    World Junior Championship

Man, what a collapse by USA. Real class by the Canadian kids celebrating their goal all the way down the US bench. I can't say I feel too bad about him getting a high stick to the visor.

    Thank you laryngitis

I definitely have seen games called by Doc. I guess it didn't bother me. I can sure hear him saying "DRIVE!" Assuming he's talking about a goalie knocking away the puck with his blocker, I don't see what the big deal is. Waffleboard is oldschool for blockers, so if you're knocking the puck away with that, why not? It's like calling a jersey a sweater, even though they haven't been for decades.

Waffleboarded? I've not heard Doc use that. I'm guessing he's talking about a goalie's blocker?

What's so bad about Doc? Are there any commentators people here approve of other than our own homer announcers??

    Chicago's 9 game streak

I see what you're saying, but good teams win the games they're supposed to. On that list the Wings have lost to Vancouver twice, Colorado twice, and had to go to the SO to beat Phoenix. Their schedule wasn't the hardest, but putting together a streak like that is still pretty damn impressive.

Curtis Joseph gets 450th career win

meh. he only got those wins because of all the great teams he played behind like St. Louis.. ok, well maybe not them. But Toront... well, hmm... I guess Phoenix. ok, not really. kidding. Congrats to Cujo. I've always thought he was a very good goaltender, and definitely got the shaft here in Detroit.

    Canucks acquire LaBarbera

Hey, at least they got rid of Cloutier. The Kings have a decent young team that is well coached under Murray. The trade deadline and off season moves are really going to determine if they take the step forward they're set up for, or if it's bungled once again and they continue with mediocrity. I do think though that just a halfway decent, consistent goaltender would add some much needed stability to that team. That's about the heart of it. They were getting pretty solid goaltending from Ersberg before he went down with a groin injury. Now they've got this kid Quick who's been playing well, though he has little NHL experience. Basically LaBarbera did nothing to show he deserved a starting spot, or even a backup one and got played out of the position. Maybe him getting out of LA will be the change he needs to get it together. who knows.

You might want to make that your signature so you don't have to post it in every single game day thread.

    chelios and winter classic

That's a great point. If that happened with a Detroit player they'd be burning him in effigy at games. Think of how people act towards Fedorov, who hardly did the equivalent of what Cheli did. Chelios was born and raised in Chicago, played on the team for 9 of his prime years, won a Norris trophy with them, was captain of the team for four years, including when he was traded.

    Tootoo does it agian

Nope. And I'm one of the few who would like to have Pronger on the Wings. Tootoo doesn't do enough good things on the ice to justify being the gutless ****** he is most of the time. There's better 4th liners out there. If a team's looking for a guy to provide energy, hit, drop the gloves a bit and stir things up while being a defensive liability, they could probably find a guy in the minors for half the cost of Tootoo. Our 4th line needs help for sure but Tootoo isn't the answer. And the 10 goals doesn't mean much when you factor in how many are scored against while he's on the ice.

    Tootoo does it agian

Towards the end of the clip you get a good look at Tootoo throwing a straight punch to Clowe's jaw before Clowe even has a chance to turn and face him.

    Tootoo does it agian

+1 Avery's a ****** and I think he's bad for the league, but the guy has 10 times the hockey skills of Tootoo. Tootoo has never cracked 20 points and is a career -25. That's a lot of pucks in his net considering he's only on the ice 10 minutes a game.

    Cherepanov took steroids as well...

You will do stupid things in your life. And when you do, I hope the people around you show more compassion than you do.

The Official 2008 Detroit Lions Thread

Agreed. The Lions need to spend their picks trying to make something resembling a defensive and offensive line. I was hoping the 0-16 would bring a top to bottom housecleaning, but once again Ford displays his incompetence by promoting two guys who are partly responsible for this awful season. Now that Wirtz is dead, Ford has to be in the running for worst owner in the major pro sports.

    Cherepanov took steroids as well...

I guess I just don't think people deserve to die for most mistakes. It must be nice to have never been young and foolish and never made bad choices.

Isn't that your exact purpose? Here's the clip.

    Any Word on Lidstrom?

Actually Quincey had already been called up and was in the lineup.

    Sammy not practicing

Sammy's been playing great, he's a bargain, he's in the last year on his contract. and I'm sure Holland is sick of running up against the cap all season. It makes a fair amount of sense. still, I'd be surprised if it happened.
  19. haroldsnepsts

    Any Word on Lidstrom?

It's probably best you forget that name, at least while Lebda is still in the lineup.

    Cherepanov took steroids as well...

It was stupid and unethical, but you think he deserved to die for it?? He was a young kid who was trying to compete at the elite level of a professional sport and made some very bad decisions (if he was in fact taking steroids). To say he deserved to die for that is a bit harsh, don't ya think?
  21. haroldsnepsts

    Cherepanov took steroids as well...

    1) Steroids are synthetic hormones, and not just in your book. But they're still steroids, so of course you can say it was steroids, because that's what it was. So simple it's almost nonsensical. 2) I think you're confusing steroids with doping drugs like EPO. EPO is a synthetic drug that increases red blood cell production, with the theory it carries more oxygen to the muscles and aids in recovery, which is why it's popular in cycling. Steroids are a synthetic version of testosterone, and trick the body into creating more proteins which helps create muscle mass. As far as I know they don't increase red blood cell production.

What do you think could jumpstart the Wings?

I like the idea, but as people are talking about in the other thread, the Wings can't bring those guys up. They don't have the cap space without putting some players on waivers and sending them down.
  23. haroldsnepsts

    Any Word on Lidstrom?

I'm pretty sure Cleary, Chelios and I think Rafalski were injured during that same time last season though. I can't remember for sure who all was injured, but I remember it was multiple players, not just Lids.

12/27 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Avalanche 4, (SO)

Anyone watching the online feed? They just had an interview with an Avs fan holding a sign making fun of the Red Wings. Except he spelled octopus wrong.

12/27 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Avalanche 4, (SO)

No kidding. Can we lock the doors? Who knows what's going to happen with this game, but there's gonna be ups and downs. People miss a lot by throwing tantrums and turning the game off because the Wings aren't dominating. They'll miss the greatest comebacks that way.
