hit was clean, but may not have looked much like it at first. What I can fault him for is the crosscheck to Kronwall's back that looked like it was going to snap his head off.

I think the Wings' must've made a new years resolution to play 60 minutes of hockey. Not to say there won't be hiccups along the way, but this has been the first stretch of games where I think they looked as solid as they did last season. Puck control, few if any defensive lapses, not allowing opponents free reign in front of the net.

I feel like they sometimes give goalies a lot of leeway when it comes to tripping guys. As long as the Wings continue to own Turco though, all is right in the world.

if I were one of the conspiracy theorists who think the refs give the Wings breaks, this would be a game I'd point to.

the puck was moving right through them when he hit the guy (it went past him right to Homer), so it was a battle for the puck.

I'm assuming these are the Stars broadcasters on the Yahoo feed? they're actually pretty good.

that was an awfully juicy rebound to give up off what looked like a fairly routine shot. Nice finish by Malts.

Very lucky. He had one hand off the stick and basically pushed him down.

Lidstrom & Datsyuk Make All Star Team

I know you were kidding, but honestly I think Pronger deserves to be there more than Niedermayer. Aside from having a couple more goals and a slightly better +/-, I think Pronger is a more integral part of the Anaheim defense than Niedermayer.

How does Giguere end up going over say, Bryzgalov? and starting at that.

    Crosby "fight"

and we're not even talking from his younger days when he had the Bruise Brothers stirring things up. 10/30/03 against Nashville Predators. 1st period - Yzerman gets 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike plus a 10 misconduct 3rd period - Yzerman another 2 minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct, plus two 10 minute misconducts, and is ejected. 34 minutes in penalties. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=231030027 Steve Yzerman complained? I thought only whiny babies like Cindy Crosby ever complained?!?!

    George Laraque Blog

Another relevant aspect, especially for those who like to point out how Downey didn't play a playoff game last season, trying to prove he wasn't important. I also thought it was interesting how part of the code is not to fight a guy at the end of a shift. Makes sense, but it's something I never thought of.

Corey "the fairy" Perry suspended four games

Especially because he had to know he wouldn't be "getting it" from Perry. Perry is like a bully's little ***** sidekick. Talking tough because he's got guys like Parros and Pronger to protect him. (Not that Pronger drops the gloves much, but he is a guy you'd be more concerned about getting it from)

    Crosby "fight"

ahh, so it's merely a journalistic responsibility to give a more "fair and balanced" view? forget I said anything, resume yet another Crosby-hate circle jerk. You'd think we played this guy every week for the attention he gets here. I'm just sick of hearing about the guy, good and bad.
  23. haroldsnepsts

    Crosby "fight"

Of course it's Crosby hate. Read the comments in this thread. Then do a search in this forum for Crosby and look at all the other comments. It's not like people are posting threads here about great plays he makes. It's only the stupid s*** he does. Which a lot of players do night in and out in the league. Even though Crosby does have some *****-like qualities about him, it's getting old. Especially because people's biggest complaint about him seems to be all the attention he gets over other players around the league.
  24. haroldsnepsts

    Crosby "fight"

Because people cry about all the attention Crosby gets, yet they fixate on every single thing he does. If that were someone other than Crosby, there's no thread here about it. I saw a fight in a Kings game a few days ago that was even funnier. The guys each took turns falling down and neither really got a punch off, one of them even did a somersault of sorts. Sad fights like this happen fairly often in the NHL but of course it was Sidney so it's the usual suspects looking for any reason to ***** about him, while simultaneously crying about the attention he gets. Or the single leg takedown is pretty funny.

No Red Wings on All Star starting line up

Breaking the voting record probably has more to do with how internet savvy people are now compared to when Lemieux set the record. But he still has 15 goals and 35 assists for 50 points in 39 games. That's third in the league behind Malkin and AO, and is all-star worthy. Either way, the ASG is basically a popularity contest anyway. When I was younger I guess I used to get excited about it. It was fun watching Probert in the All-star game, and wanting Yzerman to score. But now it's basically meaningless to me. Edit: typos.
