Drake had an impact in the postseason, but if you remember, he was pretty awful the first half of the season. Maybe in the playoffs he was a motivating factor, but he sure wasn't one in them playing well during most of the regular season.

That would be true if the Wings were playing half assed and doing nothing but losing. They've been winning, even though it's ugly. Because of the Cup win, the bar is set so high for this team it's ridiculous. They don't just have to win, they have to dominate. Obviously that's what we want to happen before the playoffs, but to throw a tantrum and stop watching in the first period is still pretty fair weather in my book.

Well one good thing about this first period is it looks like it's making all the little kiddies stop watching and go to bed.

Exactly. Franzen is a surprisingly good finisher and has moves one on one, but hasn't shown a lot of offensive creativity when it comes to setting up his linemates. And Sammy is well.. Sammy. I'm not sure Cleary is a huge help. Defensively responsible, goes hard to the net, but that's not really what the line is lacking. I thought I'd never say it, but Hudler on the second line makes sense, as long as he's not too big of a liability defensively. He's definitely got the playmaking skills. Hudler's got the best saucer pass on the team. and it's not like they'd be losing a lot of physical presence. You wouldn't think Mule would be the softest guy on that line, but most games he is.

don't confuse your own desires to get dominated with those of the Red Wings.

I feel like his whole line is trying to do too much individually. Too many one on one moves and not enough passing plays.

Yeah, I used to defend him when he was first in the lineup, but from what I've seen he's shown little to no improvement. The rare times he does try to hit people, he's usually the one who ends up on his ass.
